If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I've only caught a glimpse (once) of another Genesis in the 6 weeks I've had mine. Is anybody else out there?

I'm in Montreal and still not have seen on in 8 weeks

I'm in Ottawa too and haven't seen one on the road - including my own. I plan to get it end of this month. I'm getting a 3.8 with no packages. I'm curious what kind of deal you got? Did the dealer take anything off the MSRP?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I picked mine up on Wednesday and, except for seeing one parked at ScotiaBank Place for a hockey game, I hadn't seen one on the road until I merged on the 174 coming out of Pathway and was passed by a silver 4.6 w/tech. Talk about a coincidence!

Not really but I got an extended warranty for $2k cheaper (and a bunch of other stuff thrown in) which means the invoice does show $2k less than MSRP for a 4.6 w/tech. I know I really just ended up paying their cost for the warranty but it's still better than paying MSRP with nothing thrown in.

Re: Ottawa area (Does TO count?)

I'm in Bolton, just north of Toronto. Have not seen a single Genny on the streets except mine. My dealer says no V8s in Ontario until Feb.

3.8l V6 Premium Titanium/Black
Gunmetal Grey Painted Brake Housing
Yokohama W.Drive winter tires on factory 18" wheels
KDM logos and caps on order
Splash Guards on Order
Tinting TBD
Lighting updates TBD
Plus sized wheels this spring?
Performance Mods TBD?

I actually leased mine instead of purchasing it. I did manage to get the payments down by about 7% from what was being advertised on the web. Not what I would think of as a great deal but to hear the sales manager talk, I got the best deal of anybody who's gone for the Genesis and I should almost be ashamed of robbing them so badly. Uh hunh!!

I am having serious issues with the suspension on the Genesis. If anyone else in the area has a chance to drive along Albion Rd. between Lietrem and Lester Rds, please let me know how yor Genesis makes out. For myself, I find that is a brutal ride in this car compared to my old car. This is only one example - there are many bad roads in the Ottawa area and I'm wondering if any other Genesis owners are experiencing the same problem that I am.

I recently put winter tires on and there is a marked improvement in the ride just by doing that. I intend to deal with Hyundai regarding the stock tires that came with the car, there is no way that putting snow tires on a "luxury" vehicle should improve the ride over the stock preformance tires but that is exactly what I've experienced, and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone with this.

Now I have no idea what you mean by "serious issues" or "brutal ride" but I assume you consider the suspension to be be riding too hard or too tight.

I just noticed in another thread that you also changed the tire size when you switched to winter tires. That will significantly modify the handling of the car as you now have an extra inch of sidewall to absorb road inconsistencies.

The Genesis has a tight ride, and that's what it's meant to have. It's not just a luxury sedan, it's a luxury sports sedan. As uncomfortable as it might be for you a lot of people who've owned other luxury sports sedan actually find is a little on the soft side. There's just no pleasing everyone and that's what test drives are for.

Gimli:

Thanks for the response. It would appear that you are having a different experience with the Genesis. If you are happy with the ride you are experiencing with your car I'm truly happy for you.

For the record, I did take the Genesis for multiple test drives before ordering one. In fact, after one drive on which I experienced tire thumping over the tar strips, I went back and repeated the route in my then current car (99 Acura TL). Back to back comparisons didn't seem to be a deal breaker at that time. I chalked the difference up to the generally quieter cabin noise levels of the Genesis and figured that I would get used to it. However, what didn't come to light over the four or five test drives that I took was the slamming over bumps that I'm experiencing at virtually any speed. Driving into work in rush hour traffic is painful enough that I've changed my route. I'm sorry but I don't much care how tight someday wants their suspension, it shouldn't be so firm that you feel there might not even be any suspension when you're bouncing over previously unnoticed ruts and frost heaves in the road. The real issue is that when you cross a bump (or hollow) with the front tires, it seems OK but then there is a sudden slam that actually seems to happen too soon (someone else described it as being as if the Genesis had a really short wheelbase - and that's exactly what I'm experiencing.)

Maybe I need to go take a BMW for a test drive and see if people actually line up to pay a huge premium for the privilege of having the crap beat out of them on every bump they hit. Maybe I'm one of the uneducated masses that don't appreciate the joy of paying to be a masochist. I can say however that I have driven many different vehicles in my life ( I used to spend 6 to 8 months per year traveling and driving rental cars all over the world) and suspension was -until the Genesis - never an issue. Others may argue, but I suggest that the Acura TL qualifies as a "Luxury Sports Sedan" and I never had anything but a positive experience with the suspension on it. In fact it too had a multi-link system. The point is, does the car maintain it's composure over the bumps? In every other car I've driven, it wasn't even an issue. The real problem with it is that, every now and then I will hit a bump or a hollow and for just a split second, I get this feeling that I have no idea what's going to happen next. As a professional pilot with 33 years in the cockpit, I can tell you that is not a feeling I'm accustomed to, either in the air or on the ground.

At any rate, you don't have to take my word for it, Car & Driver Magazine started out their review of the 4.6 Genesis with the statement that they would not be using the term "sports sedan" in the article. Basically, they, like me, found much to like about the Genesis, but the ride was not given high marks. There are countless other reviews of the Genesis most of which don't have much nice to say about the suspension.

