  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Open Letter to Genesis Motors - How I'd Improve the GV60

When I put the shifter in Drive after reversing, I'd like to see the mirrors stay dipped until I put the shifter in Park, or the speed exceeds a certain level
(e.g. 15 km/h (9 mph), which is when the doors lock, if you've turned on "Auto lock enable on speed").
I like it.

It would also be nice if the mirrors unfolded automatically when the speed exceeds 9mph. Tesla does that.

Yours don't unfold when you unlock the doors?

Not when I manually commanded them to fold.

Here's the scenario. My garage is tight so I fold the mirrors when I enter the garage. When I leave, I would like the mirrors to unfold automatically when the car reaches 9mph. Sometimes I forget and don't notice until I get to the first stoplight. I don't see any reason why the car should allow the mirrors to remain folded while the car is actually driving.

I've often wanted this. BMW does this over x MPH and it's useful.

Having a G70 courtesy car at the moment, I definitely prefer the mode selector (ECO, Comfort & Sport) to be like the petrol vehicles, one can go either way on the selection list. I know with only three to choose between on the GV60, it’s not that much of a scroll but since I really only use two, it would have been nice to have the toggle style switch.

Ditto.

Every time I drive SWMBO's GV60, I'm slightly annoyed by the fact that I have to push buttons to close the garage door and extend the outside mirrors, not to mention toggle the drive mode selector to Sport.

My Tesla does the first two automatically every time I approach or leave the house, and of course it stays in my preferred drive mode unless I switch it, which I never do.

Are you listening, Genesis???

Oh, the horror of it all!:ROFLMAO:

LOL - first world problems for sure, but after you’ve become accustomed to those little niceties, you miss them when they’re absent…

…especially on a car that was ~25% more expensive than the Tesla…😉

Stupid question -- I've never tried to use one of the custom buttons on the steering wheel. Is there any chance one of them could be programmed do all those actions you want in a series, like one of the macro commands on an old universal tv remote?

Nope. They're not that powerful. Not even close!

Every vehicle does somethings that fit a particular individual well and others that don't. For example, the Genesis actually has a display in front of the driver and a HUD. The Tesla 3 and Y do not.

So each of us has to decide what is important to us and what is not. If that means you are better served by purchasing a Tesla, go for it; if it means that the GV60 is a better fit, go for that; and if it means that neither is find another vehicle all together. The nice thing nowadays is that there are choices.

Right, but this entire thread is about changes/improvements we’d like to see on the GV60…

true. I got distracted by your comparison to the Tesla. My bad.

It's amazing how many people allow Tesla to live rent-free in their heads...

Remember, though that without Tesla, the EV market would not exist in its current form.

I do agree. I could go on about how I don't like the current Tesla direction but as you point out, that is not the purpose of this thread (nor of this forum).

Very true. On the flip side, the monstrosity otherwise known as the CyberYuck™ might not exist so....I could go either way.

With all of the tech and luxury in this car, it seems like a small ask to add a digital rear view mirror. This option would address the broken view caused by the ill placed spoiler.

The caveat to my suggestion is that I have never owned a car with a digital rear view mirror. Feel free to tell me why this is a bad idea.

There’s at least one small issue for those of us (old folks) who wear progressive lenses. The focal length of the upper part of our glasses is set for distance, and this works great with a mirror that reflects distant objects. It’s also great that the rearview mirror is up “high”, matching the upper part of the glasses. But when that mirror is replaced by a TV screen, that screen is actually a near focusing object that requires use of the lower part of the progressive glasses. In order to see the close TV screen, I have to tilt my head way up, messing up vision elsewhere. Very bad. The solution might be some sort of TV screen with a built-in lens that puts the image in a distant field.

If only our cars had cameras pointing to the rear, and some sort of large screen that could display the rear camera while driving forward. What's that you say? The hardware is all already there?

Seriously, it would be cool if we could program one of our custom buttons to display the rear camera even when driving forward. This would only require a software change... so I'm not holding my breath.

At the LA Car Show one thing the Genesis booth staff was willing to say was that a digital rear view mirror is coming.

As for shortcomings, all of the cars I've seen that have digital rear view mirrors also have a button that allows you to flip in a standard optical mirror, so you can pick the one that works best for you. So far I've never driven a car with a digital mirror. I did sit in a Nissan Arriya at the car show that had one, it was kind of weird, but it was hard to tell sitting in the middle of a trade show rather than on the road.

If the digital rear view mirror is anything like the window that opens up when I turn on the turn signal, I can do without it. I don't think it gives me a realistic picture of what is behind me.
