  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Pics of my G70

Himalayan Grey is one of the best colors for the G70, especially with the red brake calipers, graphite wheels, and red stitching of the Sport. I keep on trying to order a Himalayan Grey or Mallorca Blue 3.3T Sport for myself but I always have to give it up to customers as both colors are highly in demand at my store.

Congrats again, OP. Your car is beautiful. Enjoy in good health. :drinks:

I tried to buy my G80 Sport in Himalayan Grey but there just wasn't any in the Northeast. Great color!

I really thought about waiting for a G70 and getting one of those instead. Just didn't quite have the room or cylinder count I was looking for. ;)

Regardless, it's a Genesis, and a nice looking car indeed!

However, as others have noted, the G70 is right on target for matching virtually every dimension of the benchmark for this model - the 3 series BMW.

However, the new 3 Series has reportedly grown 2.36 inches.

Cadillac, for the ATS, benchmarked the E90 3er - which was a mistake, as by the time the ATS was launched, BMW had already started production of the larger F30.

The most common criticism of the ATS has been its lack of rear passenger space compared to the competition; something that the 2G CTS didn't have (which, in fact, like the Infiniti G/Q50, had more interior space than the norm for the segment).

Cadillac will replace the ATS with the new CT5 which will grow once again to around the size of the 2G CTS.

Now, maybe Genesis consciously kept the size of the G70 where it is in order to maximize the handling/performance, but as we have seen w/ the ATS (as well as the Jag XE and Alfa Giulia), the majority of luxury buyers place such attributes lower on the list (willing to sacrifice some handling/performance for more space/utility).

Part of the reason why the G80 has done as well as it has is that it offers more rear passenger space than the norm for the mid-size segment (and hence, adding to the value quotient); have concerns that in not doing so will hamper sales of the G70 somewhat in the US market.

But at the same time, probably is a good thing that Genesis didn't simply offer a 4-door version of the Stinger (there's more differentiation btwn the 2 models), but an inch or so more rear leg room would make a difference.

Going back to the whole G70 having a nicer interior and more amenities than the G80, that's pretty much unavoidable w/ regard to timing.

For instance, many think the Civic is better than the Acura ILX as it sits on a more modern platform and offer tech that the ILX doesn't; it'll change when Acura redoes the ILX.

It is true that G70 rear space is not great but isn't it targeted at a different type of buyer? For people with a demand for greater rear space there is G80 and G90! I feel G70 is targeted at an audience focused much more on driving dynamics so would not be constantly ferrying 4 people around.

^ While that's true, can't put the G70 in a vacuum simply along w/ its larger siblings.

The G70 will have less rear passenger space than much of the competition - the A4, the new 3 Series, the upcoming Cadillac CT5, the Infiniti Q50; and the C Class replacement should also grow in size. And then there's also the Stinger.

Adriatic picture here. IMO, Mallorca is a much more stunning colour than Adriatic for the G70. The G70 loses too many details with Adriatic Blue whereas Mallorca Blue highlights the aggressiveness of the G70, particularly in Sport form. Adriatic is a much better colour for the G80 and G90.

^ good points, and i know what you are referring to. i will try to take a better look at both colours with your thoughts in mind. i have yet to see a G70 in adriatic blue. most shots are mallorca blue, white or red. makes sense since they are the flashier colours and make for the best marketing photos.

I'm not sure because in Korea you can get a 2.0T Sport with an automatic and it looks exactly like a 3.3T Sport - whereas in Canada the 2.0T Sport is manual only.

There is a lot of truth in this but where I think they dropped the ball was the space for your feet. Most of the complaints isn't so much the seating area but you sort of have to ram your toes under the seat and then you can't move them much. So it's going to make it feel more cramp then it really is. I think they should of put more focus into giving your feet more room.

Does raising the front seats up give you more toe room in the back?

Yes I raised up my driver seat and there was a noticeable improvement in toe room

Hey Whoishomer

What trim of G70 did you get ??

What are your initial thoughts??

He is either really sharply dressed, or auditioning for {The Matrix 4/The Last Jedi II}, or both.

It did feel cramped in the back. I hope it does not affect the G70 sales that much as I don't see a solution until next iteration ~4 years away? Maybe raising the front seats will do the trick in the meanwhile as others have said.

Some potential buyers will view the G70 as a "personal car," primarily for occupancy by the driver alone or the dirver plus one passenger. I pretty much fall into that category. Others will want a car that can accommodate a couple of other adults for rides of moderate duration. I think my wife probably falls into that category. For folks like my wife, this will substantially reduce the car's appeal. If I decide to get one, I'll probably trade my wife's Outback and have her use my current (and newer) 2015 Infiniti QX50 as her daily drive. It isn't as roomy as the outback but has a decent-sized rear seat. That would relegate the G70 primarily to me, with her using it occasionally when she isn't going somewhere with more than one other person. For many, that usage pattern will be too restrictive and they might simply look for another car. Even for us, if my wife feels strongly that we should have a car that can more easily accommodate four passengers, the G70 may not make the cut.

It's unfortunate. It will reduce the potential market. Families, for example, may be concerned that, as teenage kids grow, it's going to get progressively less comfortable for them in that back seat.

It seems like something that could have been avoided. Head room and knee room are usually the more challenging because increasing them means increasing the size of the car. But foot room, it seems, could have been thought out better. But that ship has sailed. Ah, well. Every car has some compromises. We'll just have to see how this particular one impacts the G70. I wouldn't be shocked if the car enthusiast in the family mentions to his or her partner that the car is a four-seater without necessarily going into the details of pinched toes in the back seating positions, or encouraging them to jump back there for a test ride.
