In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hi guys I haven't slept in days.. I bought my 1st car it took me 30 years of my life 2 buy 1...
:( I never had the luxury of buying a car my parents could never afford it when I was in highschool always walked & bus everywhere i saved & saved until i new what my Dream car was & that was a Hyundai Genesis 2012 3.8
I had it for 3 years bought it 100,000km used payed alot for it i loved this car. But recently I had an engine failure i was driving & it shut off on me super dangerous loss control luckily didn't crash into anyone was stuck 4 hours waiting 4 a toe truck with 1% battery life on my phone. I heard engine rattling than it siesed on me 1 day prior i took it 2 dealership to get engine oil because I stayed ontop of maintenance & repairs i got a new alternator, battery, replaced sparkplugs did everything they told me to keep it going... I haven't slept in days since the dealership told me I need a new engine i can't afford a new car cause I lost my job due to the pandemic. What do I do? The Hyundai dealership said they found a used engine they can put in it to bring it back to life but i dont know much about cars is this a good idea how long will this take... I need advice please & thank you. I miss SEGA is it worth it cause every other car used is a downgrade should I gamble get the used engine put in I was hoping to have this car till I was old & grey. PROS & CONS off engine swap.

Is this legit?
You say you had it at the dealership the DAY BEFORE the engine seized (almost always for no oil pressure)?????????????
If so, it would certainly seem that THEY forgot to refill the oil or left it dangerously low at a minimum. Or left the drain plug loose.
In either case, the fault would be THEIR'S and the replacement engine on them.
IF that is truly the case.
What does the dealer say caused the death of the original engine?
Depending on what happened you might want to talk to an attorney, they have a way of getting dealers off their butts. And they will consult for no charge typically and tell you if you have a case or not.

A used engine can certainly be a viable alternative if this is on you. But not cheap to buy or install typically. Did they give you a price?
We put a used motor in my sons Saturn 4 years ago and it's still going strong. The car was in great shape so it was worth putting some into the motor to keep it on the road.

Just picked up an engine from MyAutoStore. Always recommended them in the past to fam and friends. I was able to grab a 126K $1600 w/shipping. They post on eBay also so make sure to keep an eye on there eBay account. I seen how much it was on there site and on there eBay you can put in an offer. They countered twice before accepting my bid on eBay which was just a little cheaper then the site. 6 month warranty also with the option of an additional if you want. Also make sure to call because they get new stuff in faster then they can post. An they test. Hope this all helps. In reality the engine I just got would’ve fit your car for the price I paid if that helps lower your stress.

I appreciate it, my concerns are since I don't know much about cars & that putting in a used engine is the cheaper alternative for me due to my situation so I can get back to work Am i in the right hands with the Hyundai dealership to swap the engine for me. To me it's just unknown territory this is the option they put on the table for me they want to help me get the car back on the road because they know it has sentimental value to me & I do wanna see it come back to life.
1) Did you do it with the dealership or did you do it with your own personal mechanic?
2) How long do you think this will take am I am looking at 2 weeks to month without a car, roughly how many labour hours does it take ?
3) What is the succes Rate/is it worth trying ?
4) Since you've done the engine swap how has your car been since? Did you get alot out of the new used engine.
Sorry for all the questions I am just trying to figure out what to except...

They said the bearings went out usually that means not enough oil or lubrication in the engine but I did get the engine oil swapped when it was time to service it this happend a day or 2 after I picked up my car the engine siezed. Realistically I think who ever work on my car did cause it but it's easy to point fingers harder to prove they where at fault I asked them they said they checked the oil levels & said everything was fine. I get its my word against there's but how can I prove that they at fault.

The problem is that when I noticed something was not right with the way the engine sounded it was Sunday & the dealership was closed I told myself maybe I should take it back on Monday but sadly my car didn't make it when I was heading home it died on me too little to late :(

As already mentioned, check that the dealer did not cause the problem by being careless. At least check the oil level.

You may get a better price from an independent shop. Used engines and rebuilds are common so you should have a good car again once done. Hope it works out for you in the end.

