Hi All,

Picked up a new Hyundai Genesis Monday, white with cashmere interior. 52 total miles on it and I LOVE IT! I have been getting a lot of compliments, especially since I had the car re-badged. The car rides so freaking smooth...

For the engine break in, I read in on another thread that there really isn't a specific recommendation. I'm going to just take it easy for the first thousand miles, what do you guys think?

Also, getting windows tinted, thinking of going 35% on sides and 20% on back. Anyone have any recommendations?

The last thing I'm still thinking about is adding the wing to the front of the car, still undecided.

Thanks for reading!!!!!

No special break-in period is needed. By
following a few simple precautions for the
first 600 miles (1,000 km) you may add to
the performance, economy and life of
your vehicle.
• Do not race the engine.
• While driving, keep your engine speed
(rpm, or revolutions per minute)
between 2,000 rpm and 4,000 rpm.
• Do not maintain a single speed for long
periods of time, either fast or slow.
Varying engine speed is needed to
properly break-in the engine.
• Avoid hard stops, except in emergencies,
to allow the brakes to seat properly.
• Don't let the engine idle longer than 3
minutes at one time.
• Don't tow a trailer during the first 1,200
miles (2,000 km) of operation.

WOW! Thanks all!

This is awesome! I'm still playing with all the options. I think the next step is to look at some rimms. :-)

BTW - I'm also contemplating on not putting the wing in the front.

I really appreciate the responses! I also promise to do a better job searching the forum for answers.

The wings on the front is a personal preference, I actually think it looks better naked, but that's just me. I'm not very into changing the factory look of cars, but I'm old fashioned. Rims are also a matter of taste. Whenever people tell me they are thinking about putting on aftermarket rims, I always tell them the same thing. Make sure you keep the OE's cause selling a used car with aftermarket rims is harder because not everyone is going to have the same tastes as you.

Welcome FLAMINGUISTA!!
You're gonna' get a lot of different points of view, some great ideas and
a lot of genuine concern for you and your car from the guys in this forum!
It's great! I, too, am from the naked hood club, but I did rebadge the rest of the car. I have the hood ornament still on my desk should I choose to apply it. I suggest getting it, (you can get the front & rear as a set on eBay for under $30 shipped). I Scotch taped it to the hood and walked away & came back over & over to get an idea what it would look like. I chose to not apply it. But do remember, if you do apply it, it is easily removed without a trace. White with cashmier is really classy! I've got the Titanium / black. Click on my photo above & it will lead you to some more Pix of mine. Hoping to see some of yours soon! Welcome, again, to the group. Mike

Depends a lot on where you live (sun intensity), how often you keep your car parked outdoors in direct sunshine, etc. 35% in the back is probably sufficient if you get a high-tech ceramic/sputtered film that blocks a lot more heat than a dyed or charcoal variety. I personally think having the same VLT% all the way around (except the windshield which is illegal to tint) looks the best.

Formula One Pinnacle 35% is a ceramic film that is excellent, and tends to be carried by shops with above average installers. You can get a list of Formula One installers in your area at their website. I have Formula One Pinnacle 50% (as do a few others on this forum) and am very happy with it.

easier said than done - it doesn't go above 1750-1800 rpm @ 75 mph :)

Welcome to the sight flame, hope you enjoy your car as much as the rest of us love our car. I got my front and rear badges put on the car and i love it. I've had my car for a little over a year and it still excites me when i see it in the parking lot,lol I will advise you to get ready for some major attention in the car, especially from drivers riding in your blind spot to see your rear badge trying to figure out what kind of car you're driving. It's flattering but it can get annoying and dangerous at times. Other times i get attention is at the gas station, parking lots and stop lights. Have fun!!!!

You are definitely right about that. But one way to mitigate that problem is to occasionally rev your engine just a bit every minute or so while driving. Obviously you need to be a safe distance behind the car in front of you to do this, but even the slightest acceleration will make a difference. This also solves the other common break-in problem, that you should not run the engine at constant rpm during break-in period.

Welcome to the forum! :welcome:
Congrats on your new car. White looks really nice, although I haven't seen one in person as of yet.
You'll find some useful information in the owners manual.
I haven't gone through everything myself, but read the basic stuffs.

As far as tinting goes, I did the same percentage(35 front, 20 rear) for my Vette, and I liked it.
I can't go any darker than 35 in the front, because the night time visibility drops quite a bit.
I'm thinking of doing 35 or 40 all around, but still procrastinating.

I did all the rebading except for the airbag and the front hood.
Like many others, still not decided if I should put on the front or not.

Again, welcome and enjoy your new ride! :)

Welcome to the Club! Great color combo!

Good Morning folks!

As for the car break in, unless I jump on the car its impossible to get it to 2,000 RPM. It drives with nice pick up well below that!

So far I have been in heaven, the car is absolutely fun to drive and comfortable. People at work keep coming up to me asking me what it is, they are like "that is a beautiful car". I always say "yeah, I know, its a Hyundai!"

I went ahead and re-badged the rest of the car and left the front plain. Tomorrow I'm going to get the tinting done and then wait a little while before I move on with the rimms. :-)

I saw a post about the magnaflow (sp). Anyone here also install that? I like that the car is quiet but the video that was up sounded NICE!

Anyone done any mods to the interior thus far? This car doesn't need much at all.....but always nice to hear what people are playing with.

Going to take it for my first freeway drive this weekend, still only have 158 miles on it and need to put a few more.

Oh, did I mention the 17 speaker sound system is AWESOME!

p.s. I'm trying to import my phones info into the car by using blue tooth to push it through and have had no luck.

p.s.s. thanks for all the feedback!

@Ilovemygenesis: Yesterday I was driving home and this couple was walking their kid from the grocery store. I just happened to look over and the husband did one of those sneaky look backs at my car. LOL! I was driving away and looked in the rear view and his wife was pointing. You can tell they were like "WTF (what the face) is that?!?!?" I live in northern California and there isn't a single white genesis on the road.

Like you said, there aren't much you need to do interior-wise.
I did, however, remove the door panels to fix some rattling noise.
It's not there when driving, but it's pretty annoying when you play DVD-Audio discs w/ heavy bass.
Most of 'em are gone now. Still have a little bit coming from the driver's door, and mostly from the rear deck.

DIS system doesn't support phonebook transfer. You have to manually put in phone informations.

Enjoy! :)

Dan

Thanks Dan!

I'll be uploading pictures this weekend!

BTW - anyone play DVDs on the car yet? :-)

No problem ;)
I haven't played a movie, but have played a DVD w/ audio tracks and some still images. I think I'll try out some movie discs tonight just for fun. :)
Looking forward to those pics!

Hi All,

In deciding for the tint %, I suggest that you check first the current tint law in every state available at http://www.TintBuyer.com. They also give information about window tints like its types, quotations and help locate the best professional tint installer near your area. I also consulted with them recently for my tinting needs and I'm really impressed with the results. I hope this helps

White Cashmire with the V8, man that's a sweet looking ride, almost as sweet as the black (yes, I'm a bit baised because mine is black LOL). I did the rear wing and getting ready for the rims. I left the hood naked, but I've seen a few with the hood wing and I'm giving it more thought. The Genesis is one sweet and smooth ride!

Your fun at getting attention with this car is just beginning! I also have the white with cashmere interior, and will never tire of it. Last night when the valet brought my Genesis around it absolutely sparkled in the lights, and it definitely caught the attention of others. The rebadging was done by myself, including the hood which I like. Just today I was paused at a road worksite and a worker walked up to my car. I'm used to this and smiled at the inquirer while rolling down my window. "Is that a Bentley?" :p
