  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi,
We just purchased a genesis V6 with tech package on Friday. There is a blinking Red LED light on a circular little structure near the drivers side wiper when we parked the car in the garage. A similar round thing is on the passenger side but is not blinking, any clue what that is. couldn't find in the manual.
Thanks,
RBS1972

It's a theft-deterrent signal...to wannabe thieves! Unsure about the passenger side...haven't looked close enough to see it.

Thanks. It was one of our guesses but were not sure.

but ... it blinks regardless of the status of the built in alarm/locking system.

gimmick? or what?

The one on the passeger side is the light sensor. It dims the instrument cluster, Nav screen when it is dark outside. Also, it turns on the headlight if the switch is set to "auto". Don't put anything on top of it. It may interfere with the proper working of some operations.

i am not sure that it is. when i took delivery of my car i found a piece of plastic that was designed to NOT allow light to pass through to a very small sensor located in the corner of the passenger side of the windshield. the plastic was on the windshield. i am guessing that during shipping it is their preference to have the car think that it is dark out (keeping lights on while moving the cars around in dark areas). This sensor looks a lot like most of the light sensors you find on many items.

Check out page: 4-73 of the owners manual. Wish they would have specified drivers side or passengers side.

Yeah, I've noticed that as well. I'd agree...gimmick. But, if it works... Apparently a lot of cars do it...my brother's BMW M3 he owned did it, and the 535 he traded for earlier this year has it as well. Maybe other makes/models, too.
