  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Okay, another new one for the forum.

While I almost always have some audio source playing in the car, on rare occasions I do drive with all AV systems off. In the last two weeks, I'm hearing a very subtle noise from the top of the driver's window, just as though it weren't completely shut. I've tried "rolling" the window back up a number of times...with the "auto up" feature, without the "auto up" feature, and even by "helping" the window along with my fingers.

All to no avail. It sure seems like the window is not creating an effective seal.

All of which begs the question: has it always been this way, or has something changed? I had my windows tinted a couple of weeks ago, so I went back to that outfit today and asked if there was any chance that the window slipped out of the track, even slightly. The install guy said he doesn't touch the track system, but rather just pulls the inner door guts out so he can get the film all the way to the bottom of the window. Taking his feedback at face value, the tinting job is not the culprit.

Since I'll be visiting the dealer next week for the ECM update and various other odds 'n ends, I'll have them take a look, but I thought I'd tee this up here. When you get a chance, please shut off your audio sources and check to see if you perceive this same "not-quite-shut" phenomenon with any of your windows. Thanks...

Musher51,

I usually have some sort of audio on too but on occassion, I will leave everything off. Today I had a coworker in the car and turned everything off to demonstrate how quit the cabin is and did not notice any noise coming from the window.

On a separate note, I was not aware that the tint shops had to take anything apart to tint the windows. Glad I was not there to see it or it would have made me nervous!

Good luck and let us know what the dealer says..

Assume you checked the top seal with the window down to ensure no 'scraps' or other detrious are 'stuck' up in there that might prevent proper seating when the window goes up. :)

Yup. I ran a doubled-over pipe cleaner along the upper channel and didn't find anything. I'm still hopeful that a minor track adjustment by the dealer will return the cabin of my Genesis to it's former "church-like" quietness. I'll keep y'all posted.
