  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Someone ran a red light yesterday and took out the front of my G70. :(

I'm ok, but the car is not. No airbags deployed, though.

That SUX!

Dang, I have the same exact color and wheels. I've often thought if anything happened to my baby, I'm not sure I could find a replacement. They're just so rare.

Glad to hear you're okay; sorry to hear about the (probable) total loss of your car.

oh man, that looks ugly. kinda like what happens to Immortal Joe at the end of Mad Max Fury Road.

glad you're OK, and like Aquineas says that could be heading to a write-off. too bad, you clearly kept you're car is nice shape!

So you think it's probably totaled? It wasn't a really high impact hit, I had just started moving forward when the light turned green, and was probably only going 2 mph. It just ripped the front end off. No airbags went off and it was still running, though leaking coolant. I guess I'll find out soon enough. I love this car and am not sure what else I'd replace it with.

I am no collision expert, but I think it's probably 50-50. All body panels from the windshield forward, possible frame damage, obviously the cooling system, $1500-2k for the headlights alone.

I just got off the phone with insurance. Yep, total loss.

The bad news is you have to find another car you like

The good news, you don't have to worry about driving a potentially problematic car.

Hope it works out in the end for you.

^ you're actually a bit low for the headlights. some ass-hat backed in to me late last year - he said he wasn't used to driving a car with no backup camera. yeah, that didn't fly with me either. nor did him not hearing my horn or seeing me in his mirrors. it's not like my colour isn't obvious enough. we had a fun "chat", although it was quite one-sided.

i needed a new bumper cover and passenger headlight assembly among other bits and bobs. that headlight part alone was $3k CAD. my overall damage seemed relatively innocuous overall, but the tab came to $8300. i was floored when the shop gave me the invoice - which was covered by the other guy's insurance of course.

so if this cost $8300 CAD i'd have to say the OP is looking well north of $20k USD.

Holy smokes!

The way the supply chain issues are right now, parts are probably harder to get than cars. Even if your car is easily repairable under normal circumstances, the insurance company might not want to take the risk of the repair taking 6 months, or longer, waiting on crash parts.

^ true. my simple repair took 7 weeks...and that was after they had received "all" of the parts. once they tore it down they found more parts needed, which took many weeks to come.

that's the issue for OP - even if the shop orders what they think they need, there will be other unexpected parts required and that will take a undetermined amount of time to arrive. it's the fiddly bits that take more time than you'd think. weird little brackets, braces, etc, can be tricky to source and procure.

Agreeing further. My repair last year took either three or four months (I forget which).

I know you were already told so, but in a crash like that the suspension and subframes would basically be totaled even if the car looks fine from most other angles. It's sad, but for the best that the car gets written off so you don't have to deal with the structural frame issues.

Based on the extent of damage to your vehicle, we've determined it to be a total loss.

Repair estimate is $27,064.50

Sorry man, what a pisser. Since dealers are jacking up prices for new Genesis cars these days, be interesting what the valuation is? I’d press hard to be sure you get enough to obtain a replacement less the existing depreciation amount with mileage. If new Genesis cars are going at $3k above MSRP, insurance needs to add that into the total price so you get closer to being made while again. Expect a fight on this I bet. Good luck and glad no one was hurt.
