  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have the 2015 3.8 version Genesis and went to the parts store to look for an oil filter but in the book where you look up your car to find the correct filter, the years only go to 2014. I'm just wondering if the part number for the 2014 Genesis 3.8 will be the same as for the 2015 model.

What do you mean "you went to the parts store"? Do not purchase an oil filter from anyone other than a Hyundai dealer.

There are some dealers (like Jim Ellis in Atlanta) that sell them online at a discount. But if you ask for a discount at your dealer parts department, they will usually give you a very good price over the counter.

Nonsense. Buy any brand name filter. You don't need to buy only Hyundai filters..

The filters used in a Genesis are not like those for mass market cars where there are some very good after-market filters.

The OEM filter is made by Mahle (who makes the oil filter housing system), and some after-market filters are also made by Mahle, so they are OK. But there are some cheap knock-offs made in China.

One is not going to save money by getting after-market filters for the Genesis, unless you find a junk Chinese one. There is no reason not to purchase from a dealer parts department. Just ask them for a discount and they will give you a decent price.

Hyundai does not make filters, Mahle makes the ones Hyundai has branded with their name and part number. I certainly have no issue using an aftermarket. In fact, most are the same if not better quality than the original. Unfortunately on my 2015 V8 nobody has an aftermarket so I found a place on eBay (Hyundai dealer) and bought 5 to make the shipping worth while. If you know the original part number, try searching with it in both eBay and Amazon. Most likely cheaper than your local dealer.

As I mentioned in my post, I was not referring to oil filters in general, just the ones for the Hyundai Genesis. There are the Mahle ones (Hyundai brand or maybe sold as some other brand) and a Chinese knock-off. I guarantee you don't want the Chinese knock-off.

I have purchased about a dozen Genesis oil filters so far for my 2009 Genesis, and most were purchased from a Hyundai dealer online. But I purchased a few at a local dealer, and asked for a discount, and they usually gave me a decent price.

OEM part# for Oil Filter 3.8L engine is 26320-3CKB0
Internet prices for factory filters are from $7.50 to $9.00
also check EBAY using this part #

I agree 100%. Don't be cheap trying to save maybe $7.00 per oil change on a $30k+ car and risk engine damage.

The dealer Hyundai filters will come with the O-Rings (if your car uses them), and maybe a crush washer, and maybe a discount.

Other than that, the filters look like something my lawnmower would use.
Made by Mahle? Used by Mercedes Benz or BMW? Doesn't impress me.

For what it's worth, I do use the Hyundai stuff - For me, easier to obtain.

By the way, the second source stuff ain't necessarily Chinese, last time I looked at Purolator filters for the Sonata, they were from India.

Mahle manufacturers filters in many locations, including India. As I mentioned, some of the after-market Genesis filters are identical to the Hyundai OEM filter, both made by Mahle. But one has to be sure they are not getting a knock-off.

Cartridge filters work fine, and are environmentally more friendly than metal spin on ones. But they require a precise fit, and need to make sure to get the OEM one, or one made by same company as OEM one.

The CORRECT Oil Filter Part Number for the 2015 Genesis Tau V-8 is 26320-3F500! Can be obtained from HyundaiOEMparts.com for $8.17 each +ship&tax. My local Dealer charges $18.00+ tax

The Wix company has a great web-site that walks you through the right filter for your car by model year, engine and so forth. The Wix filters are superior to the factory filter that was in my 2015 3.8. The Wix brand is right up there with the best of the best. Besides Hyundia is using a crapy cartridge filter in the new 3.8. Not a very impressive filter in a so-called luxury car. The torque is 35 Nm marked on the 27 mm plastic nut on the filter housing. Tough to guess without a good torque wrench.

The filter module, the filter, and the housing are made by Mahle, who also makes the ones for Mercedes Benz and others.

I was just about to ask about the WIX filters. I can get them at my local Napa store for like $9.00
