  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis G70
Hello,
My name is Chronodave and I am the happy owner of a 2021 Genesis G70 3.3TT.
While my salesman and I were chatting he mentioned to me that I can't use the jump points under the hood because they don't carry enough current to start the engine. When I asked, he said the only way to jump start this car is to remove the spare tire and jump the car by hooking up directly to the battery.
I learned many years ago that the safest way to jump start a car is by NOT hooking up directly to the battery.
Has anyone had any experiences with jump starting their cars, and how has it worked?
Thanks for any help.

G70 or GV70?
I would go by what your owner's manual says. Car salesmen usually don't know nearly as much as they think they do.

G70. I fixed it.

Page 6-5 of your manual clearly says to use the under hood jump terminals.
Note that the jump terminals are much closer to your starter than the battery in the trunk is.

The metal spring-like thing the manual refers to for charging that is in the fuse box in the engine compartment is wired to the power of the car so it is the positive line. The silvery metal post on the same side just under the edge of the hood when closed is the negative ground post. Read and follow the proper sequence for attaching clamps and cables.

Edit: your sales man is an in idiot and dangerous and should seek other work.

Edit #2: Granted cracked battery case issues and leaking hydrogen gases are far, far fewer than in decades past. Still, there is one proper and safe way to do something so basic, and to advise, in his professional position, to do it otherwise is unsupportable.

A LOT more engineering goes into your owners manual(s) than into your salesman.
Follow the manual.
btw - I have used the under the hood points several times (had to look in the manual to find our where...). It works.
Press on, heathfully and prayerfully.

Seriously I wouldn't trust a car salesman regarding anything remotely technical about a car. What he told you doesn't even make sense as PressOn points out. Follow what the manual states.

almost every car ive seen with a battery in the trunk has tabs up front to jump it and ive never had an issue jumping from those points. the salesman has no idea what hes talking about.
