If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Good Day Everyone,

I'm PhorenReign, a relatively new member here on the board. I've scoured this forum many times looking for owner satisfaction commentary/ratings -- in an effort boil down my car search.

Originally, I was deeply considering the Equus after I saw it parked outside of the local Ravens bar. The Equus was very attractive, however after checking one at the local Carmax I decided, it wasn't my time for it yet. Also while at the carmax, I just so happen to cross paths with an R-Spec...thething was seeexxyy and classy.. it was at this moment i decided to give hyundai a shot.

So.. i'm currently talking with a dealer that's trying to get rid of some inventory.. and within that inventory i'm looking at two Genesis, of which one is 2011 3.8 premium with 17K mi, and the other a 2013 standard with 33.7k mi on it.

My delima:
the 2011 is fully loaded, and has less miles.. BUT i'm it's at the 5 Year mark -- and I don't know where that puts me with the Warranty.. while powertrain might still be covered up to 10/100k ... other nuances like electrical components will not.. and i've read many threads where folks have complained about one thing or another regarding their electronic components.

the 2013 is standard (which i don't mind), but it has 33k .. and i plan on driving these cars .. " My first car purchase--after graduating college, and now working--starting a career" .... I kind feel like i'm in the same situation with both.

Could you guys lend me some advise, which is better deal.. are they priced well?.

By the way:
2011 is going for $23.9k (INTERNET price)
2013 " "$22.8k (" ")

Is the 2013 a 3.8 also?

Do a little research on Edmunds dot com or KBB dot com. They can tell you the cost of owning the car.

Me personally.. I would go with the 2013 for the following reasons:
1. Was the 10 yr 100K warranty was in place back in 2011? If not, go with 2013
2. With the 13, u know u will have over 66K miles of coverage.
3. U also get newer tech stuff (The Genny went through a mild refresh in 2012)
4. The 13 just looks better (IMO).

Yes they are both 3.8L's .

The 2013 = no navi or moon roof :-(

however lower monthly payment :-)

I don't know what type of warranty they can offer on the 2011 ( 17k miles)

If you get a CPO car from a Hyundai dealer, the 10 year / 100K drivetrain warranty is included. Otherwise the extended drivetrain warranty is only available to original purchasers. This is standard Hyundai warranty terms. The dealer has to pay Hyundai Motor America some money to cover the extra warranty when they sell a CPO car. Obviously, this extra cost gets passed on to the buyer.

If the 2011 has the Technology Package (DIS controller right behind the shifter), then it has a lot of electronic gadgets and high-end sound system that has been known to have above average number of problems, and would cost a fortune to repair out of warranty (which is only 36 months / 36K miles on those items). Usually, a Hyundai extended Platinum warranty can cover this up to 10 years or 100K miles.

The 2013 has a more compliant suspension than the 2011, which might matter if you drive on rough roads. The suspension change was made in 2012.

There is an after market NAV unit that can be installed on Base Trim models for about $1300 (http://unavi-usa.com/Hyundai/X2_GenSedan_09_13.php), but you can also get a portable Garmin for $100.

If it matters to you-- I bet the 2013 is a former rental car. Might be worth looking at the Carfax on it.

Normally, that might be a red flag, but not sure if it is in this case. There are a lot of Genesis owners on this forum who have redlined their car, probably much more so than the average rental.

They are asking silly prices.

I paid 16k for my 2013 with 39k miles. This was direct from Enterprise rental. You can buy the warranty for $1500 or less.

Another member paid 17.5k for the same car with a bit less miles and a good warranty.

If you look on autotrader or cars.com, there's tons of examples to be found with 18-20k asking prices.

Print off some comparable ads from other dealers and tell them to beat it (the price) or no deal. You will find out their best price.

I do live just outside of a city. So i some across both good, and bad roads. The suspension of the 2013 sounds like it could handle the rougher terrain a little better, but it's not fully loaded like the 2011 :-(. Handling is just as important me, i'd like a fund care to drive as well as having a few bells in whistles..

They just gave me the warranty quote today which i thought was a bit expensive.

Warranty for 2011 @ 17,000 Mi is $ 2,300 : This dealer didn't disclose what kind of warranty he just said " This is the wrap up warranty "

The fully loaded 2011 Here >> This is the one with the $2300 warranty.

EDIT: They're offering the above 2011 for 22,981, of course with the 2300 dollar platinum warranty I'm looking at 25,281.

and this is the 2013 here

That's way high for the HPP extended warranty. You can get it for a little more than half that price from Jim Ellis Hyundai in Atlanta.

That is not the fully loaded version. That is the premium package and the fully loaded one has technology package (DIS system, HID headlight, etc.).

I don't know how much experience you have buying cars, but the price of real estate and cars is always negotiable. Never pay the asking price quoted by a car dealer (new or used). Never.

Do some research about the wholesale/trade-in price (what the dealer paid), and what the actual average retail selling price is, and start negotiating.

I don't have any mark. But I've been trying to get them to reduce the price by 900 or so. The claim this is the best they can offer... won't move any further. they are priced well with range of kbb,Edmunds, and other sites.

With the 2.3k warrant the price is at 25.2k and some change. I browned the official hpp site and the 100/10 with no deductible goes for 3k and some change. Off the lot they're saying it's 25,003 for the.2011with 7015mi

I go in tomorrow to try to close a deal

I'm closing my dealership in December, but you probably wouldn't like it very much. My prices were cheap to begin with, and almost always non-negotiable. Had a decent business, but closing for a better opportunity.

If you are buying from a small independent and dealing directly with the owner, you'll get a better experience not beating them up for a few hundred books.

A big franchise dealer.... Game on.

So your boy bought the 2011 Genesis Saturday evening, and I must say I was tired as hell after everything was all and done.

Of course I was delighted to drive the Genesis off of the lot. However I do have some qualms about the experience... dealer wanted to run credit again ---eveb thought I showed them my approved loan certificate from the credit union. Upon leaving in the new Genesis I noticed they didn't bother to fill the gas tank.. seesh

And here's the worse thing of it all today they dam nav unit froze twice. The second time I had to turn the car off for 15 min for it to reset.

I want thank everyone that provided solid information. I happy with the 3.8L Genesis so far, she rides very well. Note this is a step up form the 4 Cyl V-Tech honda lol, so it'll take some getting use to.

I'm stillt rying to get the Navigation unit address, still only 1 st day of ownership the thing froze on my twice. maybe i'll start another thread for that.

I think you should get back to the dealer immediately about the nav. If you're not within the 3/36 coverage it could cost you a small fortune to get it fixed.

I've had the Genny for 2 weeks now. It's finally back at the dealership so they can address the navi problem. They said it would've cost 5,000 or so... don't think i should come out of pocket for something that was broke upon purchase. 150 point inspection should included an extended drive so they can see these things. The car also needed
