  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

OEM oil filters

Well, when the time comes, "I'll buy that for 6 dollars".... +10

I can see that with spin-ons, you can have many different applications, but the Genesis is pretty specific...so if we could get some clue as to the materials used in the filtration medium, I'll be 'sold' to to speak.
My main point is that I don't really think there are multiple manufacturers. Just one manufacturer with re-branded name (Hyundai OEM, Wix, Fram, etc). We pretty much verified that by people posting pics of the OEM and after-market filters. If you have any pics, please post them.

The only complicating factor is that they switched manufacturers from MANN to MAHLE. I think if you have a 2012, it specifies the MAHLE with white end-caps, which may need better filter element for the GDI engines (speculating), even though some have reporting that the white end-caps seem more flimsy than the old black plastic ones. The newer MAHLE filters certainly cost more than the old MANN ones.

I found purolator that looks decent and the Wix looks substantial, not much for Fram paper products.

the fram filters I've seen have metal end caps but the Hyundai filters have some type of fiber/polymer end caps.

I had a question about the ones I bought from the dealer (for $11 and change each) because I thought they wouldn't fit into the housing correctly. The mechanic at the dealership showed me those fiber/polymer ends will stretch to fit onto the post in the housing.

I'd still rather not pay $11 and change for the same filter Advance Auto sells for $7.

I use fram filters on my other vehicles. Fram filters and Mobil 1 oil.

86 IROC has 186,000 miles on it and still runs like a top.
I made the mistake of trading my 1990 F150 in on my wife's 2010 Fusion but the Ford still had 251,000 miles on it when I traded it in.
I've got just over 115,000 on my wife's Cherokee Sport (2001 model).

I've got no complaints about the Fram filters from WalMart.
