I'm somewhat disappointed to see that the G70 gets more leather on the interior than the G80 Sport. The G80 Sport does not have a full leather dashboard where it looks like the G70 does. Also, the upper portion of the doors look like they are leather in the G70 and again, not in the G80.

Few things I noticed about the NA model:
- dome light/sun roof controls does not have the blue lighting strip as seen in some of the Korean model reviews

- passenger seat does not have the driver side adjustment buttons seen in several reviews

- rims look much better in person than in pictures

- back seats are a bit difficult to get in and out of due to the limited toe room (have to twist foot sideways)

- overall materials are excellent and everywhere you would normally touch in the interior are padded with soft touch materials

Nice! The G70 is definitely a handsome looking car. Thanks for taking and sharing those pictures, along with your thoughts on the interior.

i'd like to see a picture of the adriatic blue. most photos are of the mallorca blue which is much brighter. i did pre-order the mallroca, but may change to adriatic. not sure if i could live with the bright blue over the long term. i'm on the fence...but i have time since the 6MT models do not arrive until later this year.

From the photos on the web site, I don't like the Mallorca blue all that much. My G80 is Adriatic and like it much more. I think it is a deeper richer color.

G80 has considerably more room in the back than the G70. G80 is 4990 mm long vs G70 being 4685 mm long (1 ft shorter). The G70 is almost as wide as the G80 (1850 mm vs 1890 mm).

Those are the base Synthetic Leather seats in the 2.0T Advanced. The Elite/Dynamic, Prestige, and Sports all have different seats.

Rear seat room is okay. I had a 6'4" customer sit in front of me and I sat behind him (I'm 5'11") and I had about an inch of kneeroom left but my toes were tight. There are two subwoofers underneath the two front seats, which take up some room.

Adriatic picture here. IMO, Mallorca is a much more stunning colour than Adriatic for the G70. The G70 loses too many details with Adriatic Blue whereas Mallorca Blue highlights the aggressiveness of the G70, particularly in Sport form. Adriatic is a much better colour for the G80 and G90.

Yeah, toe room is consistently mentioned as the rear seat's weak link. And I think it's a significant one for more than just a short ride. I've not been in the back of a G70 but I've been in other cars with this same issue. It really doesn't much matter if you have more knee and head room than you need, when your feet feel cramped by the seat cushion and rails. I think most buyers will recognize this limitation and will treat the car essentially as a two-seater for longer rides with the rear seats being okay for kids or for pretty short hops. That would suit me fine. Most of my cars have been two-seaters. But for a lot of folks, a back seat that's kind of a bear to climb into and out of, and that isn't particularly comfortable for the passengers' feet during the ride, may not be appealing. I (actually, my wife) had a BMW 323 a few years ago. It was one of the smaller 3-series, 4-door cars. But its rear seat didn't have this issue. It's one thing for the climb-in to be a killer on a 2-door coupe and quite another on a 4-door sedan. I just think this will reduce appeal for a significant number of potential buyers. For every 4-door we've ever bought, the primary filter was how getting in and out of the back felt. If it was a hassle, then that essentially undercut the motivation for considering a sedan over a coupe. Since I really regard the G70 as a "personal car" for use either with just the driver or driver-plus-one on board, the rear seat issue doesn't bother me that much; but I'm not sure how many will feel similarly.

They definitely could have been more adventurous but the G80 Sport is quite attractive inside with the copper stitching/perforations, carbon fiber trim, and black suede headliner.

No doubt it absolutely is. I love my G80 Sport. When I had my car in getting the Xpel clear bra I was given a G90 loaner which had the full leather dash and leather on the upper parts of the door. I thought that was a very nice touch and really highlighted the car as a luxury car. The G80 is not exactly a low end car and in my opinion should also have the full leather. Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to return car because of it but it would be nice to have. I guess seeing it in the G70 now kind of seems odd given that is the smaller, less expensive car.

The Australian Genesis launch has been delayed from April/May to sometime in the 3Q - wouldn't be surprised if we see something similar timeline-wise for the US launch (my hunch for the delay would be getting the dealership issue in order as much a possible; something Genesis Canada didn't have to deal with).

Kinda inevitable that the latest and newest model gets the better interior (as well as the latest tech).

