  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Proposed Class Action Suit?

I think the interesting part is the word "Proposed." Is this not an active suit? is this not an active "deal?"

Active, yes. Not final until the court rules and lawyers get paid. If you think you can do better on your own you can opt out but I imagine few people do.

I expect you could do a whole lot better if the roof exploded and caused an accident or injuries since they are basically admitting there is a problem by offering a settlement up front. If you sign on to the settlement deal, they have locked you into their terms. At least theoretically. I am not a lawyer :)

I've never got a mail from Hyundai - for anything . :)cautious: they dont even wish me on my birthday or on congratulate me for buying one of their costliest sedan)

Do they send mail to second owners for extending sunroof warranty ? I have a 2015 CPO Hyundai Genesis 3.8 - and i'm the second owner.

I checked the Message Center in myHyundai aswell , and there is nothing there .

I'm the second owner of a 2015 - G80 and I received the letter.

This notice looks like very specific to just the glass breaking .

What about rattles / sunroof stops working suddenly / sunroof motor issues / lubrication issues or all the other problems with the panoramic sunroof being reported .

That would be covered under your warranty, this is strictly meant for the panoramic sunroof imploding.

Glass shattering can be a serious issue. Rattles not so much. You'd have to start your own suit if out of warranty.

I've had four months of calling hyundai motor america following up on my head unit replacement , and they have done nothing .

I doubt in some time when the car is over 4 year old , they will stop warranty repairs all together .

Sunroof rattle is not even on my list yet . I am happy if it only keeps working . My head unit on the other hand is not registering to bluelink so thats not usable.

Haven't seen it but then again, my '12 doesn't have a "panoramic" sunroof, just the standard one.

Seems like a pretty crappy settlement. How much will the resale value of our cars suffer now that they're known for having EXPLODING sunroofs?

They should be paying us upfront for that. Or maybe pay for some sort of additional lamination like tinting?

When I traded two cars with pano roof it made no difference at all. How would you determine what to pay? If it actually made a difference it would affect the owner who traded after 2 years versus the guy that drives it into the ground over 15 years. That would be tied up in the courts forever.

Additional lamination, clear or tinted, may make some sense from a safety point. They should do that at the factory.

Was there a class action lawsuit at the time? Because if there wasn't, that's not a valid comparison. This will significantly raise the visibility of the pano roof issues while also confirming that they're the result of a flawed design (rather than just a few unexplainable flukes).

Suit would have been started but no mailings at that point. As for visibility, that will last for a few months. Aside from the people here, randomly ask 100 car shoppers about a pano roof and 99 will not even know what it is. Six months from now since there is publicity it will probably be 98.

I called the toll free number to check on details, mostly because my lease is ending on my '15 Ultimate and I'm thinking of getting a G70 next. I was told that while this isn't "official" until the judge signs off in mid-August, there is no reason to expect it won't be formalized then. The mid-August date is interesting because the settlement requires your paperwork to be filed by July 25. In my case, if I lease (or buy) a G70 and file the paperwork timely, the settlement fund will send me a $1,000 debit card. The G70 roof is a "wide" sunroof, not panoramic so it qualifies. You don't have to be trading in your car because of the sunroof issue, but if you buy/lease another Hyundai product with a panoramic roof you don't qualify for the rebate. On the other hand, if you sell your Genesis (or at lease end) and buy ANY non-Hyundai vehicle you're eligible for "up to $600" debit card. I assume the amount will be determined by the number of class members filing for that rebate vs. the amount of $$ set aside for it.

I'm looking at it as essentially a $1,000 reduction in the cap cost of my possible new G70 lease and it's money the dealer won't know about so can't load it into the deal. Perfect timing for me! (I've had no sunroof problems to date on my '15. ).

I have a 2013 Hunidai car with the panoramic sunroof . The problem is that my sunroof has not shatter at this moment but if it does down the road.
what going to happen went it does?

Of course no applicable to Canadian Cars.. guess sunroofs don't explode up here lol

From what I'm reading, all owners of a 2015-2016 Genesis will have their sunroof warranties extended to 10/100k.
Those who have already experienced the sunroof shatter can claim repair reimbursements as well as $200 if they first hand experienced the roof shattering on them.
Additionally, those who traded in their car because of this whole ordeal can have a $600-1000 rebate.
Those of us who have had no issues with the roof, appear to have no cash settlement, just the extended warranty.
Hope this warranty applies to Canadians as well?

How do I get added to this list if not too late? I have a 2017 G80 that I’m leasing and just experienced the implosion of the sunroof while driving. I called the local Hyundai dealer and they told me to bring it to an Auto Glass shop. I would think Genesis would warranty this service, since I’m still on my 2nd year of my lease.

I had the car towed, and left with an out of pocket expenses for a rental car. Thought anyone?

Thanks

Just go to this website: Panoramic Sunroof Settlement. You can plug in your VIN to see if your car is covered. There's also an FAQ that should answer your questions.
