Hello all,
My name is Trent and I recently purchased a '15 3.8 sedan with 61k on the clock and am loving having a car again. Before buying this car my daily was an '08 F150 Limited and while having a truck is almost a necessity for me I missed having a car. My last cars were a couple Audi B6 A4's and a '93 Audi URS4 and I loved them all but they were almost as big of money pits as owning a boat. I was fairly active on Audizine (audi forum) back in the day and found it to be a great source for information as well as a place to chat with like minded Audi enthusiasts and I am hoping to find something similar here.
My first question is about the differences between front brakes, specifically the calipers between the 3.8 and the 5.0. I did some searching and didn't find what I was after. I know the 3.8 has 345mm front rotors and the 5.0 has 360mm front rotors. I also saw different part numbers for the calipers between the two looking at a parts fiche. I want to assume the caliper mount offset is bigger for the 5.0 allowing the use of the bigger rotor, but we all know at happens when one assumes. So to those who know, what is the difference that allows the bigger rotors on the 5.0? Now I know a 15mm difference in rotor size is not going to make a huge difference in braking power, but I am looking at this more from an aesthetic perspective. I plan on installing some 20" wheels when the current ones are due for new rubber. In the meantime I want to purchase a take off set of calipers to rebuild and cerakote (again aesthetics) as well as a set of slotted/dimpled rotors from Adams rotors (old Audizine connection) to do at the same time and since I am buying stuff I might as well go bigger for the same coin if it is possible.
And, since TTIWWP, here you go!