I suspect that I am like most buyers of cars like the Genesis, I want a car that has most of the newest techno toys, is comfortable and gets me to and from the places I need to get to in comfort and style. I expect the car to be responsive, but I don't want it to abuse me (that's what senior management at work is for). I also want a car that I can take a long trip in. My wife and I usually take a winter vacation in South Carolina. We typically drive 12 hours the first day southbound and frequently will drive 18 hours straight to get home. That was a primary reason for buying the Genesis, I expected that it would be a nice cruising car. Now I'm wondering what will happen when we get far enough south to pick up the Interstates that are made up of concrete with expansion joints. They were annoying enough in previous cars, I can't imagine what it will be like if it sets up the resonance issues that others are talking about.

Sorry, but the general consensus is that the Genesis is anything but a "Sports Sedan" no matter what the advertising says.

My dad's had one in Ottawa for about two months now?

Hi Vivienm:

Thanks for the reply.

I guess there are a few of us out there now, somebody told me the other day that Pathway has sold 20 Genesis and I know that Bank St has sold several. On the other hand even if there are 50 Genesis on the road in Ottawa that still isn't many in the grand scheme of things. I'm still waiting to see another one out there on the road.

Hope your Dad is enjoying his Genesis.

RW

I live in Montreal, West Island, and I still have not seen another Genesis since I took possession on Aug 29th.

Hi RW
Mike here - we met at Pathway when I was picking up my car. I do find the ride quite stiff, but not unbearable. I'm probably over-sensitive after reading all these concerns on here. Were you picking someone up at the airport at 7:45pm Monday? If not, there's another beige Genesis in Ottawa.

Hi Mike: Happy New Year to you and your family. No it wasn't me at the airport last week. So your doing better than me already with spotting other's with a Genesis. Other than a quick glance of one flashing by me in the other direction on Albion road several weeks ago, I still haven't seen another one anywheres except at the dealerships. I know there's at least one other beige 3.8 in Ottawa because I took one for a test drive back when I was just starting to look at the Genesis. I've also been told that they sold another Beige one with the tech package so that should make at least three of them in the area.

Glad to hear that you are finding the ride to be OK. I'm still struggling with getting used to mine. Took time off between C'mas and the New Year and have to say that - around town at least - the biggest problem for me seems to be at slow speeds in rush hour traffic. Hitting the bumps at normal speeds (at or around the speed limit) seems to be less of a problem than at rush hour speeds. My drive into work this morning, after 11 days off, felt worse than anything I'd experienced over the holidays. Maybe I'm just becoming allergic to work ;>)

Keep in touch.

I'm an owner in Nepean (Barrhaven area). Ordered my Genesis on August 18 (the first from Myers Hyundai) and received delivery on November 18. Leased a black on black 3.8 with Tech Pkg. Reading a few comments on the suspension and I would have to say my experience has been exactly what I expected, and I am quite pleased. A heightened sense of road flaws does occur under certain conditions, but I have not found the experiences numerous or disconcerting; this is the ride as designed. Definitely different from the smooth but floating suspension on my Buick - took a little getting used to. Have put the necessary snow tires on the car - Michelin Pilot Alpin with 17" winter alloys (Panic's from Fastwheels).

Hey BirdDog:

Glad to hear you are enjoying your Genesis, it is a spectacular car isn't it? The sound system with the Tech Package is the best sounding system I've ever heard in a car and the transmission/engine combo is incredibly smooth. I've never yet been conscious of a gear shift unless I'm specifically watching for it. I love the DIS system with the joystick and several passengers have commented on how clear the bluetooth phone system sounds.

unfortunately, for me, the suspension/ride issue continues to be an issue. I guess I'm slowly getting used to it because I'm now at the point where I occasionally will hit a bump and think, "hey it handled that pretty well" but then I'll the next one and think "yikes!! what the h*ll was that?"

There seem to be two camps out there, those that like the ride and those that don't with a few people in the middle. I'm stuck in the second group but am hopeful that something will come up to resolve the issue so that I can enjoy every aspect of this incredible car.

Keep in touch and let us know how things go in the coming months.

Cheers
RW

I have been driving my Silver Genesis 3.8 with Tech Package since 5 Dec.I drove to Toronto 28 Dec during the wind storm (70-90 km wind on Hwy 416 and the car responded well. I live in Orléans.

Hi to the owners in the Ottawa are:

It's been a while since anyone posted anything on this thread so thought I'd try to generate some activity.

Hope everyone is doing well, I still haven't spotted another Genesis on the road except for a quick glimpse of one that had a dealer plate hanging out of the trunk. I know there are several of us out there on the streets of Ottawa but we're still pretty unique aren't we?

If you get a chance, please post something about your experience with your car.

Were you at the corner of Leitrim and Hawthorne yesterday (Sunday) at 13:30? If not, there's another beige Genesis around. I haven't seen another on the road since Christmas but also spotted a black one in Montreal on Saturday.

Yep that was me yesterday. I figured that since it was a blue Genesis coming the other way, it was probably you. I noticed that you've addded the wing badge to the hood of your car, have you made any other mods?

Counting yesterday, I've now spotted another Genesis twice in the past 10 days. The other was a black one on Albion Rd.

Hope everything is going well for you.
