  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Possible Collision Avoidance Malfunction

I'm not sure if this is relevant.... but a couple of things I noticed on my G70.

The car always comes to a full stop when I have smart cruise control engaged. Today, someone slammed their brakes on the highway (in the left lane three cars ahead of me) and it caused everyone to hard brake. My car's collision warning system came on and the car slowed down on its own before I took my own action and continue the braking motion. No accident, luckily.

However, several times now, I've noticed someone in front of me veering right and the collision warning system will come on, but the car does not stop.

As with any technology... it's great to augment your driving safety, but it shouldn't be relied upon as a substitute for your full attention ;)

Sounds like the windshield replacement may have affected your sensors.

Correct, it may warn but if the parameters are not met it will not brake.

And yes, agree you are still the one in control,or should be.

The G70 uses radar from the front grill AND cameras in the windshield assembly for both SCC Smart Cruise Control and FCA Forward Collision-avoidance Assist.

I know that windshields these days have so much tech connected to them, it takes proper calibration to ensure the sensors are working properly.

I doubt that dirt is causing your malfunction and would guess that it’s a defective module or more likely, something related to the new windshield replacement. Had a similar issue with an Acura and the windshield replacement needed to be done by a specialized shop.

During my last few morning commutes I've experienced a weird malfunction with my car. I am guessing it's related to the collision avoidance system, but am not certain as to what is going on. What I have seen happen is the car suddenly slows down and there is a fast beeping indication to notify of something happening. This is odd as both times this has happened the road has been completely clear in front of me. This goes on a second or two and then the car returns to normal operation. I haven't seen any notifications pop up to tell me exactly what was going on either time.

The timing of this is very bad as my family intends to be travelling a good chunk of next week, starting with an out of town appointment tomorrow. I'll certainly need to have this diagnosed asap, the last thing I need is for this to happen and not go away, effectively immobilizing the car completely while we are travelling, or to have the car suddenly slow down for no reason and end up getting rear ended. I just had my windshield replaced recently, so perhaps the camera is malfunctioning intermittently.
If you have your cruise control unit will
Act like this if you close to rapidly
