Hi - we have decided we like the 3.8 AWD with Sig package. Was close to getting Lexus ES-350 but test drive sold us both on the Genesis.
After scouring this great web site I've read about two major issues - the sunroof rattle and the sun roof seal issues.
FWIW, our 2015 test car we drove had 150 miles and was rock solid and drove like a dream. I didn't see the tell tale signs of crooked/separated seals that some have report seeing on dealer lots but with only 150 miles maybe it's too soon? I did read that one fellow in Canada had dealer add felt or something which fixed the rattles. I have not seen any definitive fix on the seals though, other than glue and new seals etc which don't seem permanent.
IMO, the engineering required to have two large pieces of glass fit tightly on the roof of a car that twists and flexes seems daunting to me, but maybe the Genny's design is sound. After reading the posts though I'm not sure. I know the warranty will cover it but I really don't want any issues and have to spend time at the dlrs to fix.
They are offering us good concessions to buy the car but I'd like some piece of mind as to the real world impact of these issues before I fo forward. Since they don't have the color we want they're looking for one nearby. Is it unreasonable to ask for a recent build (within a few months)? The one we test drove was Nov 2014 which seems a bit old. Am hoping a more recent build may have some fixes for these sunroof issues. I'm sure the 2016's are already in production but for a problem like this I'm sure they'd make a running change to correct it.
Any thoughts? Is this major enough to stay away from an otherwise well engineered and good looking car?
Thanks for your feedback!
