  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey there,

A couple of hours into a long road trip, my mom's 2011 Cabernet Red Pearl sedan (non-nav, base audio) suffered an audio failure. According to her, the radio was playing MP3s from a USB stick when it suddenly cut to static. The radio played loud static over the sounds of whatever music was playing at the time, but the MP3s were still slightly audible. Restarting the car did not help, and all inputs were static-y as well. The radio was switched off, and they bought a cheap bluetooth speaker at Walmart for the remainder of the 2,500 mile trip. They continued to try the radio from time to time, but a day or so later, the infotainment was completely silent. No static, not even the faintest sound. The Bluetooth button on the steering wheel does not play the "beep" or speak. The central display seems to work as designed, but again, it makes no sounds. All functions seem to work, including the Bluetooth connections, but no sound comes from the speakers.

This, to me, seems like classic amplifier failure. If anyone has had similar experiences, I would love to hear them.

My car is outside the warranty, and I'm not willing to spend a grand fixing it at a dealer. Plus, the Hyundai dealer nearest us is kinda scummy. The amplifier itself should be a fairly easy swap, right? Where is the amplifier located, and are there any tricks to replacing it? In the BMW world that I come from, sometimes amplifiers must be "coded" to the vehicle. Are there any pitfalls like that in the Genesis?

Thanks for your help,

Nate
