  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Possible new owner

After re reading.
The lex is a great STOCK system but it dont thump like a wigger on crank.
To replace it would be counter productive.
It's like hearing a concert vs a loud but poorly sound engendered bar band.

+1

Ah got it. Anyone know the size of the base headunit? Thanks in advance. Also, is that blue screen problem still a problem in 2012? One last question, the audio warranty is 36 months long, correct?

Thanks happy New Years.

The head unit is not viable on the dash, only the controls are viable on the screen. Not sure how he got a double-DIN unit installed in the Genesis dash, but I am sure it was not easy.

Yes, audio/video/GPS warranty is 3 yr or 36K miles, whichever comes first.

I'm sure there are some vehicles out there that haven't gotten various problems fixed. That's the fault of the owners for not following up under their warranty.

Yes of course. I like the best audio systems in my car, and do not like how aftermarket change the appearance of the interior. Especially on new cars. When looking at cars, is there a way to test to see if the head unit will die soon, or is on it's way out. But hey, at least it's not as bad as the 2002-2005 bmw 7-series headunit hehe.

One thing you should know about the '12 R-Spec (all Genesis with Tech package) is that it cannot stream Bluetooth audio. Yes, it does connect for BT phone use.
All other non-tech package equipped models do stream BT audio.

Lol are you serious? For one that streams music EVERY car ride, that was a blow. I guess I'll just have to snatch up my auxiliary cord from my legacy when I trade over. Would love the luxury of not plugging it in. But one thing that helps is the area where I will be able to store my phone in the arm rest. Won't have to leave it on a seat.. So they give it the more powerful sound system but not Bluetooth streaming. Shame.

Hello, I've been looking at a 2012 Gensis 5.0 r-spec, and I just have a few questions. What oil does the car use? Can't find a page which tells me and I haven't looked in the owners manual when viewing the car. Any common problems? I know the trans is abit slow on shifts, but is it smooth? I'm young, so I believe the r-spec suspension will be better for me. How do you all like your current cars(3.8 or 5.0)?

Thanks guys!

I am a happy owner of an 2012 R-spec purchased early December 2012. It is just over a year old now and I have just over 5K miles on it. Haven't had one problem with it so far but did get a map update as the one in my car was a previous version when delivered.

I have not had the oil consumption problem reported by some owners nor have I had any issues with the transmission. I also do not hot-rod the car. I have had two instances where the radio would not power on after a brief stop but they were both months apart and the problem has not reoccurred so has not been reported. In both cases everything operated normally after the car was shut off for awhile.

I expected this car would steer quicker than it does and to date that is my only real complaint. It simply steers too slowly. There are a few other things that could be changed but they are personal. The location of the rear seat heater switches as they can get turned on accidentally too easily. Another is the blue lights on the dash switches which, unfortunately, my eyes cannot read. I live in Phoenix and so the nav system isn't a huge benefit which is good because it isn't the easiest nav I have ever used nor is it highly accurate. I do not like the DIS system but don't use it much so no problem there. The audio system is great and I am able to take advantage of my favorite radio station here which is digital. I do not use streaming audio but do use the Bluetooth connection to my cell phone. I do not use the voice command but find the manual switches work just fine.

Some things I could do without include the rear shade, dipsy-doodle rear view mirrors and lane departure system but they were standard. I have used the adaptive cruise control several times but I am not comfortable with it so don't tend to use it. It has not malfunctioned however.

I bought the R-spec specifically for its suspension but it is difficult to tell the difference between the 3.8 and R-spec aside from the low profile tires on the R-spec. The engine power and performance is outstanding and the gas mileage isn't bad if you use some common sense when driving. Cabin and trunk space are generous and quiet and very comfortable to drive and ride. The standard headlights are the best I have ever experienced on any car.

The transmission is a bit slow to downshift upon WOT but that may be a safety measure as the car accelerates very quickly and could catch a novice driver by surprise. I have no complaints though.

The Genesis is more car than I needed but I bought it anyway and really like it. Like any vehicle it has little things that could be improved upon but overall it is the best car I have ever owned and I am happy with it. Time will tell if it also becomes the most reliable car (previous personal record was a 2000 Avalon which I owned for 11 years and put 95,000 miles on it with not a single failure of any kind). The Avalon was given to my daughter and is still going strong at over 130,000 with just a valve cover gasket being the sole repair.

Oh, about oil.....I live in a hot climate six months out of the year so I use Mobil-1 10w-40 full synthetic. I tend to care much more about engine wear than gas mileage and am wary of those very thin oils when our ambient air temp is over 100F.

I am very grateful that you took the time to write that detailed review of ownership of your vehicle. The points in your post have been noted. Thakns!

We use the adaptive cruise control everyday and it is flawless. The auto wipers work great. we use the nav dis system several times a week and find it easy. Also the voice control feature is great when you need to pay attention to traffic. Turning response is also a function of what kind of tires are on the car.

Your adaptive cruise is flawless? Uhmm, not in my case. Mine is 2012, yours 2011, mine 5.0. So the cruise should be same I would guess.

The 2014 Equus is perfect in my book. Anticipates the cars ahead perfectly. The Genny is a mess. It hammers on the brakes after sexing up to a car in front that is going slower. If a car pulls out in front and is going slower, it hammers the brakes way too hard in attempt to be exact in the space between the car in front and me. It also accelerates hard then slows down hard as the traffic changes speed. It does not "go with the flow".

Does your exhibit any of this? Do others experience the same thing? I believe its attempt at perfection to keep exact distance in one second, not a safe gradual adjustment is most the issue. The 2014 Equus has almost a AI like mind. Also, why the Genny sees the car in front (the display shows it) that is going slower way before the distance selected, yet runs right up to that distance and slams on the brakes is beyond me.

BTW... Love the Genny. One of the finest rides you can get. It just feels right, and always puts a smile on your face. And with the 5.0 is in top tier of sedan speedsters.

IF you are in snow area.. The Blizzak LM-60 turn the Genny into a down low snow mobile. Only way to stop it is too deep snow that packs under the chassis with the non SUV ground clearance.

No, mine reacts in a more gradual manner and we drive in Atlanta traffic everyday on I85, I285 and 316.

Thanks for the info on the cruise control, mates. Luckily for me, if mine reacts like stated above, it will not bother me because I do not use cruise control frequently. I am sure I may be one the youngest on here(all you grannys on here, haha just kidding!) I do use it when I drive back to school in PA or back home in southern New Jersey on the shore, but not all the time(mainly if I want to conserve fuel).

This is good to know folks. I think I will make a stop to the dealer. Maybe mine needs a firmware update or adjustment. If it would not race up to slower cars and jam in the brakes. And adjust to traffic much smoother, it would be a great system.

Yeah, I know the S-class has a nice system of it. Believe they were the first to have it also.

Looks like I'll be in a Genesis soon. My Legacy Head Gasket is annoying me with how much oil I need to put in...

Go for the R-Spec and don't look back. I'm not young (by any stretch) but I feel ya' about wanting and awesome sound system with a butt load of power on demand. The 2013 will have a MUCH better ride if you can find one and afford the difference in price. However, I don't think you'll be disappointed in a 2012.

sounds like stone is living right... mine does the same as yours. and, like you, i love the car.
