Guys, please note that I too am a G70 owner, and I'm coming from a place of honesty and acceptance. I've rented a few 3-series vehicles before as well, and in casual daily driving, the G70 is near indistinguishable. I believe this is what Genesis engineers were aiming for. They wanted to make a solid, excellent-handling vehicle that delivers on a well-balanced package of safety, technology, performance, and luxury. To that end, they succeeded: It is an
excellent all-around vehicle. But the M340i manages better performance with better fuel-mileage.
The weak-points of the G70, as we all know, are fuel-economy, engine NVH, and when compared to the Big 3, performance, particularly off-the-line. In particular, we all know that initial acceleration compared to the M340i, the S4, a to a lesser degree, the C43 AMG, is deficient. This appears to be a deliberate decision on Genesis's behalf,
probably to preserve elements of the drive-train.
For all the things Genesis does well (and even excels at comparatively), in stock form, because it loses in acceleration, for whatever reason many people disproportionately assess based on that performance delta.
That G70 vs S4 vs C43 AMG video has almost a million views, and illustrates all-too-clearly the performance difference, and how in everyday driving, what would (most-likely) happen in everyday driving scenarios. In other words, meeting or exceeding those targets in performance would open the door for people to pay more attention and perform more nuanced comparisons. But many won't even get to those nuanced comparisons while there's a performance delta.
Now we all know that a JB4 can change that outcome (at the expense of a warranty), and that Genesis could very easily tune the vehicle differently from the factory. The truth is they don't, and until they do, the adolescent part of the decision-making process of many will go for the faster vehicle with the "better" brand name.
