Considering the acronym used in the title for this thread, I hope you stay with BMW's. I think they may fit your personality better.

Yep....as the BMW has a great feel that the Ginny I drove did not seem to have tho it was not a long test drive and the brand still depreciates like they did in the 80's. That being said.... the body lines of the G are so captivating that I am willing to trade the 2. BMW dealers are a whole other topic that I will just skip.

From my personal experience - if you are looking for reliability first and foremost then buy an Avalon. I ran my 2000 for 100K miles with a total of just over $2000 in maintenance (the 90K service) and not a single repair or failure of any kind.

Only problem was....I didn't like driving it. With the steering wheel in a comfy position it completely hid the dash speedo and gauges. The driver's seat was not comfortable when driving over a couple hours. And the suspension was too soft. One reason I bought the Rspec was to remedy those issues, and it has.

Too soon to say if the Genny will replicate the Toyota's reliability but I sure like driving it a lot more.

BTW, the German marques are known for killing you with maintenance costs but to be fair most people drive them harder as well. I was temped with the Bimmer but went with the Hyundai instead and haven't been disappointed.

The Avalon was given to my daughter who is still driving it with over 130K miles on the clock and it has had exactly one repair - a leaky gasket.

If you do not enjoy driving the car....whats the point in having it right?

I pretty much agree, as I anticipate future posts will be more about the OP's needs/issues/complaints than about the car or making useful contributing to the forum.

If there is a widespread problem with brake failure we will all hear about it and in a BIG way. Even one brake failure is too many but apparently the issue is experienced by only a few (again I say even one is too many)...

In general the Genesis is a nice car, but I have noted that Hyundai does not stand by their warranty claim very well. I have found Gm and Honda to be better at backing their cars up with dealers....... not complaining, just stating the facts

I hope you are right, but what is your definition of a "few." Is that 2, 3, 5? I think more than that on this forum have experienced the problem. Keep in mind that it "apparently" only affects early model year Genesis (2009 mostly) and only after a certain number of miles/years. So I am not sure how many will eventually be affected, but since I have a 2009, I am concerned.

I am on my 7th "H".. I never had any issues with my 2 warranty claims
over the last 8years..(Radio unit in the old Elantra//Battery in the '09 Azera)..
Overall I think "H" offer a more reliable vehicle off the Lot (New). More recent experiences with both Ford & VW ended in moving the vehicles onward..
VW was the worst motoring experience I have had for many a decade..
My 2013 "G" is a gr8 vehicle.. Nothing is perfect - even Me

Having been on this forum for 4 1/2 years, and read many posts by people who have taken problems to a Hyundai dealer (included the brake failure problem) I am quite sure that Hyundai (HMA) will not authorize a part change unless the dealer can duplicate the problem.

Believe it or not, they will not even do this for the $0.50 (their cost) diode that would be replaced for the rear brake light problem. If there were an exception, it would be covered by a TSB or recall, and the only TSB for brakes is the upgrade of brake fluid from DOT-3 to DOT-4 (hard to believe this would fix the brake failure problem as those who finally got it fixed had their ABS module replaced, which is $1,600 MSRP part).

Correct, the fluid change will not stop the abs module failure. The fluid will help reduce risk of brake fade after heavy ESC activity or a brake pad "riding" on a disk (whether or not due to ABS/ESC issues).

I had my ABS module replaced at about 35k miles under warranty. The bypass valve sticks open or leaks internally, allowing fluid past when it shouldn't.

I don't believe that there is a preventive TSB for the diode issue. The TSB just describes how to diagnose and fix the problem if it happens. If I am wrong about that, please correct me.

I got my Genny in June 2010 with 9 miles on it, it's now at 52k miles and overall has been a great car. She has spent her fair share of time in the shop, but I don't think it's any worse then other cars I have owned from a maintenance standpoint.

The one nagging issue with mine has been the OCV (oil control valve) and sensor have gone bad several times. Beyond that no major complaints beyond the stuff that everyone else has pretty much experienced. Thankfully I've had zero safety related issues and anything that was a TSB they immediately took care of during a routine visit.

I'm still in debate on waiting for the new one to come out late next year or picking up a 2014. My biggest fear about owning the latest body style / tech package is letting them work out the bugs the first production runs usually have. The things I really wish my car had is BSM system and Bluetooth Audio. I still don't see why Hyundai hasn't made such a simple change to the tech package to incorporate the blind spot monitoring system which IMO is by far more important than lane departure warning. It's really sad to see KIA one upping the tech each year over Hyundai which should be leading the pack.
