  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

P0841 code 5.0 R Spec

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I been on this forum and had 4 Genesis vehicles in the last 11 years. Fortunately each one of them have been trouble free, my two cents has always been: enjoying these things, without a basic active warranty, is simply playing Russian roulette as I have observed that 999/1000 of the time one will be fine, however, it is that 1000th person’s luck seems to run out more often than not...
Hey I have a question for you, what is the ESC disable mod for 2013 r-spec? I seen you had it listed on the list of cars and mods you own .thanks in advance

The video above demonstrates the mod very well...

‘Electronic Stability Control’ complete disable, was a nice challenge to solve back in 2009 for the 4.6 V8 and once again for 5.0 2012+...

The 2015+ 5.0 V8 traction can be sufficiently disabled to have a bit of fun without going over board, so I left that one alone.

Ya the car has no problem brake standing burnouts lol with traction control off
The above mod is for more if you want to power slide the car around

It's also half the secret to a good launch and 60 ft time, it seems to severely weaken or even disable the torque management. Simply turning off the ESC on my 2014 R-Spec and trying to launch or even roll into the throttle quickly on concrete is embarrassing, the ESC mod fixes that. You'll not dead hook but even better, you'll slightly haze the tires. Smokey 100 ft burnouts are fun but they are hell on tires. On a normal street tire and even drag racing tires even if you aren't burning the tread off you're destroying the chemical composition of the rubber changing everything about it.

I bought my 2012 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R Spec exactly 2 weeks ago. Car performed great for a week and then suddenly on the highway one day the transmission went nuts. Sliding in and of gear, slamming into gears on up and downshift. Engine light on by the time I limped her home.. P0841 code. We wound up at the dealership and they updated the car with TSB 14-AT-001. Car still shifting poorly although it's no longer sliding out of gear. It does however over rev between gears and hits hard on what should be gentle downshifts when decelerating at 40 mph or so. Occasional harsh up shifts as well and she seems to get lost between gears under acceleration. I am taking her back to the service dept. tomorrow, I'm thinking we will replace the Trans fluid pressure switch. I purchased the car with just 63k miles and a clean Carfax.. it is a extremely nice vehicle and other than this issue everything works as it should. For the first week I can say with a very good amount of certainty that I was very impressed by her and happy with my purchase. A great combination of Luxury and performance. Unfortunately it is not warranted and I am paying out of pocket to get the car back on track.. a tough pill to swallow when I just purchased her. That said, I am up for the challenge and want that happy feeling while driving her back ! Any advice I can get from you good people/Genesis owners here on this forum is greatly appreciated. The dealership will likely try different things as we go and it could get expensive. I'd love to get to the heart of it instead of throwing good money after bad. Thanks for your time and effort, I look forward to your responses. Rick.

That sucks. I'm sorry to hear of those issues.

I have a 2013 R-Spec that I bought with 22k miles. Unfortunately, I have replaced the transmission at 63k miles, again at 74k miles, again at 120k miles, and it is in the shop right now for the exact same reason at 137k miles. This was the first time the tranny has every slipped on the freeway for me. That was ridiculous.....it slammed back into gear HARD and my check engine light came on right after. This will be my 4th transmission and the 5th one for the car. The car will start by slipping gears, usually 2-3rd gear and it will eventually start to get worse. Another thing mine have done is when I put it in "Park", I would hear a slight delay and then it would bang into gear. Also, at lower speeds I would notice that the tachometer was actually going backward instead of increasing in rpm as I was accelerating. It feels weird.....not sure how exactly to describe it. It is different than when it slips a gear and the rpms rev up to 5k.

I can't believe I still have the car but like you said it good luxury and performance. I also like that nobody has them and not many people even know what it is.

Good luck

dude I hope you didnt pay for all that...Reason I purchase my vehicle is because Ford dealership was willing to warranty the car for 20 years or 200k miles...in which I hope my transmission fail in between, lo and behold, 500 miles off the dealership lot the transmission broke, they getting me a used one so hopefully it'll last.

So just for clarification you are an owner of a Genesis correct if so what model. I'm trying to be as informed as possible as the mechanic that replaced my tranny and has my car right now can't understand what's going on(he's not on these forums). As you may know through experience many transmission mechanics outside of Hyundai Genesis dealerships are unfamiliar with the Equus. I found a 2014 Equus tranny online with 12k miles on it for 850 dollars. I'm just wondering can this be used in my 2012 as appears not much changed from 2012-2016 with theses cars powertrain.
Did you ever install that Equus transmission into your Genesis ?

999 of them are bad...

I am having the code P0841 on my 2012 Genesis 5.0 R-Spec. Shifts rough. And slipping. Do you think it is the clutch pack or the solenoid causing this? I have 185,000 miles. I will put in Lucas stuff as a hail Mary.
