  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

No top speed mentioned by tier..? (Repeating history?)

There's a bit of a hot potato thread over in the Stinger forums which started in January. It's really, really long.

TL;DR: 168mph-capable 3.3 engines were governed to ~140mph due to tire choice and/or AWD option as ordered from the factory. Some early owners weren't informed and felt/feel deceived by Kia marketing. Dealers either can't or won't flash the ECU or remove the governors. Yes, you can buy third party tunes, but WHYYY?!

I see size, but don't see speed ratings on the latest release from Genesis media.

Yes, German manufacturers set limiters on their cars at 155. (I'm not considering German at this point.)
No, I don't plan to drive super fast anywhere but on a track.

Is there a High Priest Vatican Assassin Warlock with tiger blood who can tell us what the top speeds by trim will be on the 2019 G70? Speaking as a serious prospect for Genesis, repeating history would be sub-optimal in my book...

To answer your WHYYY, liability. They would be nuts to increase the top speed on a car that is not properly equipped.

Perhaps you may see some speed ratings from reviews, but i doubt Genesis is going to give numbers.

I agree with your thoughts on liability; perhaps I could've been more clear: I was trying for brevity and humor...sometimes I miss the mark. (I like to remind my friends I don't promise good jokes...only jokes. ;) )

My comment was meant to poke a little at Kia's marketing. 'CHECK OUT THIS SPEED ON CAR X' then sell 'CAR Xbettercheckthefineprint' feels overhyped at best and dishonest at worst.

YES, I *should* read the fine print whenever making a large purchase...that's important...but I *want* to buy from a vendor I feel I can trust. I don't expect perfection; screwups are inevitable - but I *do* expect a great recovery.

A refreshing attitude. The best people and companies can make a mistake, the smart ones fix it right away. They are also more apt to help you when you approach them nicely, at least the first time.

Interesting point. I agree that a top speed of 140 is more than ample. But I also think that the Stinger ads are misleading in their demonstration of a top speed of 167. If the G70 is governed to a limit of 140, I'm perfectly happy with Genesis marketing simply not discussing the car's top speed. That's preferable to their giving a theoretical top speed that isn't actually attainable without some modification.

It appears that the Stingers delivered with 18" wheels and all season tires were speed-limited. The cars delivered with 19" wheels and Pilot Sport tires were not limited regardless of whether they were RWD or AWD. If you follow that logic for the Canadian market, the 3.3T Dynamic on 18" AS tires would be limited and the 3.3T Sport on 19" PS4's would not be. Pure conjecture on my part though.

Makes sense. It would certainly be unwise to have a car equipped with tires that can't handle the speed the car produces. So, governing the speed to match the tires seems like the responsible thing to do.

Totally. The part I don't quite get is the unwillingness(ability?) to remove/re-flash a bit of factory equipment to remove or modify the tuning. I'd happily sign a release of liability to put Y rated summer tires on my car.

Its not that simple. There is no way to control what happens when you no longer own the car. Or even if you will abide by the agreement in a few months. Two owners from now is some teenager that puts on a set of recaps, kills himself and the family sues. There are people that think no car should be capable of more than 75 mph. Put a few on the jury and the car company is screwed.

You can come up with all sorts of reasons you should be able to go faster but some lawyer will try to make a buck out of it. Maybe you don't get it but a staff of corporate lawyers sure do. Where are you planning to drive that fast?

Ok. I guess I'll just get a tune, then. Probably for the best.

I live in CA...first thought was Sonoma, second is Laguna Seca. Never had a car I could try this sort of thing before, though.
