  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Ottawa area

I've seen a bunch of light-coloured ones... including, interestingly enough, one with diplomatic (red) plates.

I suspect that the one with the diplomatic plates belongs to the South Korean embassy. A friend's wife works at the Korean embassy and she mentioned that the ambassador has a Genesis.

Welcome to the club. Where did you get your car? Bank St., Pathway or Myers? Did you get a 2009 or one of the first 2010's?

There aren't a lot of Genny's in Ottawa as far as I can tell. I've started seeing a few now and then but usually just a glance as somebody flashes by. For the first time since I got my car over a year ago, I actually wound up following another Genesis on the road. I followed somebody for about 3 Km's southbound on Prince of Wales Dr and then we both turned west onto Huntclub for a block or two. Couldn't tell if it was a black one or dark blue since it was dark.

Hope you enjoy your car.

I got it at Pathway. It is the 2009 model - they were clearing them out for the 2010's and I was more than happy to take one off their hands.

Can someone enlighten me - what is the problem you guys are talking about here?

Canadian-spec 2009 V6 cars, along with early production US ones, are missing a trunk cover.

Basically, if you can see the underside of the subwoofer and speakers when you open the trunk, that's not how it should be. Hyundai designed a trunk that needed this cover (plenty of cars don't have one, but they also don't have speakers intruding into the cargo area), but then decided not to include it on the V6 cars.

There's a big huge thread about it somewhere else around here. In the US, Hyundai will pay for the part; in Canada it seems to be a dealer goodwill thing, or you can buy it for $250.

I bought our V6 from Pathway in early October. It already had the trunck cover. I imagine a lot of people would not like the looks of the trunk with the speakers visible. It only makes sense. If you want to sell the Genesis, don't have it looking cheap. Seeing the speakers would have given me second thoughts.

When was your car produced? (It's on the sticker in the door jamb)

I was at the auto show in Toronto in February, the V6 Genesis sedan on display was a November build IIRC, and it didn't have the trunk cover.

I wonder if Hyundai started throwing them in, or if Pathway did because they were tired of all the people asking for them once they found out about this site...

I have a light (Champagne beige) colored Genesis but with the weather the way it is tonight, mine was safely tucked in the garage at 7:00 while I was snowblowing the 20cm of snow that we had dumped on us today. So much for a green Christmas. On the bright side, it was impressive how well the car dealt with the snow.

Um, I'm not going outside in this snow right now just to look at the sticker. I'll try to remember tomorrow.

What winter tires are you using?

And what rims?

I'm using Continental's - can't remember the exact model. The rims are from Fast and have the Hyundai flying H logo - once again I can't recall the exact model. The Continentals are good winter tires but due to a mix up when I ordered them last year, I wound up with Ykohama's for about three weeks and they were actually a better tire. If I had to do it again, I would go for the Yoko's.

Alloy rims?

My dad has some from Fast (the only thing available last year, or so claimed Pathway), but they say Fast.

A couple friends of mine were absolutely shocked that it doesn't seem like steel wheels are available for that car...

Yeah last year was a bit crazy because of the new Quebec law making winter tires mandatoy. There were'nt many choices and they seemed to change every week based on what the dealers could get their hands on.

With respect to the rims, I wasn't much interested in steel rims given that here in Ottawa we have the winter tires on the car for close to 6 months of the year. For the extra few dollars I at least still have a decent looking car all year. I had picked what I thought was a really nice set of rims based on the choices that were supposed to fit the Genesis but as it turned out, the ones I liked didn't actually fit when they tried to install them/ The Genesis has pretty large brakes on the front and not many of the rims in the Fast catalog will fit. I think there were 4 choices last year at least one of which didn;t work.

My wife saw a black Genesis driving down our street the other day. Our street is a little dead end street with only 39 houses on it so I know what everyone is driving and this is a first. This car doesn't seem to belong to any house I know of although there is one house up for sale. Maybe a prospective buyer has this car. I saw a black Genesis on a connecting street to ours yesterday. Maybe the owner of this car lives in our neighbourhood.

I see a Genesis now every few days in the Ottawa area. I guess there are more and more of them. The last time was last evening. We were at the New Dubrovnik restaurant on Carling Ave. There was a light coloured Genesis in the parking lot. I'm not sure of the exact colour. I wonder if that could have been you, rmwweb?

I am having serious issues with the suspension on the Genesis. If anyone else in the area has a chance to drive along Albion Rd. between Lietrem and Lester Rds, please let me know how yor Genesis makes out. For myself, I find that is a brutal ride in this car compared to my old car. This is only one example - there are many bad roads in the Ottawa area and I'm wondering if any other Genesis owners are experiencing the same problem that I am.

I recently put winter tires on and there is a marked improvement in the ride just by doing that. I intend to deal with Hyundai regarding the stock tires that came with the car, there is no way that putting snow tires on a "luxury" vehicle should improve the ride over the stock preformance tires but that is exactly what I've experienced, and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone with this.

Please let me know what you think.

HI, I eave in Gatineau, I imported my Genesis 4.6L/TechPack last spring. I experiment the same problem regarding the suspension. It is really bumpy.

By the way, I am still looking for options regarding winter tires. Should I put 17" or 18"? Where is the best deal?
