If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey everyone! Tomorrow I will hopefully be a new owner of a CPO 2015 Genesis Ultimate with the 5.0 V8 in Caspian Black. It has around 22,000 miles on it, one-owner lease vehicle. The 100k mile/10 year warranty and the price seem too good to pass up. I’m currently in a 2017 Colorado ZR2, but I’d like to lessen my loan term and get back into a car. The ZR2 is awesome but it was my first truck from a line of performance-oriented cars and definitely wasn’t being utilized here in Metro Detroit. I’ve never had a V8 before so I’m quite excited about that, and I haven’t driven something RWD in about 7-8 years. This will be my first full size luxury vehicle!

Hopefully this will do fine in the winter with a good set of snow tires, an easy foot on the throttle, and the roads being plowed and salted regularly. I’m relatively new to the Metro Detroit area (moved here in May), but if it’s anything like where I used to live in NY (constant road plowing/salting), I should be fine.

My first few attempts at finding a Genesis forum that wasn’t dead proved futile, but I’m glad I found this one. I wish it worked with Tapatalk though. Anyway, thanks for keeping up such a great community, and I look forward to being an active member!

Welcome from North Carolina. Been a Genesis owner since April my wife and I love it. It's a 2013 3.8 with tech pkg. Its was a CPO one owner lease car also and had 36k at purchase and now has 46K with no issues what so ever. I almost went with a V8 car but this 3.8 was in such good shape I couldn't let it pass by. The 333hp V6 is no slouch and is plenty fast IMO and on my last road a few weeks ago I got 31mpg. Good luck with the purchase.

Welcome. Just FYI, even though you have a RWD and not AWD, your car still does have a "snow" driving mode. If you just quickly tap through the drive modes ( normal, eco & sport ) you won't see "snow". However, if you hold the mode button down 2 or 3 seconds, you will get "snow". Not exactly sure what it does in that mode, but it's there to experiment with.

Look forward to some pics when you take delivery.

Welcome from West Tennessee. I haven't been on here long as I just purchased my Genesis on Aug 11th. So far I must admit I love it. I also had been driving trucks forever and decided I wanted a smoother ride and a little better gas mileage (I drive 32 miles one way to work). You will discover a lot of really good info on this site and everyone seems to be very helpful and patient to explain things to us newbies. Just don't make the mistake I made. I ordered the cargo mat for the trunk, and when it arrived I laid it out on the driveway for a few hours to get it flat and when I opened the trunk to install it I noticed that there was already one in there. Oh well, live and learn. At least I noticed the wing badge on the trunk lid had been already changed out by the initial leaser (on the carfax report it stated emblem replaced by dealer). Before I found this site, I thought there was a really bad QC problem for a emblem to fall off the car.

Thank you! That’s awesome gas mileage. Glad to hear you haven’t had any problems with it since your purchase.

Thank you! I would never have found that tip regarding the snow mode unless it was by accident haha. I’ll definitely experiment with that when the time comes and will upload pictures when I get her!

Thank you! That’s funny that you didn’t find out you had a mat until the last minute! This site does seem to have a wealth of information and mostly helpful members, which I’m grateful for.

I actually already ordered the wing emblem in anticipation for mine! I noticed another Genesis that I was looking at had that same “emblem replaced” line on the CarFax. If the reason for all of the winged emblems on these Genesises (Genesi? lol) was because they fall off, you’re absolutely right; that would be a pretty disastrous and embarrassing QC issue!

Welcome! I found the snow mode by accident one time. I kept wondering why my car felt like it was dragging a pickup truck behind it.

Thanks! That’s funny, I would’ve definitely done the same had I not known about it thanks to you guys. What exactly did you notice the snow mode does? Limit throttle input?

I’m currently on my way to a dealer three hours away to hopefully see this deal through! Wish me luck fellas.

Welcome aboard! Thank you for signing up! I'm glad you found us. You've got a heck of a luxury car there! You did pick it up, right? Ultimate V8. Nice... I have a 2015 Signature V6 - still love it. :p :)

Yes, severely limited. I thought something was wrong with my car.

Thank you very much! I was planning to do so but unfortunately they weren’t willing to offer me a reasonable value for my trade-in. They offered me a whopping $10,500 under the trade-in value of my 2017 Colorado ZR2. It’s obviously still in excellent condition, and I’ve got the transferable extended warranty (not to mention exterior paint, interior, and windshield protection). A few thousand less I can understand, but $10,000?! I stood up, said thank you for your time, and went right out the door. What a waste of a three hour drive on a Sunday! At least I did get to drive it! Love the feel of the vehicle.

Haha I’m glad I know what to look out for!

I’ll be going for a round 2 tomorrow and checking out another one-owner Caspian Black Genesis 5.0 but this time it’s only got 20k on the odo, it isn’t certified, and it isn’t the ultimate. But it does already have the Genesis badge on the rear ;) Any thoughts on if the Ultimate is truly worth it? These cars, especially in 5.0 trim, are hard to find. I’d mostly be interested in the adaptive suspension but if the standard suspension rides just like the Ultimate suspension does in normal mode I’d be a happy camper for sure. Such a smooth ride!

