  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just picked up my new R-Spec in Platinum Metallic! It's awesome!!:D:D

The dealer put on my wings in the front and back but said they can't do the steering wheel anymore due to safety issues with the airbag and voiding the warranty. Has anybody heard this before?

Thanks,

No, but you are lucky that your dealer even agreed to do the other Wings. There is nothing that says they need to do it. Besides, the stick on wings for the steering wheel are not as good as buying a new airbag from Korea.

Congrats on the purchase. Mine has the steering wheel wings but none on the hood. Haven't heard of any legitimate reason for not putting one on the steering wheel. It's a stick on so how could that affect anything?

Airbags injure and sometimes kill people all the time, even though on balance they save a lot more lives.

If you were in accident and were injured by your airbag, and your dealer put on the wings, your lawyer would sue them for a couple of million dollars, even if the wings had nothing to do with the injury.

Step 1 - attach a piece of brittle plastic to the front of an explosive.
Step 2 - put explosive 18" from customer's face
Step 3 - wait for customer to blow up explosive while writing up an explanation for the jury why it was a good idea to do this

Oh wait, congrats on the new ride! :-)

I really don't like the look of the stick-on wings, but I'm not too happy with the OEM airbag from Korea either. The quality of the wings on mine is poor -the finish is dull and looks kind of scratchy. I probably should have sent it back for exchange, but I didn't pay that much attention to it when I installed it and it's too late now...

IMO the stick wings are potentially unsafe in the case of a front end collision. Mine lasted about a week.

It's a plastic sticker over a metal H. the metal H in your face is far worse than the plastic any day. As for lasting, mine was on my 4.6 for 2 years without a hint of moving/coming loose in temps varying from -35 to 110F.

Dealers will not touch your airbags or the LATCH system. By "law", we cannot help you put a child seat in your car. Its just a CYA. But its something that we took very seriously.

That's not counting the time one of the service techs set off the airbags while working on a car. Thats a different situation entirely :D

The metal H in the steering wheel is embedded and is not going to come out if the airbag is activated. Several people found out this the hard way by trying to remove the H before putting on the wing cover. I assume that the KDM wings on the steering wheel are likewise embedded.

Correct. The wing is also flush with the airbag cover. Another reason I ripped my stick on and purchases the KDM airbag.
Not only are the OEM and KDM ones flush, they are not going to come loose when the air bag explodes. I remember seeing posts (with pics) by people who tried to remove the H before putting on the wing cover, and it very difficult get out, and not just glued in there.

First of all the the stick on wings are not plastic. Fact is it's made of thin piece of metal. The factory H is not raised nor will it become a projectile if the bag deploys.

Again, I had the stick on my R-Spec, and removed it after about a week.

Not sure where we are in this thread, but I got the whole new air bag assembly with wing fitting flush. Two different dealers installed. One on the 4.6 and the other on the Rspec.

Please post pics of wings on steering wheel? Of how it should look.... ;)

If you really like the look of the OEM wings on the steering wheel, then it is worth the $250. It only takes about 7 minutes to install it yourself. I think that the stick-on looks a little cheezy. You don't want anything on your car to degrade the quality look of the vehicle. The dealer will stay away from the safety system in order to avoid any possibility of liability.

Yes... the OEM one looks so much better!
I would not consider the sticky one... too cheap looking!
