  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was checking out the dealer inventories and caught a minor detail on the window sticker posted for a 3.8 HTRAC car:

It says that the car would produce 311 HP on regular gas. I thought the 311 HP was only possible with premium and regular gas would actually lower the 311 HP figure.

I am almost wondering if the reason for Hyundai to lower the HP figure from Gen 1 is to calculate the output on regular gas? Could the max output be still 333 HP?

According to the manual (page F-7), that only applies to the 5.0.

The V6 only runs on regular gas. The engine was retuned from the previous generation to increase the low end torque.

If I lived in Boulder, I would try mid-grade or premium and see how the engine does, even for the V6. Octane levels in CO are at least 2 lower than at sea level, but a modern sophisticated engine can adjust for that without lowering octane. For example, in CO regular is 85 octane which is correct for a old carburetor, but probably not optimal for Direct Injection engine run by a computer.

I did a little bit more research and v6 seems to generate 311 HP on regular gas and V8 needs premium for 420 HP as StarPower mentioned:

https://www.hyundaiusa.com/genesis/specifications.aspx

See the ** footnote next to the 420 HP number.

So it is established then that the V6 generates 311 HP on regular but the question is if it produces more than 311 HP when using higher grade gas?

I started with premium with my 3.8 for a few fill ups and then tried regular. I don't notice a difference and would use premium if I did.
