  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Open Letter to Genesis Motors - How I'd Improve the GV60

These could be easily corrected with changes to code, if Genesis employed capable individuals that cared to fix them.
Two points:

1. It's really, really, really difficult for hardware companies to recruit good software engineers. (It's also hard for software companies, but not really really really hard.) Good software engineers want to work somewhere cutting edge like Apple, Google or Tesla (maybe not Tesla so much any more), not at a legacy car company.

2. In the software industry, the words "easily corrected with changes to code" are known as "famous last words."

That said, you're certainly not wrong that Genesis, like pretty much every legacy carmaker (and many other companies), desperately needs software talent. If they realized how desperately they needed this, maybe they would take the desperate measures needed to get that talent onboard. But I'm not holding my breath.

Alternatively, license ABRP for use in your cars.
ABRP was purchased by Rivian a couple of years ago. Maybe that's part of what VW is getting for their multi-billion dollar investment. In the meantime, we're all lucky that Rivian hasn't taken ABRP off the market. They say that they aren't going to do that, and so far they haven't, but you have to wonder why they are continuing to invest in software that benefits their competition, and if they will continue to do so indefinitely.

Porsche Taycan forums show similar types of discontent.

It would seem that it’s not just a Genesis thing - it’s a “legacy mfr building EVs” thing.
NOOO! My current lead candidate for a next vehicle is a Macan EV.

There is a case to be made that value can be maximized for Rivian/ABRP by licensing out the software. They could make much more charging others for millions of units/subscriptions, rather than trying to keep it to themselves - with whatever limited sales volume they may experience.

Then by all means don’t go to Macan EV forums - what you don’t know can’t hurt you, right? 😉

I have always considered my GV60P as a slightly smaller Porsche Macan EV a couple of years before that vehicle was born. I just configured a Macan EV 4S which is the most comparable model. Picking only the most basic options, not upgrading the stereo, etc.; I came up with $ 94,000 US compared to a better equipped GV60P at around $70,000 US but I doubt anyone would actually be that parsimonious on the option list. I don't know about Canada but you will likely get much better service from Porsche but at a much higher price. In my neighborhood, Penske is building a much larger Porsche facility and you know who is paying for it:

This Penske dealership currently has one Porsche EV for sale, the model one below the 4S so the one with HP in the 300s. Nonetheless, the MSRP is $112K and this is what it includes:

"2024 Porsche Macan Electric 4 10 Speakers, 4-Wheel Disc Brakes, 8-Way Comfort Seats, ABS brakes, Adaptive suspension, Air Conditioning, Alloy wheels, Auto High-beam Headlights, Auto-dimming door mirrors, Auto-dimming Rear-View mirror, Auto-leveling suspension, Automatic temperature control, Bodyside moldings, Brake assist, Bumpers: body-color, Compass, Delay-off headlights, Driver door bin, Driver vanity mirror, Dual front impact airbags, Dual front side impact airbags, Electronic Stability Control, Exterior Parking Camera Rear, Four wheel independent suspension, Front anti-roll bar, Front Bucket Seats, Front Center Armrest, Front dual zone A/C, Front reading lights, Fully automatic headlights, Garage door transmitter: HomeLink, Heated door mirrors, Heated front seats, Heated steering wheel, Illuminated entry, Leather steering wheel, Low tire pressure warning, Navigation system: Porsche Communication Management (PCM), Occupant sensing airbag, Outside temperature display, Overhead airbag, Overhead console, Panic alarm, Passenger door bin, Passenger vanity mirror, Power door mirrors, Power driver seat, Power Liftgate, Power moonroof: Panoramic, Power passenger seat, Power steering, Power windows, Radio data system, Radio: Sound Package Plus, Rain sensing wipers, Rear anti-roll bar, Rear fog lights, Rear reading lights, Rear seat center armrest, Rear side impact airbag, Rear window defroster, Remote keyless entry, Security system, Speed control, Speed-sensing steering, Split folding rear seat, Spoiler, Standard Interior Seat Trim, Steering wheel mounted audio controls, Telescoping steering wheel, Tilt steering wheel, Traction control, Trip computer, Variably intermittent wipers, Wheels: 20" Macan. 107/89 City/Highway MPG"

I haven't driven a Macan EV but being a Porsche, I would be very surprised if it didn't handle better than my GV60P. But, once I replaced the tires with ultraperformance summer tires, I think the handling is close.

The joke on Jaguars used to be that if you wanted one, you needed two: one to drive and one for the shop. You could almost get two GV60Ps for an equivalent Macan. One of the GV60Ps will likely be trouble free for you :D

The Macan EV looks promising, but you’ll spend at least $30K more and I personally wouldn’t go near one for at least a year.

