In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Say hello to another new Genesis owner. Love my car. With that said...

After owning my 2009 4.6L Sedan for a few months, I decided I wanted to go for some aftermarket rims. I used tirerack.com to show me wheels that would 'fit', and after much study (including research of other wheel threads here) I ordered a set of 18x8" Advanti Denaro Wheels, offset +42, black with machined lip. They were shipped in, mounted, and then driven out into the parking lot... for about 10 seconds... before they drove it right back into the bay, and right back onto the lift. One (not both) of the front wheels was rubbing on the brake caliper (and scraping off the new paint that I had spent the weekend working on  ). I understand that this is a common problem with these Brembo?? calipers.

As it turned out, it worked for the best, because once the wheels were on the car, I instantly thought that I didn't like the look. (Also, when they put the originals back on, I thought to myself how really good they look, and why am I going to all this trouble/expense...)

But..... I can't get the idea out of my head. I am going for the black on black look, I like the concave style wheel, and also like the staggered look. But there are very few wheels that I think would look right and/or fit on this car. I am now steering towards two different choices. I'll start with the frontrunner.

Varrstoen ES 2.2.1 - Here is a quick photoshopped attempt at the look.

If I were to go this way, the wheel is available in 18 x 8.5" with offsets of either +35 or +45 (also 15 and 25). I can't get www.aspecwheels.net (the only American dealer I can find) to guarantee fittment (sp?) so I was wondering what any of you thought here.

The rimsntires.com calculator for 2009 Gennie Sedan says -

[ Offset: 35 to 45 mm. Tires up to 720x245mm. Rims up to 22x9.0" ]

Okay, but there is obviously flexibility there: For example, from other threads -- Ri0uxx has a rear tire stated as 10.5" + 23 offset. And Ruissimo says he has offsets of 33.5 and 16. Are setups like these two only workable with extras like spacers and modified fenders? I dont want to get into fender work, and I have read very mixed reviews on spacers.

For the back wheel, I wanted to go wider. They offer 18 x 9.5, and 18 x 10.5. I think 9.5 is probably plenty, but the offsets for that wheel are only available in +0, 12, 22 and 30. From my few days of learning about all this stuff, I assume I would be looking at the +30, but again, not sure. The rear brake caliper is much smaller so clearance wouldn't be as much of a problem, right?

Anyway, I did a fair amount of research to get this far. Could someone with a little more experience weigh in? Thanks.

Second Choice: Tenzo Concept-9 Black
Not available staggered in 18's. Only Available in 18x8 +25, 37 and 45 offsets.

(How do I get these pics to show original size?)

I personally liked the V8 wheels, but wanted a 19" wheel and fell in love with the R Spec wheels, which I purchased. Personally, I don't care for either of the wheels shown in your post, and the murdered out look is too much of a trend for myself.

The Genesis sedan does NOT have Brembo brakes, only the Coupe Track edition does.

You picked up on the question marks after the 'Brembo', thanks for clearing that particular point up. Aside from style, do you have any advice on the fit?

Offset has absolutely nothing to do with brake clearance. It depends SOLELY on the wheel design. There is no way anybody here can say if something fit's or not unless you're wanting to run something extreme or unless they have tried the exact wheel you want.

Granted I am still new to all of this, and Geometry was never my strong suit, but what I think you are saying is:

A +35 offset for one brand/style of wheel may clear my calipers. But a +35 offset on another totally different style of wheel will not. I get that.

But for the exact same wheel (Varrstoen 2.2.1) with different choices of offsets +15, 25, 35, 45, this definitely does have something to do with brake clearance. In the case of this particular wheel, a LOWER offset value would be better, because it would create a more drastic angle from the hub to the rim, right? In other words, the spoke would 'get out of the way faster' as it travelled from hub to rim.

So what you're saying is, if somebody out there hasn't tried my exact wheels on a 2009 4.6L, there is no way to determine what wheels will fit AND clear the calipers? I guess I was expecting the science to be there, and it just isn't. Oh well. So the only way to avoid risk is to purchase from some place with a 100% fitment guarantee??

For other guys (like the ones I mentioned in the OP for example) how did you decide on your unconventional setups? If you weren't able to find someone with your exact setup, how did you figure out what would work? Trial and error? With potential return shipping charges and 25% re-stocking fees, that seems like a pretty big gamble. There's gotta be a better way.
