  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Permanently Disable Auto Start / Stop

I also don't mind it that much - and now that it's winter and cold here, it very rarely ever turns off because the outside temperature is too low. Yesterday was the first day it was above 0C (32F) in 57 days!

How was it to install? I was considering this but had reservations about taking off the front panel
It's a PITA to remove the panel. It sits there so tight, I was afraid, I would break something there. Hopefully, I was able to pull it out slightly, and plug it in.

That's what I was afraid of. Is the installation by only removing the side panel not possible?

Some guys said they were able to put their hand in from the side panel and plug it in. I couldn't.

Just curious, what is it about start/stop do you not like? This seems to be a feature that many feel very strongly about.
My first car that had it was a 2012 BMW X3. The start/stop was very noticeable and there was a distinct lag accelerating from a stop. I did find that very annoying.
I have an 2018 Audi Q5, and the start/stop is hardly noticeable.
Same with the GV70. Maybe I've just gotten used to it?
It's really annoying. I bought a module to disable it on my 2022 Subaru Crosstrek.

I simply took a black tab (mine was from a bread wrapper, but guitar pick, anything like that will work), trim it down to about 1/2 inch, and insert it into the edge of the Auto Stop. This will keep the button depressed essentially turning it off. You can take it out when you want (maybe a warranty claim) and but it back in. To me, this is way easier and less expensive than buying something and taking a panel off (though I don't think that is very hard, this is just easier).

I've tried this as well but felt like the button was sticking a bit when I took out the shim, so I'd personally be wary of doing for long term

I just installed the connector from AliExpress following the video below. It was really easy. You do NOT need to remove the panel the auto-start button is in. Just pull back the rubber door trim, remove fuse door, and pop out side panel reaching in the fuse panel hole. Everything was easy except getting it plugged back in which just took some time to align the connector with the port it goes in. Really very simple.

Works great. 2 seconds after engine start, button automatically "pushed". Suppose it would be nicer if it remembered the last setting, but this is good enough.

Awesome. Thanks for the link!

How annoying can this feature be? I press a series of buttons when I enter my car. More in the winter.

$40 and 30 minute install to make the car behave more like I want it. That's a success for me, but everyone has different priorities...

I have the GV80 and the installation is very similar. The problem I have my hands are too large. I can only one hand close but not close enough to get to the back of the switch. Anyone know how to remove the switch panel with all 3 switches?

Unpopular opinion on this thread buuuut … this was the first car I’ve owned that has the auto stop feature and I hated it at first. Tbh I still don’t love it but the auto stop timer you can scroll to on the dash made a compelling argument. Granted I live in LA, but after owning the car for ~14 months, the auto stop has kept my car from idling (and burning $$$ gas) for a whopping 32 hours(!) in total. I didn’t believe it at first and started to audit the timer, but was surprised to realize that those traffic lights really add up. I do wish there was better programming for the rocky start that occurs when you have both auto stop and auto hold engaged.

Random PS: I also wish this forum had a filer to only view posts with photos … I love seeing everyone else’s GV70 build/mods!
The only time I notice auto stop is when I'm using auto hold otherwise it doesn't bother me.

Guys...stop messing with your car, risking costly damage and perhaps making it less attractive to another driver when you want to sell it. Here's a really simple method to "permanently" disable the auto start/stop feature: Press the switch that turns it off.

Just like pilots, you already have a pre-start and post-start checklist. Just add "press the auto start/stop switch off" to that checklist. It takes less than 1-2 seconds and requires no fiddling with the car's integral systems and thereby possibly voiding the manufacturer's warranty.

You need to be cancelled!!! :ROFLMAO:

Some guys change the radio station 20 times an hour, but can’t find it in their hearts to press the ISG button once per drive

I have to say that the ISG works smoothly and flawlessly in my ‘22 Tucson. My ‘19 Santa Fe decided to disable it permanently itself about three years ago. That works great as well. 🤣

Curious about auto start. At times, can't put my finger on it, but the video display comes on and rpm is shown.
I also notice the car doesn't always auto off/start, like when cold out for one.
I think if the battery is low, or
If it is not warmed up, it will stay running.

Just installed the AliExpress module - $58.30 CDN (at mid February exchange rates) shipped. I went in through the front door and as @dareckibmw said popping the switch panel open was the most nerve wracking part. That said a max 10 minute job start to finish.
