  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

One headlight went out after just 2 years of use. Genesis 2015.

I've never had a headlight go out one me before period, even after a decade of use.

Is this an indication of a bigger issue?

Weird thing is that the warranty pamphlet doesn’t show anything about HID bulbs but Halogen bulbs are into the "bulb" exception covered by 3 years/36,000 miles warranty.

Then it probably wont be covered. I'd get a pair of replacements from the retrofit source and do them both so they match. They aren't terribly expensive.

Problem is not the HID bulbs per se, the big deal is changing them, you need to take off the front bumper or do some magic with your fingers when installing them. If I have to do it again (I did it in my 1G) I would buy the Osram CBI and swap both bulbs.

It's been said that power cycling HID lamps is not a good thing. If you have used the car with the lights set to "auto", that may have contributed to a premature failure.

Where do you see 3 years/36,000 miles for Halogen bulbs in the link I provided above?

I just had my headlights out about an hour ago to the LED brightness mod. The G2's have Osram bulbs and ballasts already, so all set there. I'd still change the bulbs as a pair, and go with the 6000k.

I think the driver's side is accessible without pulling the bumper, and the passenger side should be if you pull the airbox. That being said - pulling the bumper was not difficult either.

Interestingly my right hid light has started turning pink after the lights come on. After some research, it appears I can change this myself after doing some disassembly but not removing the front bumper. The replacement bulbs would be about $150 for the pair.

My wife suggested I contact my local Hyundai dealer to see what they would charge. I knew the bulbs were out of warranty. This is a 2015 car with 42,000 miles and almost three years old. So first I called and asked the cost of a replacement bulb. I was told it was $400 and that was without installation. The technician insisted that I make an appointment and have them look at it.

I took my car in today and they said they would replace the entire headlight assembly under warranty. Its crazy since to do this they will have to remove the bumper.

I'm happy and my wife is right once again.

The probable reason is if they find something wrong with the assembly, they can charge Hyundai for it, but if it was just a bulb failure they could not. Likely the warranty charge will be greater than the $400 they quoted you.

Rick, isn't your car an American sedan that you imported back into Korea? My apologies if my memory is failing me.
