  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

As the title states, what are the sales volumes in the US for 2017 and 2018 Genesis (all models). The reason I ask is I have had my G90 for over a month and have yet to see another one on the road, I live in a nice community that is about 20 miles from Sacrament, CA and I have seen more large Mercedes and BMW's than Genesis ( which is pretty obvious since I have yet to see a new Genesis :rolleyes)

Figures were posted about a week or so ago. You may want to do a search for them. G90 is pretty low volume. I've only ever seen maybe two in a couple of years. In February I took a 3500 mile trip. Saw none on the way down, saw a few In Florida and a few on the way back. Did not see any north of Virginia.

That includes all Genesis from all years.

Averaged 366 a month in 17 and now averaging 328 per month thus far in 2018.

I've seen 2 or 3 G90s in Central Alabama and maybe 10 or so 1st and 2nd generation Genesis cars. That's more than Tesla, but a very small number compared to Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, and Audi. The lack of standalone dealerships hurts sales — it's hard to get people shopping in the luxury segment to step into a Hyundai dealer. I also think that an SUV or crossover Genesis would sell better than the sedan.

Genesis sold 20,594 in 2017 and 4,362 YTD for 2018 - of which the G90 comprised 4,398 and 984 YTD in sales, respectively.

Simply not going too many G90s in the Sacramento area; best places to see G90s are in South Florida and Texas.

Along the same lines, not going to see many A8s, (2016MY and later) LS 460s or XJs either.

Don't think it's that so much.

The Genesis/G80 has consistently outsold the A6 and GS (outselling the GS by more than a 2:1 margin), and for a time, even the G90 was outselling the LS (granted, the LS 460 was long in the tooth) and is still outselling the A8 (as well as the XJ).

Brand perception has a strong role. I had never seen a 3,000 dollar Seiko. In Dubai saw a pair in a little jewelry. In the same shopping center you could cross with a couple hundreds of Rolexes, for 6K to 50K. Now Amazon offers high price Seikos. Maybe Grand Seikos (their lexuses)
Some years ago Maybach's (the German Rolls Royces, produced currently by Mercedes) had their production stopped for low sales. Basic reason: it was embarrassing have to explain that the car was the German Rolls.
Rolls' were never the British Maybachs.
Now they are back in market. ( I guess China has a role in this)
Anyway: high end Germans area a high barrier.

I know of only one other G90 in La Jolla, Ca. HIgh networth neighborhood. I'll see 16 Tesla S models and 10 X models erryday.

I finally saw another G90 today. This is the first in 2 months. As someone said I saw 5 Tesla S' s today. It is nice to not seeing yourself on the road. The more I own this car the more I fall deeper in love with it!

^ Cali is ground zero for Teslas.

Question is - how many of the LS, A8, CT6 and Conti do you see?

Way too many Teslas in SoCal. Rarely seen A8, CT6. LS and Conti about the same and both more than G90

I can’t drive two blocks without seeing a Tesla or two.
I see an occasional G80 every so often, but have only seen one G90 in the past six months.

The Genesis brand isn't pursuing sales with ads for the G90. Look in the Sunday papers and see who are out for sales.
Almost like they are trying to limit sales till they have stand alone dealerships

Sunday paper? Dealers run those ads, not Genesis Motors.

Besides, people who buy a G90 (or G80) don't read the newspaper anymore, they get information (and subjected to advertising) on the Internet. Genesis has spent millions on Super Bowl ads, title sponsorship of the Genesis (LA) Open PGA event, and on many other TV shows frequented by the demographics who might buy a Genesis.

You are right on target about that. Gene2 lists his age as 72 which might explain his different frame of reference.

There's another G90 right on my damn street! :suicide:

I have two $6000+ Seiko's. One's a Grand Seiko, and both are Spring Drive movements. I flashed one of them at a Zale's a few years back. The salesperson couldn't believe that Seiko made watches that cost thousands of dollars. She almost fainted when I said they have a $300,000 one... (sorry to get off topic)

Is that because it cost that much new, or because it is rare?

I have 4 Seiko watches that I bought new on Ebay for about $100 each or less. They were discontinued quartz chronograph designs (new old stock), and previously sold for about $250 or so when they were in the current catalog. I prefer the older classic and simple designs. Also, some of the newer watches are just too big.

I also have one Tissot quartz that I paid about $300 overseas, that had an MSRP of about $575 in the US. I recently replaced the battery myself for about $2 using a watch case wrench I bought for about $15.

The one thing about self-winding automatics I don't like is that I don't wear any one watch enough to keep it wound, and think it is ridiculous to buy a watch winder machine.

That's the new price. It's the Credor Sonnerie. I prefer mechanical (automatic or manual wind watches). I just reset it wind it before putting it on. I don't use a winder.

Where I live in Arizona there are close to 1 million of us retired folks my age. We almost all still read the paper each day and on Sunday look at the ads. Genesis can also place ads where my age group will see them. We don't watch the PGA tournaments, we play golf. We have the money to buy these cars, and just don't see the ads where they are run.
Genesis is really missing out as we like a luxury car but are tired of paying over $100,000.00 for them. We are a very large group who can buy these cars if we are reached out to. To bad people think we don't buy luxury cars
