If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. It's gotten pretty cold in my neck of the woods and I've noticed a problem with my remote climate start through the Genesis app. The problem is...it doesn't work anymore. It used to work, but gradually I've gotten more and more failures until recently when it seems to never work at all. It doesn't matter whether I use the presets or start without presets.

Here's the kicker: the app tells me "climate start was successful." If I check the vehicle status in the app, it says climate on. But if I re-check one minute later, vehicle status says its off again. Then, when I arrive at my car, nothing is running, it obviously has never been on, and no heating of any kind has occurred. Additionally, after attempting and failing to use the app to pre-heat, I swear the car doesn't heat as well as usual and I've even noticed a rattling noise coming from under the hood, almost like the failed climate start messed up the heat pump.

For the record, remote start via my key fob seems to work just fine (but it doesn't start my heated seat or steering wheel, argh!). I've done a reset of the head unit. I've deleted and reloaded the app. The problem persists. I can't remember if it started after a software update, but it does seem some of you are an update ahead of me (I've got wireless Android Auto, but that was the last update I've received). I have not gone in for the most recent ICCU recall yet.

So, here are my questions:
Has anyone else noticed this problem?
Is there any chance it could be related to a weak 12 volt battery (I've noticed the orange dash light on quite frequently lately)?
Am I just an idiot and imagining everything except for the failed remote climate starts?

Suggestions and questions are welcome.

I used to get a failure here and there, but it told me that it failed. It has worked great for me for the last 20 or so times.

I dont see in my app that the seats could be heated. The options are cabin temp, winshield defroster, rear/side window defroster and steering wheel heater.

I have not, but have only used that 1-2x, more as a novelty. They _did_ rev the mobile app recently (on Android at least). Related? Before sending a command, pull down the screen on the app to refresh/"Update" and then try, just in case - maybe forcing a status update will wake it up to take a remote command (total guess)

You are correct. Steering wheel only. But the heated steering wheel won't turn on with a key fob remote start, unfortunately.

The app sucks on the best of days.

Two years ago, my remote start ceased working. It required a trip to the dealership and parts replacement to correct.

I think, maybe, I've solved this mystery.

In looking for the battery preconditioning function of the app (Battery preconditioning via the app?), I found the "subscriptions" summary. I noted that I only had a subscription to the 'basic" package, which does not include remote climate start. That feature is included in the "advanced" package. I assumed the advanced package would cost me a monthly fee, so I clicked on it to find the cost. Turns out it's $0.00, which is exactly the right price for me!!! I "purchased" that subscription and tried the remote climate start...it fired right up.

So, I don't know if I had that subscription before and it expired, or if it just worked with the basic subscription. All I know is my remote climate start worked for about a year, then it didn't work for a few weeks, and now it works again.

UPDATE: it's not working again. :(

It worked twice in a row yesterday after adding the advanced subscription. But it is 0-4 today.

Suggestions welcome...

UPDATE #2: I am now starting to think the remote climate start via the app does actually start the climate control. However, I think it is shutting itself off very shortly after starting. It's supposed to stay on for 10 minutes, correct? But mine seems to come on, then shut back down after only a minute or so.

I know this sounds crazy, but it seems to me that as soon as my phone shuts off, or I get a new notification, the climate control shuts off again. But that can't possibly be true, right???

Not sure how related it may be, but the steering wheel warmer turns itself off after 10-15 minutes while driving. You could turn it on again for another round of 10-15 minutes…

Is the car at the temp you set it when it shuts off? If so I'd say it's working.

Good question. No, it's still cold when it shuts down. So it's not a case of it heating to the desired temperature (75°) and then shutting down. But I'll put a temperature guage on my passenger seat to monitor the temperature inside.

Also, I've now spent time in my garage starting the climate control. It is definitely turning on, then turning itself off within 1-2 minutes. I can't figure out why it's doing that.

I am surprised how inconsistent so many things are in this car.
In addition to this timing issue, on another thread you can see that some cars have their speedometers dead on while others show 1-2 mph more that GPS apps.
There is also the users that have carplay issues, while others dont.
Then you have the problems with the track pad team vs the ones that never had it.

This sounds like what was happening with mine a couple years ago, but IIRC, mine would come on for ~10 secs before shutting down.
Take it in for service.

I'm going in right after Christmas for the latest recall and will have them figure it out for me. I don't suppose you remember any specific problem, part, or terminology I can pass along to them to make sure we get it fixed the first time?

Update in case others with a similar problem find this thread. In addition to my problems with remote climate start, my heater started working only intermittently. My service advisor thought the two issues might be related.

Last week they replaced my PTC heater, which seems to have solved both the heating problem and the remote climate start problem. Both have worked well for the few days since the fix and I'm happy to be warm again (this is a bad time of year in a bad part of the country to have your heater fail)!

I actually had this problem quite a bit last year. Then came an OTA (over the air) update to the ICCU (integrated charging control unit) this autumn.
After installing that update, I never had this problem again.

I just updated the Genesis app today. Because it made me update the app before I could use it again. Never had too much of a problem with the climate start, but now it won't work. Thanks, Genesis, thanks a lot. It also says the door are unlocked, but I can see they're locked. The car (a GV80) is generally fine, but I hate it because the electronics just stink. Not thought out super well, and I had to replace the head unit in the first two months I had the car. So I hate the car. The app does at least tell me the climate start function didn't work. A towering achievement for the electronics engineers...

sorry you are having issues. Just so you and other know my remote start is working very well. I use it at least 2 or 3 times a week.
