In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hey all,

I took a good 7 hours out of my day today and had some fun with the Genesis.

First up is the grille. I decided I wanted to have the grille look like the chrome was floating in mid-air. I bought some gloss black vinyl, enlisted the help of my lovely girlfriend (who is a BEAST with a heat gun!) and attacked the grille for a few hours.

Here is the grille before:

Here is the grille after today:

Here are some in-progress pics:

I also tinted the foglights yellow to get ANY usable light out of them while driving around. This is the stock bulb with just some yellow tint:

And now the light color:

I welcome people opinions. I realize that this is not for everyone, but I love the look. The fogs are more for function than forum.

Also, where the chrome strip is on the front bumper (below both headlights) my GF gave me the idea to put some pin-stripe right above the chrome...looks excellent!

I realize I could have painted the grille, but I wanted anything I did to be completely reversible to sell the car if need be.

Opinions welcomed!

Thanks for taking the time to post your write-up and pics; I know that takes some time.

Personally, I like it. The grille looks really sharp; I think you achieved your goal of it appearing to be "floating".

I like the fogs too, but seem to be in the minority as well. I converted my fog and DRLs to yellow bulbs; thread here: http://www.genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?t=9971

In the end, it doesn't matter what others like; its what YOU like! :)

Looks good.....you must have some patience for details like the grill. I left that to my painter, which painted mine black (body color) since I felt the silver grill didn't go well with black. Interesting that you have the only color Genesis with a paint matching grill and you decided to change it up, which isn't really a bad thing.

^^ That is kinda why. It kinda looked like every other genesis with the grille being body color and I wanted a little more aggressive of a look. I had a dream and followed through! lol.

The grille took me right around 6 hours to do. Patience was wearing thin by the end heh

It looks good, but I'm not a fan of the yellow fog light modification. Seems a bit too customized and noticable. I like it when modifications still look like it came from the manufacturer and not obvious lol but that's just me!

No problem! I have done write-ups that have taken over an hour. I hand made my last headlights, if you care to see, here is the link: http://www.nissanclub.com/forums/f-...-projector-retrofit-56k-dont-even-bother.html

I think I like the fogs. Thanks for the kind words! The fogs will come in handy here in a few months. I too think the grille floats and really like it from a distance as well as up close :)

Love the projector conversion on the Nissan too! Looks like it took a lot of work, time, patience and talent. I would LOVE to do this on my Dakota R/T, but would not even know where to begin.

Props on a great job! :)

I bought the same yellow film off of ebay but wasnt happy with the result. Took them off the car, removed plastic chrome trim, cleaned with windex then isopropyl alcohol. Could not get it to go on smooth without any bubbles or dirt underneath. Tried multiple times and water application technique. Did you use a buffing compound on the lens prior to applying? Side note did you break the lower tab on the fog light when removing the chrome trim? Could not remove it without this little tab breaking.

This is what I did.

I never removed any chrome trim...didn't need to. Why do you need to?

As to the light film, I just hit it with rubbing alcohol. The light was plenty clean to begin with. Sprayed down the film, applied, cut the bottom of the film and squeegeed out the water to the bottom. Heat and stretch and let dry on the light. Then cut around the light and tuck the film behind the bumper :)

looks good, I like the gril :)

I did yellow fogs on my Genesis Coupe which was black - i think the yellow fogs on silver looks off. Just me though, if you like it, more power to you.

Not a fan of the fogs at all but the grill looks really nice. Well done!
