If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Open Letter to Genesis Motors - How I'd Improve the GV60

Where do I start?

I agree with many of the points already made and would include / reinforce some of these as follows:
  • If you can't produce more regular OTA updates as Tesla do, then can you licence the Tesla operating system to work with the GV60. Their software is vastly superior but I don't want to drive a Tesla. This is a must and the number of software controlled functions that could be available to drivers to manage is huge and need not be restricted.
  • Walk away locking as standard
  • Dashcam and sentry mode using the proliferation of cameras already built into the car; could be stored on app in phone / PC if no memory capacity in car
  • Improve efficiency of Sport plus to get closer to 4 miles/KWhr (and beyond?) and thus improve range
  • Add Tesla Superchargers to Genesis maps so pre-conditioning works OR add manual pre-conditioning; I would prefer the former
  • Alexa integration
  • Homelink, or similar, features for gates / garage doors
  • Memory functions related to key fobs so car set up for individual drivers based on key fob in range of car
  • Intelligent charging to maximise charging rates of various chargers
  • Not sure why passenger cannot benefit from seat massaging features, side bolsters etc. If there are two people in the front on long journeys, why should the passenger also benefit from massage?
  • Competitive insurance; just got a quote from "Genesis" insurance at 2x what I have got from my current insurer; madness and hardly a benefit. When I collected the car last year I was inundated with offers from Genesis PA to take advantage of their "great" deals only to find they couldn't provide cover for GV60 as they had changed insurance company.
  • My facial recognition feature doesn't work and having gone back to get this sorted, almost a year ago, I was told at the time it was a "software" issue. How can this be the case when it only affects a few cars? I still haven't had this resolved despite being told that Genesis would be looking into it. It's a feature that I would really like to have and its very annoying that it doesn't work for me.

The US cars include Homelink, right?

Yes.

I've been a senior software developer since the 1980s. Even if Tesla and Hyundai wanted to do this (they don't), this isn't technically possible. The software is very closely tied to the actual hardware.

6. A small light in the charging door would be useful - I keep an LED booklight in the car for this.

Haven’t seen if the refresh will have this but really appreciated it when I plugged into a GV70 loaner and could see!
An Amazon solution that works well and so far hasn’t caused a fire..

You were able to stick this in a spot where the cover can still close? Looks tight, but maybe if positioned in the exact spot needed.

BTW, your Amazon link didn't work, maybe this forum converts all links to kdmwarehose? Let's see if this link works.

You're right, these button lights are a great solution. 👍 Fits perfectly and is plenty bright. I bought a 6 pack so since I'll only be using the light for a few minutes per week that should last me for a few years.

A bit late to the party. But I'd like to add my thoughts as well.

I feel its important to note where the vehicle is purchased from, since I understand different countries have different features.

I have a GV60P from Canada.

A few things I'd like changed/added are:

1. More control over how to use the in car navigation. For me, it always defaults to searching online for optimal route/traffic. But connected services work like 70% of the time for me, other 30% of the time I literally have to wait like 5 minutes for it to give up and let me use the offline mode. It's ridiculous. oh and also, HUD does not show navigation instructions if using Android Auto.

2. Better control over charging. The app for canada is kinda crappy at best. If I schedule charging, even though it's advertised to finish charging when I'm about to leave, it actually just charges whenever it's plugged in. For better battery conservation, I'd like to be able to actually schedule my charge time (say I want 100% charge at 8am, it will ensure it doesn't reach 100% until then). On the same note, why can't I set it to charge to intervals of 5%? Why must it be 10% at a time, what if I wanted 75% charge? It really shouldn't be that hard to give the user better control over this stuff.

3. The performance model is a powerful car, but it's also a luxury car. The transition from auto hold to moving is not very smooth when I drive on eco/comfort mode. Almost every time there's an abrupt jerk if I wanted to release the auto hold and creep forward. I drove the g80 electric as a courtesy car during my last service. It did NOT have that issue. Why isn't this fixed quickly? Do people not test out all types of driving?

4. More frequent updates. For a car like this, (and driving data from 3 different brands (hyundai ioniq 5, kia ev6, and this GV60), I would expect you to have a LOT of data collected for quality of life improvements for the user. Our last update in canada was in october. That's more than half a year ago. and the current car offerings are definitely NOT perfect, though it has the potential to be quite close. I feel the least you can do (especially if you're trying to market yourself to be a LUXURY brand) is to get this part right. Tesla got as popular as it did because of their software, they only slowly improved everything else. The least you guys can do is get the basics of what they did right, and provide it to us as well!