Also, anyone have any experience regarding the extended warranty? Would I be able to purchase this next vehicle from a Honda dealership and go to my local Hyundai dealer and purchase an extended warranty? Or is that strictly limited to vehicles they sell themselves?

Well honestly whether or not it's worth it to you is a subjective question. Personally I love the HUD and want it on every car I get henceforth. Whenever I drive a car without one I immediately miss it. But with the Ultimate you cannot get Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, but at this juncture, I would still choose the HUD and its information (including whether someone is in my blind-spot) over AA or CP. Maybe that will change when Waze and Spotify are available on AA and CP, but as of now the biggest thing I miss from CarPlay is voice texting/reading of texts (functionality that is at a minimal level somewhat available with Siri Hands-free).

I also find the control knob easier to use while driving than the touch screen. I never have to use my touchscreen because it never gets used; but when I've tried I've found it virtually impossible to quickly select/confirm something on the touch screen when the car is in motion. Which brings up another point. Lane-keep-assist is awesome for long trips (while at the same time sucking in town). No, you can't drive extended periods with your hands off the steering wheel, but you can let go of the wheel for a few seconds to reach over and grab that box of tissues or to pick up that wallet or phone that fell.

True, it is very subjective. I enjoyed the HUD but I didn’t experience it long enough to make it a dealbreaker. I think I’m more concerned with how the normal suspension is setup compared to the adaptive dampers, along with the lack of extended warranty. I should be good until 2020 with the factory warranty, if I’m not mistaken so perhaps I shouldn’t worry. The CarFax shows the instrument cluster was replaced under warranty, I’m hoping that’s a rare occurrence with these cars haha.

The CarPlay update is nice; I’ve certainly gotten used to having that feature. I still don’t understand what “compatibility” issues they have with the Ultimate but that issue seems to have been talked about quite a bit on here already. Hopefully the salesman will be willing to make an actual deal that isn’t laughable tomorrow! I’m ready to be in a Genesis after my short 10 mi test drive today.

The factory warranty does not cover all the electronics and stuff that this car has past a certain mileage point. For that reason, and due to how important those electronics are to the enjoyment of the car, I consider the extended warranty a necessary item. On my wife's Acadia (which has had the AC evaporator replaced 3 times, 2 of them out of factory warranty), the extended warranty has paid for itself 2x over.

As far as AA/CP, I don't know the details of the nature of the problem. I do know that the computers and operating systems used in the Ultimate vs the other models is completely different. The Ultimate one is based on a discontinued linux distribution called Meego, while the other models use one based on Android. I suspect that this didn't help matters. In any case the 2018 Genesis G80 and G90 have corrected the problem, so there's that.

With regards to the adjustable suspension setup, I use that nearly every day, especially with lowering springs. On bumpy roads I always switch to a firm setup so the car doesn't porpoise as much. Well, not quite porpoising, but you definitely feel it drop at times.

Thanks for your input. I’ll drive the standard suspension and see how it does. I plan on lowering the car as well. Regarding AA/CP, makes sense! I had no idea they were different OS’s. Now it’s a bit more understandable yet still slightly irritating for Ultimate owners haha.

Regarding the extended warranty, do you know if that’s an option that can be purchased at my local Hyundai dealer post-sale from a different dealer? I haven’t found any other certified ones in my 200 mile search radius, besides higher mileage ones with multiple owners.

Hmm honestly I don't know a lot about buying an extended warranty on a used vehicle. There are people on here who have done so though, and maybe they can chime in. It might be helpful to search for or start a new thread with that very question so it doesn't get buried in this one.

I’m happy to inform that I’m the owner of a new (to me) 2015 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 in Caspian Black. Love the ride and tech goodies so far. I wish there was a way to upload pictures via the mobile website for this forum. I wasn’t able to find this group on the Tapatalk app.

Congrats!!

Yes, congrats! Hope you're as happy with yours as we've been with ours.

Congratulations! I'm glad to hear you picked it up. I'd love to see pictures as well but, unfortunately, we don't use TapaTalk. There were/are too many security issues when we used to use it and a lot of webmasters are turning away from it. I plan on getting our site setup with a responsive design so that it works the same on all devices. But that's going to take time.

Anyway, thank you for updating us on your new Genesis! That's a really impressive luxury sedan you have there... Enjoy it! And welcome to Genesis ownership...

Congrats!!

Thanks! I’m so happy with it so far. Can’t wait to keep adding on the miles in this one. She sure is a dream to drive.

Thank you so much! I appreciate the explanation, I was unaware of Tapatalk’s security issues. Kind of worrying but thankfully I never inputted any sensitive information into the app. To be completely honest, your website is well formatted on mobile at its current stage. I’d really only like a way to conveniently upload pictures, as I use my phone more often now than my desktop. Thanks for keeping up a great forum!

Here are some quick snaps of the new girl on my drive home and in the lot! If you look in the back, you can see the ex (red Colorado ZR2) getting upset that I’m trading her in haha.
