  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I finally got the LED trunk light kit from KAI, with two surprises. First, when you order one unit (at ~$60, if memory serves), that's what you get. Just one of the two light fixtures in the trunk! So to convert completely from incandescent to LED lights in the trunk will cost $120...yikes! Do I really want to see the crap in my trunk that clearly?

Oh well, I thought...I'll plug in the one I got and decide if it's worth it to buy a second one. Unlike the recent postings about how tricky it is to install the LED kit for the rear license (something I had the dealer do for me), it's a breeze to pull out the stock trunk light assembly and snap in the new one. However, IT DOESN'T WORK! I tried it in both fixtures, but 'no go'. No instructions came with it, either.

I could have sworn that I read a post a month or so ago where someone installed the LED trunk kit and loved it, but when I search this site now, all I find are postings about the license kit.

Has anyone installed the LED trunk kit (successfully or otherwise)? I guess I'll send a note to KAI and let 'em know I received a dud. Hope I don't encounter the same run-around reported by other KAI customers on this site...

It appears it's my fate to be the site trailblazer insofar as the LED trunk light(s). So be it. I'll letcha know what I hear back from KAI about my plug-n-play failure. This 'early adopter' business isn't all it's cracked up to be!

Well, it took took the keen vision of my teenage son to solve the problem, but solved it is. My new LED trunk light works just fine now that the little (and I mean LITTLE) on/off switch in one corner of the device is turned on. Again, no instructions whatsoever ship with the part, and given that, you'd think they might choose to ship the damn thing in the "on" position. Oh well, lookin' for logic in all the wrong places...

And I gotta tell ya...it's damn bright in that trunk now! Being a sucker for symmetry, I just ponied up another $60 to buy an LED kit for the other side. I'd better make sure I have sunglasses on when I open the trunk from now on!

Glad to hear it's working! I've been thinking about getting one (now guess it's a pair?!) but was waiting to hear how it went for you.

Do you have the license plant lights yet? I did those already and they look very nice. I wonder if the trunk lights are as bright/brighter?

Jonah -- yes, I also have the LED license kit, and both are VERY bright. Is it worth $120 to illuminate your trunk like an operating room? Probably not, but what the hell. One option would be to swap out only one of the two fixtures, which still increases the photon level substantially.
