  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a V6 premium package with standard halogen headlamps and was wondering if anyone has changed these bulbs to a "whiter" looking bulb, like some sylvania silver stars or equivalent?
I'd be interested in hearing the results.

Hey. Anyone have any answers for VaiFan?

Sure!

First, IMO silverstars are no better than what you can get out of a JCWhitney magazine for $5 a bulb. Ive been through 2 sets of them. Always keeping in mind not to touch the glass.

Second, does the v6 model have projector lenses or just the housing?

I am pretty sure that the projector LENS is the same as it is on an HID car as far as light cutoff goes. You can save up a little money and get an aftermarket HID kit for it which is EASY to install or you can just do the bulb swap. If you go higher in wattage you may want to check out your factory harness to see if it can handle the extra wattage.

Be advised...with just the bulb swap...If you plan on cruising through Alabama with them expect a warning or a ticket. I've had 4 warnings before i purchased the HID kit for my Camry. If you get the HID kit, make sure it is as close to pure WHITE as possible. The bright blues and purples will get you a ticket quick! My first set were purple (by vendors mistake) and within 1 hour I had a ticket to remove the lights within 24 hours.

I could go on and on but you get my drift. Good luck with it and ask all the questions you want...thats what were here for!

I second the HID kit... if you want real white output that will actually be USEFUL, then don't go higher than 5000k. 4500k is as close to white you're going to get. 5000k is white with just a light hint of blue but works awesome.

be careful with HID plug and play kit. Real HIDs have a cutoff so as not to blind on coming drivers. If you install a "plug and play" HID kit into halogen headlights the cutoff will not be there. For me I would see about getting OEM HIDs installed, may be a little pricey but it will be closest to OEM

^ Not true. I put some HID PnP on my wife's SF and it has a much better cutoff than my Mazdaspeed 6 (factory HID's) - there is alot of glare and no cut off.

I have dealt with xenonexperts.com many of times (very reputable). They're good and can help you out. PM me if you need a name :)

if the OEM mazda HIDs have glare then that is a huge problem. I have not seen a single OEM HID that didnt have a clean cutoff. But I have mostly seen BMW, MB, Lexus, Audi. The problem with plug n play kits is that the OEM halogen headlights dont have the proper lens to produce the cutoff. I have used a kit on my GS and the glare was horrendous, and most kits I have seen at car shows and on the streets also have bad glare, so from my experience the plug n play kits are not as good as OEM HID.
