  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I did some work on my '15 3.8 Ultimate that required unhooking the battery in the trunk. Of course, the trunk lid was up to give me access to unhook the battery ground terminal. After re-hooking the battery, everything but the power trunk works as before. I currently have no power trunk function to either open it or close it. I've checked both trunk fuses in the trunk compartment. Both test good. The lights on the trunk control buttons no longer come on. As it is now, the only way to open the trunk is to use the key. I can close the trunk by slowly pushing it closed and when it gets to the latch, the power latch function pulls it closed.
Any ideas?

Could the work have effected the trunk function. What was the work being done that required the battery to be disconnected?

Thanks for the reply. I had to remove the steering wheel air-bag to take the steering wheel off and install a new turn signal stalk with a fog light switch.
Only the stalk has been replaced as of now. No fogs installed yet. The switch seems to work in that the dash indicator illuminates to show the fogs being on. Everything else on the wheel and all the switches on both stalks are functional.

from the manual:

To reset the power trunk
If the battery has been discharged or
disconnected, or if the related fuse
has been replaced or disconnected,
reset the Power Trunk as follows:
1. Move the shift lever to the P (Park)
position.
2. Close the trunk manually.
If the Power Trunk doesn't work properly
after performing the above procedure,
have the system checked by
an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

also check the trunk lid button in the glove box:
Trunk lid control button
When the trunk lid control button is
UNLOCK (button not pressed), the
power trunk can be controlled with
the power trunk main control button,
power trunk open, close button, and
the smart key.
When this trunk lid control button is
LOCK (button pressed), the power
trunk can be controlled using the
mechanical key of the smart key only.

Thanks Canuck, At this point, I'm down to suspecting the glove box trunk access button. When I press that button, I get no mechanical indication that I've done anything. No click or detent feel. I push the rubber boot and feel a bump at the bottom, but nothing moves to tell me I've done anything. On your car, can you tell you've done anything when you press the lockout button? Also, would you mind checking to see if the lights on the interior trunk buttons work when the trunk lockout is active?

canuckv8u - Thank you very much for the fix for the auto truck function. After reading your post I remembered that I had pushed the glovebox truck button a few days ago. So, as you instructed that was the issue, I just needed to push the glove box truck button. The luxury of communication & having a great forum as we do. Thanks again my Canadian Friend. Dan

Thank you very much. Just had my battery replaced at advanced Auto and had the same problem. They were perplexed. So I googled it and your instructions worked perfectly. 2015 3.8 sedan

Thanks Canuck (from one Canuck to another hehe)! Just replaced my battery for the first time and was wracking my brain to see what I could have done to mess up such an easy procedure. Then I thought to google search and whalla! Well done!
