  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Dear All,

I want to clean the controls in steering wheel " by using contact cleaner "
how can i open the controls ?
i tried to open the 4 screws behind the steering wheel and pulled the controls. but that didn't work.

any ideas ?

I don't have an answer, but be extra aware of the air bag when messing around with the steering wheel.

Traditional contact cleaner used for older TV or other type rotary rheostats, switches, and the like have some harsh chemicals that could affect today's plastic. Do you have a Fryes store near you? They used to have products that claimed not to damage window switches or buttons like I imagine is in the steering wheel.

Radio Shack products (if they still have this in their stores) may or may not be too strong.

If you can find a old time TV, radio, rebuilder, or electronics shop (possible ham radio repair) place. They might have something the right strength to buy.

Thank you DRS for your reply, but the contact cleaner i use is for electronics.
my problem is that sometimes when i click volume up button on the steering wheel it's not work .. and sometimes it's work with hard press on that button

Take it to your dealer

^^^^ +2 - I would not tear into a steering wheel that literally has a build in bomb in it.;)