Granted, imo, the G80 should have had a better interior to start w/, but the Genesis/G80 was before the Genesis as a separate-lux-brand days (so had more of a value-proposition).

While wishing they had (the dash design is looking even more outdated) likely figured (1) it wasn't worth the cost (for a relatively low volume model) and (2) esp. as the G80 replacement was to be fast-tracked (but seems like development of the new platform is holding things up, so won't see the new G80 as early as initially planned).

I actually did compare it with the G80 Sport right next to it in the showroom.

Sitting behind my driving position in the G70 (I'm 5'11), I can still fit in the back seat without any discomfort. Head room was adequate and my knees had about 2-3 inches before touching the driver's seat. Toe room was minimal since there's not much of a gap between the floor and the bottom on the driver seat. The rails for the front seats are spaced narrowly so you are kind of forced to place your feet close together. The toe room is probably the biggest weakness in the G70 because it makes it difficult to get in and out of the back seat and harder to stretch out and get into a comfortable seating position. The middle seat will not fit an adult because the hump takes up quite a lot of space.

The G80 felt like it had at least double the room in the back seats and was much easier to climb in and out of. The pano-sunroof also helps to make the interior feel roomy and spacious.

Overall, I wouldn't mind being a rear passenger in the G70, but if I had to choose one for longer trip I'd go with the G80 every single time. But that's not really a fair comparison as the same choice will hold true for any mid-size vs compact sedans when it comes to rear passenger room/comfort.

That’s a better opinion than I thought I’d get. I’m also 5’11 so it’d be the same. A buddy has a 3 series and I hate the back seat. I’m weird so I’ll sit in my backseat (Genesis) and envy anybody who gets to sit back there. I love the back seat of this car. I’m not dumb enough to let anyone drive it unless alcohol is involved, which is rare. Enjoy the car man, it’s a great company and I’m glad you get to share the beginnings of their brand.

I was willing to give it a go when it got to the showroom in Rapid but the dealership lost rights to Genesis. I probably won’t drive one until I move back to Ohio at the end of this year/early next year. It seems that is was like my G35. The leg room was adequate, the foot room was lacking. I sat low so that may of had to do with it but still, not good for some folks.

Thanks for stopping by the boutique to check out the car. I think your evaluation of the rims and rear seat space of the G70 and G80sport is pretty much spot on. G80 is a considerably larger and heavier car (I see DJ has already given some dimensions in one of his posts), so it logically has a much more spacious rear seat. However, as others have noted, the G70 is right on target for matching virtually every dimension of the benchmark for this model - the 3 series BMW.

I really do suggest anyone in the region who hasn't seen the car in person come and check it out. It's an incredible machine - even if they had priced it for $5-10k more than it sells for.

Remember, too, that not only is the G70 four model years newer, but Genesis has an entirely new design and engineering team for this new wave of vehicles. Specifically, Luc Donkerwolke, the former lead interior designer at Lamborghini (and Bentley) is the man behind the new interiors coming out. When I met him at the official launch of our store a couple months back, he spoke about a number of the details he wanted to work into the cars. The Nappa leather in the the G70 3.3T Sport, for example, is an extremely high grade, and sourced from a high-end Italian furniture manufacturer.

That's just the way the industry works. Time stands still for no-one, and the trickle down effect is very quick. I mean, $15-20k cars now come with as much tech as a 5 year old S-class Mercedes! I'm glad you still appreciate your G80 Sport interior, though. It really is a great place to spend time, and the quality is outstanding for sure.

And almost forgot to say - congratulations to the OP on the new car! That Himalayan Grey is without a doubt one of my favourite colours on the G70. Both elegant and aggressive looking - outstanding choice!

Since I spend a considerable amount of time in my car I enjoy having a nice interior. My car is less than a month old and I have 2500 miles already with another 1500 or so being added in the next 10 days. I also really like the Himalayan Gray, which is what I got for my G80 Sport. My wife and I really love this car. We drove my old 2012 Sonata 2.0T for a fairly long drive over the weekend and while still a very nice car, there simply is no comparison. But the Sonata was a better choice to haul the new canoe we just picked up.

That's some solid mileage! But it's great to hear you're enjoying it, and why not drive it? G80 sports look fantastic in Himalayan Grey too. And yes, Sonatas are great cars in their own right, but definitely not a comparison with what you've got.
