  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Pet peeves about the Genesis

Automatic Locking: The Genesis works the same as my wife's 2006 Elantra. If you unlock the doors with the keyfob and don't open any door for 30 seconds, they re-lock themselves. This is a safety feature that assumes you unlocked them by accident. Other than this, the car does not lock itself. Has anyone tried leaving the engine running and walking away with the key? There is a long beep to warn you the key has left the car but I wonder if there is a maximum distance or time before the engine will turn off.

I've asked that question before, and the response I got was that it will continue to beep but will not shut the engine off.

My pet peeves are all intermittent problems that the dealer can’t or will not take the time to repair.

1. The steering wheel does not always return to the preset position.

2. The steering wheel voice button does not always work. Sometimes you have to push it 2, 3 or more time to get the ping. Sometimes you give up after so many pushes and don’t use it.

3. Voice commands to the Information System. The voice system will repeat the command, but will not perform the command.

4. The rear sun shade will go down and then up while driving.

5. The rain sensing wipers will sometime work with the first drop of rain and sometimes not work at all. They will sometimes work with the first drop, you stop at a gas station for a cup of coffee, shut off the car, when you get back in the rain sensing wipers have stopped working and the rain fall has not changed.

6. My wife has two. She can't start the car from the passenager's side and the ride. We purchased this car because she didn't like the Max ride. She wanted softer.

The beeping stops at about 15 feet. The engine continues to run and the doors remain unlocked at about 100 feet. There may be setting in the Information System. Try doing a word search in the manual.

Hi,
New here, and overall really appreciate the vehicle. It is nice for the money(4.6 black tech).

I have to agree with some of the peeves in this thread.

My biggest complaint stems from the lexicon audio system. Often, when playing from my Ipod at sustained levels above 25, the system cuts out and won't work for a few minutes. It should work regularly to 35, as that is the max. This can be pretty frustrating....and leads me to my second complaint regarding service thus far.
I took it to the dealer, and was told that it needed something for the amp, as it was malfunctioning. They told me that it would be ordered, and I would be able to have it installed within a week. It is now 6 weeks after that initial visit, and, after not being contacted back for a few weeks or having my repeated calls returned, I contacted the parts manager. He was nice enough, but informed me that the part was on backorder. It still is, and after being told it was on rush priority over a week ago, and giving Hyundai USA a piece if my mind, my lexicon system still lacks full functionality. I don't expect premium-level service, but expect accountability and what I pay for; to work.
This probably doesn't apply to most Genesis drivers, but it is an issue to me as I enjoy my music loud when I drive.

Otherwise, my biggest pet peeve is that someone backed into me at the university 3 weeks into owning it, and didn't bother to stick around. Go figure.

I just experienced another pet peeve yesterday, it was at least the third time that I've unlocked the hood while releasing the parking brake. It doesn't take much pressure to release the hood if your foot hits it.

You're not the only one. Someone at Inside Line also had this complaint: http://blogs.insideline.com/roadtes...ai-genesis-sedan-pop-goes-the-hood-latch.html

Personally, I never set the parking brake unless I'm parked on an incline, which is rare. Is there some benefit to setting the parking brake in an automatic car when it's not parked on an incline?

Each time you set the parking brake it automatically adjusts the rear calipers. It's a good idea to use it, and it's possible to have more even wear on the pads.

1. Does not load address book in Bluetooth
2. Navi requires that you enter the street then the city
3. Seat should be lower

2. Navi requires that you enter the street then the city
At least on the Technology Package, if you invoke the GPS via voice command, it asks for city first, then street--which helps out considerably.

The rear sun shade will go down when you are in reverse and then go up when you reach 15KPH. If you want this to stop, simply select the shade down using the toggle switch on the drivers door and it will stay down and not cycle again unless you select it.

(I hope I am doing this right.) I have a 2012 Genesis 4.6 That I traded a 2011 MB ML350 on. I am beginning to lose confidence in the Genesis due to 3 things. 1st is the dealer whose service department cannot keep an appointment but then there are the other two items concerning the car itself and I am wondering if anyone else has had these problems.
1. at around 5K miles I noticed the paint on the driver side door sill started wearing off. I get in the car butt first and my right calf, (pant leg not shoe),rubs here and has quite smoothly worn the paint off.

2. right about 9K miles the seat belt started fraying and looked like a GM car at 200K miles.

These were both fixed by the dealer but it still makes me wonder about the quality.
Has anyone else had these problems?

Nope, paint is pefect and mine has 78k+ milles. 2011 purchased new Sept. 2010. As an aside, my wife has scratched the chrome on the door handle with her diamond ring, she did the same thing to my Mercedes. Its from the ring getting turned to the inside on her finger. My point is that we all should watch how we treat/use things and pay attention (which she did not do).

And who bought her that diamond ring....

I can't believe you had that many problems! I am sorry to hear that. Just like everything in life, sometimes you get something that wasn't quite right out of the factory. Sorry to hear about your troubles

I have the same problem with the driver's seat belt. It frayed severely at 6K. I haven't pointed this out to the dealer service dept yet. I hope the dealer will repair/replace under warranty without argument.

1. Does not load address book in Bluetooth

The problem is your phone. I used HTC EVO 3D and LG Spectrum and both work fine for downloading phone book to Bluetooth. LG Optimus S doesn't work because it is an old phone.

Here is mine:

1) Can't use lighter plug when car is turned off
2) Can't stream BT on Tech package car
3) Passenger seat height
4) 2 plugs for proprietary iPod adapter (most cars just use USB now)

You have a USB.
