  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

New Official 1/4 Mile Thread

New Record!

Posting this here. 1/4 mile thread has gotten pinned to the G70 forum instead of being under the subsection for "Engine" which is great. Stays at the top and will make it easy for anyone to find or ask questions.

Special congratulations to @Cashby for another awesome personal accomplishment and one for our platforms!

Wow, pressure 4 TCU. What does that feel like??

Nice times. A better 60ft and your in the 10s!

To be honest? It feels somewhat disappointing. The shifts have a nice feel to them, but they're sluggish and take too long, I lose G's on every shift. I did a comparison of OEM TCU vs Pressure 4 60-130 and OEM was faster every single time. The Lozic TCU doesn't launch consistently, so I had to buy a harness.

I'd say it's perfect for daily driving, but if you want to set records this isn't the move.

Interesting. Have you reached out to Lozic? The shifts should be lighting fast considering how aggressive if a setting you chose.

I had much faster times in the bank after getting it tuned, all my posted times were on jb4, but was waiting for a track day to post everything, broke my phone and lost a lot of records. It’s a shame, the G80 was a monster.

Had downpipe, meth, lap3, custom intake, custom exhaust. Currently sitting in the driveway with a blown headgasket, blown valve cover gasket and a bad starter haha.

Blown headgasket was because I was pushing 23psi to 6500rpm at 23deg of timing, I was constantly going to circuit tracks, race meets, etc. I put it through hell. LAP3 recommended less boost, I refused to send it in to be turned down.

Got down to 11.8 in the quarter, parked it and now it’s taking a well deserved break. Have some race videos still where I put a bus on a tuned m3.

I’ll be reviving it sometime next year, planning to do Hybrids on it.

For anyone on here chasing times, one of things to work on is manual shifting. Our cars need to be shifted before 6K rpms to stay more efficiently in the powerband.

Better yet: If you can get an accurate dyno sheet, you can calculate on a spreadsheet the best shift RPM (then adjust for the lag from pulling the paddle until shift initiated).

Formulas from Auto Math Handbook

Ideal shift RPM: Where the torque coming out of the trans to the driveshaft will be equal before and after the shift.

RPM after shift: (Ratio shifting into / ratio shifting from) x RPM before shift

Driveshaft torque: Torque at flywheel x transmission ratio.

Attached is a sample sheet I developed, with the torque numbers lifted from the Burger Tuning JB4 page for a Map 3 tune (torque numbers at RPM are a best guess from eyeballing the high res dyno sheet).

Feel free to plug in your own torque figures and see where your best shift points would be.

So in your case..

If I'm understanding this correct, it's saying the shift points are as seen in the first set of numbers?

If so, that's not going to work for fast times.

1-2: 6100
2-3: 6100
3-4: 5700
4-5: 5400-5700
5-6: 5400-5800

What's proven is more like the following.

1-2: 4800
2-3: 5000
3-4: 5300
4-5: 5600

I like the idea of this and I know this is just a sample. That being said, I have to agree with @Slip_Angle, higher horsepower cars will not get better times shifting that late. From what I understand, the first 2 shifts are what make or break your run and they need to be around the numbers 4800 and 5000 respectively. There will definitely be some variance from car to car as different tunes, weather, tires, etc come into play.

I wonder if we can work the numbers backwards to find better shift points for all power levels across the board? 🤔

Took the car out beginning of February. Still dialing it in but good to get a new baseline. This run was using 100 octane race gas instead of cpi or wmi. 11.35 @ 122.45 mph