I’ve never been a fan of the dealer but it’s probably because I’ve been around cars for a good bit of time. I can understand all the questions so no stress. Let me run through them as you asked. When it comes to used engines it’s like any business. You want to find the right ones. Used engines are a great option for people and I can understand the fear that comes with buying a used engine the unknown. However it’s like buying a used car and you have many great used cars on the road. Things to look for when buying a used engine. Reviews and most recent at that along with how many. Do they have a grading system on parts. Do they test the engine before they ship. Is it backed by a warranty and how long is it backed. What’s included in the warranty. Who pays for shipping. Things like this are great to understand. I’ve definitely blown some engines in my day 😂 for a good bit of time I was blessed and had two buddies with a shop but those days are gone where we could sit abound for 10 hours and drink beer and start her up. Talking older Honda and Toyota. But my point is that I’ve always gone used. I just blew the 3.8 about a month ago but the price was high so I waited to pull till the other day. I got a buddy that works in a shop but it’s not his not I can’t help 😭 but I am getting a good rate and they like beer 😂 I worked at a dealership and honestly they make up their own times so good luck and they charge an arm and a leg. All my donor engines have been accepted into the cars I’ve put them in without issue. So 💯 The new engine is still in transit and when it arrives we’ll give it a good look over before doing anything with it. This really is the first part. Making sure you have a good engine. Since he is doing me a favor it won’t be there long in the shop but private shops for the most part are pretty fast about turn around times. Like finding the engine make sure your finding someone that’s put one in before an this case a Hyundai and has worked on Hyundai. Don’t be afraid to ask questions because you keep the lights on and you should remember that. If don’t understand just say you need them to brake it down Crayola style 😂 I’ll keep you posted on my engine since it’s in transit and it’s the same one you needed in your car. Good luck and hope this helps.

Hi thank you iam going into the dealership today to talk #s You blew the engine recently at what KM did you have the car & at what KM did it go if you don't mind me asking? I been going down a rabbit hole I don't wanna burn bridges with the dealership because they have been pretty good to me for the 3 years that I been going to service with them. So as much as I know they could of easily f**ked it up iam sure I had my part in blowing the engine too I had a lot of fun with this car its 333HP to some that's nothing but for a stock sedan 1st car that baby moves when it's working. I wish I signed up to these forums way earlier. In conclusion I think I got the answer I was looking for from your experience you've blown many engines & putting a used engine is common to me its new territory especially so soon didnt expect it i guess thats what i get for being a late bloomer & no experience with cars in the past. If I wanna keep this car which I do I guess gambling with a new used engine can't hurt other than my broken heart & wallet. I don't have the luxury to take it to a personal mechanic but maybe after I swap this engine at the dealership I will try to find a private mechanic to work on it in the future. To 100 000km More

What’s the word?
The Dealer Found me a used engine 103, 000KM on it, $2000. Now iam just waiting... feels like a eternity. I talked to them they ordered it on Friday. Now I guess I gotta wait for it to show up at the shop.
1) Are they going to pull the old engine out same time they get the new engine or B4 they get it?
2) I am wondering how long will it roughly take once they get the engine labour wise & what to expect.
3) What happened with your Engine so far did the swap go good? I asked when did yours sieze/blow @ how many KM?

Man this is so sad/scary I hope everything goes good iam out of a job, I don't even know how iam going 2 pay my bills, now this I gotta put myself in debt... hope it will be successful so I can get back 2 work. :( FML

I expect that they will wait till the used engine is here and verify that it looks good. They wouldn't want to tie up a bay and the lift equipment until they know they will be done in a day or two.
If yours is like the 2015 and up, they will have to remove the engine and transmission as an assembly, unmate the current engine from the transmission, mate the replacement engine to it, and then put them back in the car as an assembly. Of course, a bunch of other parts have to come off and go back on to do this. If you had the money, this would be the time to replace a number of those parts that are wear items.

Not the same thing at all but my Miata had engine replaced at 92k miles. Used engine and guaranteed for 12 months. Now years and 28k miles later still running strong and when I sell it soon it will be an advantage compared to other 120k mile engine/vehicles for sale.
So many decisions in life involve some trust. Hoping the dealer found a quality replacement and trusting their folk to do the job correctly will likely give you a long future life and an enhanced value.

Thank you so much it's hard 2 trust when everyone telling me 2 blame them but I have faith that they will get me back on road soon than you so much :)

Ya it's a 2012 genesis 3.8. Ya it was the long weekend they got the engine in in Monday but I don't think they even started to be honest so iam hoping this week they will cause of the holiday.

Hey did you get a chance to read my reply & questions I asked you about your new/used engine that you pulled & put in?

Just wondering how long will this roughly take the dealership..? they told me it's a 10-12 hour job but it's almost been a month 😅 I know they got other customers seems like people who bought new cars are more of a priority than someone with a used car but I been taking my car there for 4 years. I don't wanna rush them I want them 2 do a gj but at the same time I feel like are they even working on it.

It wouldn't hurt to call them and ask for any updates.