I literally just spoke to a Porsche tech whose personal Macan EV has been off the road for 90% of the time he’s owned it 😳

Brand-new platforms are challenging for any mfr, and triply so for legacy mfrs designing EVs…

After owning the car for 1.5 years, I'd like these things:

1. Manual battery pre-conditioning button so that I don't have to use built-in NAV
2. Battery pre-conditioning work down to 10% since 10%-80% road tripping is best. Currently, it stops when SOC is below 20%
3. Heated seats and heated steering wheel turn on with the scheduled climate control

I have had the car for three months and only driven it for five days when the drivers display worked. Why can't Genesis seem to fix this!!!

I would HATE that. I basically want to use LKA all the time, except when I have the turn stalk engaged. I use LKA without HDA for portions of almost every drive. I think the ability to engage HDA and LKA separately is a huge plus for our vehicle. In fact, I think in the future I would rule out any car that didn't allow lane centering to be engaged separately.
Agreed! My last car would only do it with the cruise and it was annoying.

There’s at least one small issue for those of us (old folks) who wear progressive lenses. The focal length of the upper part of our glasses is set for distance, and this works great with a mirror that reflects distant objects. It’s also great that the rearview mirror is up “high”, matching the upper part of the glasses. But when that mirror is replaced by a TV screen, that screen is actually a near focusing object that requires use of the lower part of the progressive glasses. In order to see the close TV screen, I have to tilt my head way up, messing up vision elsewhere. Very bad. The solution might be some sort of TV screen with a built-in lens that puts the image in a distant field.
My last car had a digital rear view mirror. I loved it for the wider field of view. Took a day or two to adjust to the focal distance thing, but after that I didn’t notice it. My wife didn’t like it so she’d flip it back to the regular mirror when she drove. It was my one regret when buying the GV60 that it didn’t have it, but definitely not a big deal.

Do you wear progressive lenses? I don't, but I can understand @noremacnova's point. On the other hand, as long as you can flip back to a normal mirror then it should be fine.
I always thought I would like the camera view until I got the GV60 and the camera view when I turned on the turn signal. I never look at it as it is too far away from my normal view. But as long as I can turn it off, sure.

No to the lenses. But like you said you don’t have to use it if you don’t like it. You just flip it back to regular.

Same.

Genesis Motors executives have been watching this community for years. They've also made improvements to their vehicles based upon what they've read here. They are listening to you.

This discussion will serve as a quick and easy way for Genesis Motors executives to gauge interest and help make decisions moving forward.

As a GV60 driver, you should state exactly what you'd like to see enhanced, added, and/or omitted from your Genesis GV60.

Any posts that don't stick to the subject matter will be moved elsewhere.
1) I always use the 1-Pedal option, so a way to keep it engaged as the default would be very convenient. 2) 100 miles more range!

And I prefer to drive in position #1 (farthest position to the right that one can go under auto) in auto mode. The car will default back to position #2. So my request would be to make the entire range optional for default to satisfy both of us.

The range is a tricky issue. I had three primary requirements that led me to the GV60P (power, luxury, small size) with secondary requirements of a HUD and buttons/switches instead of everything on the info screen. To get all of that one does give up range. My major dislike of the GV60P was the OEM tire (Michelin Primacy Tour A/S). I ended up eventually replacing all four tires with Pilot Sport 4S ultraperformance summer tires. I absolutely love my GV60P now but I definitely give up range doing that.

The current range is adequate for my purposes. Perhaps the best solution might be to try to extend the range of the RWD and Advanced versions but give the Performance version the ultraperformance tires knowing that they will negatively impact on range (and. BTW, noise as well). But shy of giving everybody an all do everything automobile printer, there is no solution that fits everybody.

I know that I would hate to give up performance for range. In my view the GV60P is a unicorn already and I would hate to lose some performance (Porsche Macan electric perhaps)

Where do you get those scent things for the passenger side? I've never seen anything available.

I don't know - but I went ahead and fashioned my own. Went to the local arts-n-crafts store (Michaels) and bought a block of 'wet foam' - it's green, holds water and you can put cut-flower stems in it. Used a bread knife to cut around the shape of the circular diffuser, snugged the piece in, and then doused the wet foam with the essential oil of choice (currently driving Peppermint). I have enough wet-foam to do probably 15 pieces so I guess you could rotate for a flavor-of-the-month thing - and then refresh with some add'l drops every 2 weeks or so.

Apparently it’s available in the KDM.
