If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hi everyone. I just recently joined this forum because of my growing interest of the Genesis. I didn't realized that this car has been released since 09 and just only came across it during the local auto show. I really like this car. Have read a lot of reviews and most are very positive.

My first reaction upon seeing one and sitting in one is "This isn't a Hyundai!!" I test drove the car and found it to be very nice for my type of driving habits. Of course, all the luxury and cool features on this car is a big plus. Hyundai has came a long way since the days of the Accent and I never would have even thought about getting one until now. My opinion has changed drastically about Hyundai. The only concern for me is the long term reliability of the car.

My question to all is I am on the fence either getting a used 3.8 V6 2011 w/ around 15K miles with Premium and Tech package (just about loaded w/ everything) or getting a new 2012 one. The pricing that was quoted for the 2011 from the dealer was for $31.5K + TTL. I haven't shopped for a 2012 yet as I'm trying to see if this is a good price or not. Please share your thoughts between getting a used 2011 w/ low miles or go with the 2012 model. I'm inclined to stay with the 3.8 version as this is more inline with my budget.

Thanks.

I always recommend to get a used, but DO NOT pay 31K for a used 3.6 with 15k miles. I JUST (2 weeks ago) bought a 2010 4.6 with 14,600 miles for 27,500 plus TTL. I'm not saying you should buy a 4.6, but the fact I payed 4K less for a 4.6 (albeit a tad older) should tell you that there are better deals out there. What major metro are you in?

You can get a 2012 V6 with premium and tech for 37,400-38,000 in the LA/OC area. Are you financing most of the deal? If so the .9% financing from Hyundai on a 2012 may make you think about a 2012. How long do you think you'll keep the car?

The 2012 V6 has about 40 more horsepower, better fuel economy, and a new, 8 speed auto transmission. The cars look very similar but the 2012 has a cool LED light bar that comes on with the headlights at night. I thought think the 2011s have that lighting but I hope to be corrected if I'm wrong. The 2012s have Michelin fuel saving tires that most say are superior to the Dunlap tires. I'm not sure if the 2011 has Dunlaps or Michelins.

If you plan to keep it for a long time I would get a 2012. I don't think 31K is a bad price for a 2011 but one may be able to get it for a little bit less.

I'm curious how the V8 resale value compares to the V6. The Genesis V8 is a great engine but are used car buyers paying for more for a V8? Anybody have any thoughts on this?

I shopped for quite a while in the Chicago Metro area and the V8 were typically 3-5k more than a loaded V6, 4-6 more than a base V6.

Stay in your budget. Remember its not just the cost of the car. Its maintenance, taxes, cost of gas etc. BTW my 2011 Genesis 4.6 is a great car and I have 48,000 miles on it.

I plan on keeping the new car as long as it last. I had my last car for at least 7 years. Will be planning to sell it myself. The .9% financing is rather attractive but I would like to keep the budget around $30-$33k so that is why I am looking into something pre-owned.

I really think if you're patient you can EASILY get a V6 loaded that will be a dew grand below your budget. I saw many fitting the car you want (2011, V6 Under 20K miles) for about 25-26K or less in the Chicago area. I'm not sure what the 'adjustment factor' is for the LA area but I can't imagine it'd be and more than a few grand...

I am driving my second Genesis. The first was an early model 2009 and I drove it for 3 years with virtually no problems. When the lease was up at 120k kms (75,000 miles) I went straight into a new 2012. Both cars are 3.8l V6 models and had/have the Premium & Tech packages. I am loving the 2012 even more than the 2009, mainly due to the smoother ride, noticably better acceleration and smooth 8-speed transmission. Not that the 2009 was a slouch by any means, but the 2012 is definitely faster smoother and has a nice growl from the engine when you put the pedal to the metal.

Don't be worried about reliability of the car as a whole. Some owners have reported problems with the Tech Package Audio/Nav/Communications system, but from what I have read here you either have issues almost from day one or you likely won't see them at all - not unlike any new electronics purchase. If you are going to keep the car for some time, I'd go for the 2012 and consider the extended warranty packages, but only if they cover the Audio/Nav. If not don't bother.

jump off the fence and get one. You won't regret it. If the used one is CPO, then there's less of a difference, but if it's not, make sure it's a real good deal or better than the price of 3rd party warranty for engine/drivetrain to 100K.

I've seen quite a few outside of my area that are priced pretty good. I saw a certified 2011 4.6 V8 for 32K w/ very low miles along with others. The problem is that these dealers are pretty far away from where I am. Any advise on getting these shipped? Has anyone gone this route for a good deal? Would be interested in knowing what the risks are even if it is CPO. What are the trade offs if any?

Would take up offers of local folks to check it out for me if it works out.

I am in the Los Angeles area so I kinda know how it is around here on the pricing of the Genesis. I looked in my area for a CPO 2009 4.6 Genesis and most were around 28k in pricing with around 40k miles . I actually bought my car online using autotrader from a Hyundai dealership and they shipped it to me as well as part of the price of the vehicle. It was CPO with 54k miles for $22,000. The car I got had more miles but I thought it was a better deal compare to my local Hyundai dealers. I know its different because your looking for a 2011 3.8 but just trying to compare because we are in the same area. Just look online with autotrader.com or cars.com and you might be able to find a better deal and get the dealership to ship it to you. Although note, the process took me about 2 weeks in discussing price, shipping and all that. Also the fact it took a few days to ship the car. If you want a better deal, you will have to buy somewhere else because when I looked, California had some of the highest prices for the Genesis.

Thanks Lixskull. That's what I have been seeing as well. I have seen some really decent pricing in other states so if your experience has been a pleasant one I will definitely look at that option.

My 2 cents.

Previous cars were, in order: BMW, Audi, Infiniti, BMW.

All great cars, but so far I can't say that I would have a reason to go back.

Every car has it's quirks, and in my opinion the only one I see is the Genesis stereo is not up to world class status.

I'm not sure which system you have, but the Tech package stereo is a lot better than the non-tech package stereo.

The Lexicon is at least "world class" IMHO

I don't the criticism posted above of the Lexicon 17 Speaker system is based solely on the quality of the sound (which is obviously outstanding when it works). But there are a quite a few usability issues, and outright defects that have occurred in alarming numbers, which overall makes it less than "world class."

You're the man Mark. Please disregard my opinion.

My guess is that your Genny doesn't have the Lexicon.

My base 3.8 stereo with 7 speakers (I think) sounds fine - similar to my MB with 12 speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound. I think the bigger space in the Genesis helps with the acoustics. From what I can tell (on line), the base stereo has the same 528w amp and same 6 primary speakers as the 14 & 17 speaker upgrade models, just fewer speakers, a different subwoffer and no surround sound. Correct me if I'm wrong.
