need tires soon!

Amazing!

I left for work at 4:30 this morning to 2 inches of snow and a sheet of ice. DISCLAIMER: To us REDNECKS down here in the south...we dont have a clue as to what we are doing! HA!

HOWEVER, if you have amazing tires...you can do almost anything but harnessing nearly 400 HP is difficult at times...even with the ESC System.

My drive was practically flawless...just a few slips...due to the high HP and driver error.

These DWS tires are perfectly made for areas like this. They have just enough cuts in them to be somewhat of a winter tire...but not enough to be classified as such. The only time I lost traction was because of my own driver error. Like I said..."we aint used to this!"

After about a 45 min. drive, I arrived at the gate here at work. I got over the big frame scraping speed bump, gave it gas and did a 180...RIGHT AT THE GATE! HOLY CRAP! I didnt think it was ice so I got on it a little bit. It looked dry but I guess, stupid me, didnt make the right decision.

Ill be honest, it was fun though! HA!

Anywho, GREAT tires and they balance extremely well! Let me get about 10K on them and Ill do a full review. Im sure if any tread separation or balancing issues were to happen it would have done it by then.

UPDATE: This weekend I put nearly 800 miles on the tires. We visited my mom and dad who were at the beach for the month.

They were flawless! No bouncing, no pulling from side to side...and QUIET! Since we have a 9 month old, my parents rode with us everywhere due to the car seat. We went to Hazel's on Friday night for all you can eat crab legs and the first pea out of the dish was my dads comment on the ride of the new tires. He was very impressed...even more so, because they were Continentals. We have dealt with them in the past on Truck/SUV tires and they sucked....bad. I guess they got it right in the car dept.!

They are really bouncy the first mile or so (may be a rubber compound issue, after all, they are a 60K Mile tire), but after that...they are gravy!

;)

Well I'm pulling the plug:

I do not have much tire tread left on my tires so I will be purchasing new tires in April when I take the car out of storage.

The 3 tires I was considering were the following:

Continental ContiSportContact 3 SSR

Hankook Ventus RS-3

Sumitumo HTR ZIII

I decided on the Sumitumo HTR ZIII's. Looking forward to rid the Dunlops once and for all. Problem with the Hankook's is they don't make the size needed for the Genesis. I'd have to downgrade to an allseason tire, which is not what I am looking for.

The Continentals are a little more money then I think they are worth, but I'm sure are a great tire.

The Sumitumo is super sticky, comfortable, and quiet. Out the door including road force balancing, mounting, and tax is $713.

I've had a set of Sumitumo HTR ZII's (forth picture) years ago and they were the best tire I'd ever purchased and put my Michelin Pilot's to shame. I'rll report back how the HTR ZIII's are working out when I've put some miles on them.

In Europe most luxury sedans come with V-rated tires; in the US low cost H-rated. We always use winter tires, and real summer tires.

The 235/50-18 has very limited availability in summer tires...only high performance models that would be too stiff or touring models that would be wimpy.

So one of the all season would seem to be in order. At TireRack the Conti DWS has the best consumer reviews and the Pirelli Nero has the best results on their back-to-back tests.

Will need tires REAL soon! Anyone have an opinion about Bridgestone Turanzo Serenity with 45K warranty? 4 tires balanced etc. $1168 with tax.
I was at a Firestone dealer getting a nail out so of course he recommended his brand. I need help pretty quickly. Thanks. Tom

I'd go with the Continental ExtremeContact DWS for Performance All-Season tires in a 245/45/18. $620 at your door and then at most $150 to install.

Visit Discount Tire Direct on the net.

Disclaimer...the opinions expressed herein are only opinions. The quality of ride and performance may vary depending on driving habits, road and weather conditions...but these tires ROCK in my opinion!!! :D

I have gone to my local Discount Tire store and special ordered tires that they did not normally stock (for installation at the store). That would seem to me to be less of hassle than having them delivered to your home and then have to take them somewhere to get installed. But not sure if these particular tires can be ordered at one of their stores.

You can have Tirerack, deliver the tires to one of their approved installers in your area, so you don't have to handle them. But you're right, I'd rather just go in somewhere and buy them. What tires did you settle on Mark?

Good choice either them or the Goodyear Comfort Tread.

Had these tires on my prior vehicle 2005 1/2 Volkswagen Jetta TDI.....still going strong at 57,000 miles, great ride and handling on that car in all weather

I bought the these tires early in Feb and absolutely love them. I've traveled 2000 miles on them and they far superior and more quiet than the Dunlaps. I had them put on my Genesis for $1049 including tax and alignment here in Fort Lauderdale. You should be able to do better on price. Tell them! A fellow blogger has also put these on in the past week at the same place, same price because of my recomendation!

"These" meaning what? There are several different tires mentioned in this thread.

So far every Firestone dealer has only recommended the Bridgestone Turanza Sernity 235/50R18 97W BW 6.5-8.5 45k as I have stated in past posts on this blog! They are high performance tires specifically formulated for premium sedans such as BMW, MB, Infiniti, and Audi.

Since Firestone is a whole owned subsidiary of Bridgestone, it shouldn't surprise anyone that they would recommend the Serenity. I have heard good thing about the Serenity, but if falls into the Grand Touring category, which is good if you want a softer ride and more tire life, bad if you want more road feel and performance. The Serenity comes at a considerable premium. However, I have had very good experiences with Bridgestone tires.

Quick note, I decided to get a quote from Discount Tire today for the Sumitumo HTR ZIII's. They do not stock them, but can special order them and out the door (installed etc.) $754

The man that works out of his garage seems to always be cheaper. Helps to have a small overhead:)

Thank the Lord that I got my new tires installed yesterday. As I mentioned in the other threads I bought Sumitomo HTR ZIII's.

So far I have noticed a much improved ride in sound dampening and they are smooth as silk on the road. Awesome:) Way better then the OEM Dunlops.

I'm excited to put a few hundred miles on the tires to see how they will perform when really pushing them.

Do you live in a southern climate or do you have winter tires?

In response to the near-unanimous rejection of the OEM Dunlops I purchased a set of Bridgestone Blizzak LM-60's to install next winter. Winters here in Maryland are unpredictable, but we often have enough snow - for at least several days most winters - to make getting around difficult.

I remain undecided (for next spring, when it comes time to put summer tires back on) whether to put the Dunlops back on (I haven't found them objectionable, but I also have nothing to compare them with). Since winter performance will not be an issue, what replacement tires would you all suggest if I decide to go that route?

I would just run the Dunlops till they wear out, then look for something better. In Maryland, you could probably get away with an all season tire, like the Continental ExtremeContact DWS (which performs as well in snow and ice as your Blizzak.) You don't have the kind of snow and ice we do up North. I've already put the Dunlops back on for the spring/summer/fall seasons. In Michigan, the winter tires go in in mid December and come back off in late March/early April, depending on the weather. I keep the winter tires on their own rims. The rims pay for themselves after a few seasons of changes, lower the chance of tire and TPMS damage, and make it more convenient to change tires (can do it myself in 15 minutes.)

P.S. The weather can be quite unpredictable, in Michigan...especially in the early spring. Michigan got one of it's record snow falls in May. If I bought pure summer tires I'd have to run the winter tires longer. Instead, I prefer to run all seasons as "three season" tires knowing I'm not getting the performance I would get out of a true high performance summer tire. It is a trade-off for convenience. One that I'm willing to make because we don't drive the Genesis as hard as we might with a pure sports car.
