Getting familiar with the group...
Count me in. Silence this morning on all audio modes (although the phone tones were audible). Shut it down and restarted, same thing; stopped for gas and it was fine when I restarted. 1500 miles.
You are not going to believe this. Hell, I don't believe this. It happened to me today.
What is strange is that I had my amplifier changed (due to this problem) over a year ago, and in the past year, the audio has worked perfect, but today, after leaving a restaurant, NO AUDIO. Parked in my garage, then after ten minutes or so, I went back in the garage, pushed the ignition on, and yes, the audio worked again.
When I have a chance, I'm going to look up just when I had the amp changed, so I can tell how long the audio was working correctly. No problems in a year, or more, and now again. Darn.
BTW, I think it was bad luck that this problem happened again, only after someone posts that he had the problem. I think the site owner should install a "No Audio Filter" on this site, so we all don't get jinxed.![]()
An Update on my previous post.
I went out at around 9pm after reading the forum and started up my 4.6 and sure enough, the audio was working.
Should I wait until it happens again or take it into the dealer on Monday and see if it is something they will take action on even if the symptoms are not present?
I got the 'no sound' problem today. I also got my first car payment bill in the mail today. Coincidence?
The unit seemed to be working except for the sound. I could change modes (Aux, XM, FM, etc.), use navigation, and bluetooth connected, but no audio.
The problem occurred as I was returning home from work. Everything worked fine this morning when I drove in. 8 hours later after being parked in a garage I had no sound when a started up my 2011 4.6.
I turned the car on and off a couple of times, but this did not resolve the problem. I called the dealer from my driveway and he told me to bring it in Monday and he would have a loaner car waiting for me. The problem didn't seem to surprise him. I have only 1300 miles on the car.
Reading this forum has also got me considering the extended warranty.
An update on my audio problem. I took the car in on Monday and the tech immediately told the service rep to check and see if they had a replacement amp in stock. They had the amp and replaced it, but ended up keeping the car overnight b/c they couldn't get the XM nav traffic to work with the new amp. After spending the next day working with XM techs, XM said they wanted to send them an amp with the latest software in it, believing this will fix the problem. I will being the car back to get the amp replaced again when the part arrives. As it stands now audio is working, but the XM nav traffic is not operational.
On a side note, while the dealer was working on my amp I got to drive a 3.8 for a couple of days and it proved to be enlightening. More so than when I did my test drive and was not familiar with either version of the car. I'll start by saying the v6 is a great vehicle and an ultimate bargain. That said, I am glad I got the v8. While the v6 is great on many levels there are a few subtle differences that give the v8 the edge.
- The steering feel on the v6 is good but I prefer the weightiness of the v8.
- The power delivery from the v8 is effortless. The v6 has good power, but you can hear the engine working to get you moving.
- The seats in the v8 are softer and more comfortable.
Had I never driven the v8 a would be perfectly satisfied with the v6, but since I have crossed that line I can't go back. If you can afford it, I recommend the v8.
The last post indicated that the navigation screen shows a mute icon, which I have as well and can't get rid of. I'm wondering if everyone gets the mute icon or if they are just getting no sound? I guess I have the same problem if people have the volume mute icon on their screen.
