  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just got my new 2016 Genesis sedan 3.8 base. Love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It has far more power than I need but just wanted to know what the difference is between the sedan and the coupe 3.8 engines. The sedan has 311 HP and the coupe has 348 HP. The sedan uses reg fuel and the coupe uses premium fuel. Is that the only difference?
Thanks,
PauM

Weight!

I don't believe that rated HP is "directly" affected by vehicle weight.

I know that when I use 50% premium and 50% regular on my Genesis V6 sedan, the engine feels more responsive, and gets about 1 MPG better fuel economy. So 100% premium fuel would make a difference, especially if the engine was tuned to take full advantage of premium.

In addition, I believe that the coupe has a different header/exhaust system that effects HP. The coupe engine may also be tuned for more HP and less torque, since it is lighter (this is where the vehicle weight indirectly can play a factor in how they tune the engine).

most likely ECU tuning. Many manufacturers scale back the performance capability of the cars by simply air/fuel tuning or mapping on the ECU.

Additionally what Mark_888 said regarding the exhaust system can make a noticeable difference.

Its a very common practice - tuners love it!