5. side notification overlay to go over android auto screen. When swapping songs using in car BT, there's a side screen that pops up that shows what song is being played if you skip forward or back. OR when you use the massage function, it pops up to indicate what parts you want to use. These do NOT pop up when you're connected to android auto. Why not? Even if I was connected, I benefit in seeing this.

6. Sentry mode/dashcam mode. To my understanding, the ev6 in korea has a sentry mode. we have 360 cams. What the hell is keeping us from getting it?? Makes no sense since it's so helpful.

7. Connected services is trash. I've had 3 different weekends where I tried using it and i got 80% "cannot connect" when parked in various different locations. I'm not out in the middle of nowhere either, mostly going to city centers and such. I essentially just gave up using it.

In my opinion, none of what I'm suggesting here is really that hard of a fix for Genesis. But at the same time, It would make the car so much easier to enjoy, and so much harder for me to complain about. Other users have good points too, but some/many may take a while longer to come up with a solution. This list honestly shouldn't take long at all.

I didn't know that anyone would buy the Performance model and then drive it in Eco mode. I haven't in a year and a half. I had an electrified G80 as a loaner a year ago for a few weeks and I don't remember it behaving differently but, again, I have never tried Eco mode. The G80 is not marketed as a performance vehicle. I view it as a grand cruiser which should be smoother than the GV60P.

You do you, but this car is also my daily driver, I switch around the drive modes often. I don't need all that horsepower on a work day going through city traffic jams, so its eco/comfort then. Anytime there's less traffic or I want some fun it goes comfort/sport. My issue isn't the performance aspect, its the transition from a held stop to go. In the G80 it feels like any other car (gas or electric) where a light press of the pedal releases the hold, and the car slowly creeps forward. For this, every time I do the same, it jerks like...releasing a spring. Its not dangerously fast or anything, but enough to make it uncomfortable, especially going through multiple intersections in short periods of time. Note that this happens in both eco and comfort mode. Perhaps you don't encounter as much traffic as I do on a work day?

My current solution is pressing the pedal a bit harder where it goes fast enough to avoid the jerking motion and then releasing it to creep, but that extra bit of attention adds up when you're in stop and go traffic. It sounds like a small issue, but it shouldn't be a hard fix. especially since they already nailed it in another car.

I don't recall that being a problem but I will pay attention (if I remember) and see if it happens for me too.

Add a retain mode for I-Pedal. Make it a default-off setting if you need to keep the key-up stuff for efficiency testing.

1. Allow it to retain the i-pedal setting. At a minimum, going into reverse should not cancel i-pedal. It would be even better if turning the car off did not cancel i-pedal. This is a safety feature -- if I forget that i-Pedal is not engaged, the car will not decelerate as needed/expected. I usually turn on i-Pedal ASAP when starting a drive, and leave it on all the time (except when cruise control turns it off). But occasionally I'll get distracted and forget, and then not notice until I need to decelerate. Then it's like "oops - need to brake NOW". I understand this may affect efficiency testing, but that's a you problem.

I'm always in favor of giving the user more options... I will say I was originally in your camp but since finding out the vehicle is less efficient in i-pedal (since it keeps the front motor always energized, resulting in worse efficiency at speed particularly highway) I sort of get why Genesis does this.

The only thing I can think of right now is giving the user more options for using the car to control charging speeds, right now I think they give us 3 different levels but don't specify exactly what amperage for L2 each one is... should be able to just set the exact amperage you want to charge from an L2 charger.

If I wanted a RWD car, I would have purchased one. (By the way, I think the RWD version also won't leave i-pedal on by default, but I'm not sure about that. Anyone with an RWD car on here that confirm that?)

I'm not saying they should force you into iPedal mode. If efficiency is your top priority, by all means leave i-pedal off. I just want the option to leave i-pedal on, even though it may slightly reduce the mi/kwh when highway driving.

By the way, turning on the cruise control automatically turns off i-pedal. If I'm on a long trip, I'm probably using cruise control most of the time, so I'm getting the higher efficiency automatically. When I turn off the cruise control, i-pedal comes back on automatically, so I get the driving feel I want. I just want to avoid having to remember to turn on i-pedal every time I start the car, and also every time I use reverse gear.

Of course. But one of the features I liked about the GV60P is that it is rear wheel biased. I keep the drive performance widget up on my screen and usually it is only powering the rear wheels. But if I step on it to pass someone, both motors are energized.

Level 3 != RWD, you smash the accelerator you are getting both motors... even a brisk acceleration is going to activate the front motor in level 3.

I didn't know that, so that is good to know. I'm still in agreement with you that the user should be allowed to keep it in i-pedal until the user decides to switch, and the reverse gear issue is one of the main reasons why I stopped using i-pedal, that was incredibly annoying.
