  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

It may be me, but for the life of me, I can't seem to figure this out: the locks on the passenger doors (front and rear) will not unlock using the key fob, door handle buttons, or unlock buttons in the car. The only way I can unlock it now is manually from the inside by pulling on the locks themselves. This just happened recently (have had the car for 2 weeks).

They will all still lock fine (power lock that is), but only the driver's door will power unlock now.

Is there a setting that I can't find or does this sound like I will have to take the car back to the dealer to fix?

There is a setting to unlock all or only the driver's door with one click (fob or door). If only the driver's door, you need to click the fob / door button twice to unlock everything. Could that be the culprit?

Unfortunately, that doesn't work. I've changed the setting and neither 1 or 2 presses work.

Even if I press the button on the passenger door handle, it only opens the lock in the driver's door....

Must be VooDoo. :D Seriously, sounds like there is a problem. Time to visit the dealer.

Is it cold where you are? I have had this happen when it is below 10 degrees.

So to follow up on this issue, took it to the dealer. The service rep went to check it out before writing up the service request (you know, to make sure it wasn't an idiot owner issue). Thankfully he came to the same conclusion that there was an issue. Technician checked fuses, etc and had to call into Hyundai's tech line for additional guidance. At the end of the day, they said it was a wire that needed to be realigned. They straightened the wire and that solved the problem. The dealer billed Hyundai $288 for their time.

I have the same problem on my 2016 Genesis 3.8 AWD sedan. Did anyone contact you with a solution?
Thanks.

Sorry, read further about the "wire" issue. Made an appointment with the dealer.

I had a similar problem on a Honda Pilot about 5 years ago and the dealer tech told me that one bad door lock mechanism can make other doors stop working too. He changed the passenger front lock and they all started working again. Don't know if this transfers to Hyundai.

Anyone else have this issue? My 3.8 15 ultimate developed it today.

I have had 3 door locks fail. First one (drivers side rear) had the actuator assembly replaced by the dealer about 6 weeks ago, now the drivers door is failing and scheduled to be replaced. Today the passenger front door lock stopped functioning completely on my 2015 Genesis Sedan 3.8 AWD.

I am really not too impressed so far with these types of issues. If they continue, I may consider replacing the vehicle.

My wife car has the same issue with the Drivers Rear Door. The door can not be opened from the inside nor the outside. Hyundai or the extended warrenty is refusing to fix it, since they said it looks like the car was hit on that side previously [there's no documentation]. Im trying to rip the backseat out. I already removed the passenger door panel to use as a guide.

I have now had the actuator replaced on 3 of the 4 doors for the same reason. Doors failing to lock or unlock. Check with your dealer, you may have the same problem.

So I've got the same problem. Pas. doors won't unlock - except manually.

How did you resolve this?

I am a used car dealer. Right now on my lot I have a 2010 Genesis sedan with 94,000 miles. Both doors on the left side would not lock or unlock with the key fob or with the lock switch in the car. New lock actuators fixed the problem.
I also have a 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe where the passenger side front door will not lock or unlock with the key fob or interior button. Again, a new lock actuator fixed the problem. I have sold other Santa Fe's where I had to replace lock actuators.

Apparently, Hyundai has a problem with their lock activators. I buy them online, but be careful, the OEM number is different for the Genesis sedan versus the 2 Door. I have paid $69 for a driver's door lock activator for the Genesis, but the Hyundai lock actuators run around $40 - $42.

Good Luck!

I have a 2018 Genesis G80 sport and my driver side passenger door can't be open from the inside or outside. It will lock and unlock, but will not open. Looks like I'm one of the lucky ones they got hit with the Genesis door lock curse. Taking it to the dealership on Friday.

If anybody has any other suggestions, I am open. It really stinks having to walk all the way around my car to get my jacket from the passenger side.

this worked for me. here is the video on how to do it.

You just made my day! Your solution in the video worked! (Of course it did!)
Such a relief to me.
Thank you!

Gee... I wonder if that would work on my malfunctioning front parking sensors, that work when ever they damn well please....!

I have a 2012 Genesis Sedan 3.8 and my fusebox is on the lateral side of the dash and does not have the same wire connectors as shown on the video in this post. Where do I look for the same "fix" by unplugging and replugging the specific wire plug? thanks.....
