If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have had mine for a week now and I noticed something the first time I turned on the audio system. I will try to put this in terms that are easy to understand. There does not seem to be much bottom or base in this system. I did try the surrond and with a movie it seemed to have good low end but with the XM or cd it seems to me that there is not a lot of low end. Now I am not a thumper guy as I am 60 years old but I do like some low end to my music. I do not see a lot of difference in EQ settings when using the presets. If I manually do the eq it is some better. Also my volum level is around 7 to 15 so it is not pushing the system. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed this? Is there a way to test the Sub? I was told buy the service manager that there had been a factory notice on the sub woffer amp and that they had to be replaced on all the new ones they got and in fact it had been done on mine befor delivery. I sure hope someone can help me here. I usually have a good ear but there is something missing here or I am loosing it.
Thanks all.

In your write up you said you tested the system with a movie, which would indicate you have the tech package. Then you said your dealer told you he replaced your amp, which was a TSB item on non-tech package cars. [the base Lexicon system] Someone is confused here:(

Assuming you have the tech package, make sure you set the sound for each system. Treble, Bass, etc. are set to neutral for all systems. Each system has to be set separately.[AUX, DVD, AM/FM, XM] I have no problems with Bass, at all. Or the sub.

Also, check out this thread:

Yes I have the tech package, I was just going on what the service manager said after I had made the comment that I did about not much low end. I was aware that the tone settings are seperate on different modes. The movie, which was "I am Leggend" has a lot of good sound and the base was excellent so I assume the amp is working . But regardless of which XM I listen to I am lacking low end for my taste. I have tried manual settings but not with the bass set to full up. I will try that , and I also see that I am not the first to notice this. I have always had good sound systems in my cars and this is the first time I have ever noticed the lack of low end. Love the car but I do not feel the Lexicon system is all it is pumped up to be. Works good as a surrond system but at this point that is of no use as you can't watch a movie and drive. Not for me to watch but for the ridder. There is a lack of user information on this entire Nav and audio system. The HD is another issue that needs to be addressed. I am a P.hD in Computer Science and I am going to spend some time getting to know the system in this car and see if we can't get some real answers to many of the I do not know's we seem to have. And as far as it being a big expense to upgrade the Nav system that also is going to be taken care of. I will keep you all up to date on my work and pass along any data I gleem . Thanks for a quick answer to my basic question.

Hi Gary. I hope I can offer some information for you. I seem to have missed this thread amongst the others.

In response to " a lack of forthcoming information about the technical workings of the system " - I agree. It's not documented ... as a fellow educator (and educatee, hehe) of the Computer Science & Information Tech field (I have a AS and BS in Computer Science), we have a term, which you're likely familiar with called RTFM (or read the frigigin manual)... It seems that's what Hyundai wants us to do. And once we do that... let it be. And quit asking questions.

In response to the 'HD' you speak of. I assume the hard drive. I was actually taken back, by the strange implementation of the hard drive. I'm told, and read, that it's 40gb. That's an incredible amount of space for only navigation data (and maybe the DIS software). The average navigation dvd holds around 8gb. Well that leaves 30 some odd gb free. I was under the impression we could "rip" our cds to the drive, like a juke box , similar to other manufacturers (like VW , Mitsibushi)...

To help you out with your acoustics issues, and low end (or lack there of, rather). I'm sure you know neither HD Radio or XM radio are the best for broadcasting full range spectrum. Some signal is compromised along the lines. There is, admittedly a lack of audio quality on the Lexicon system from XM radio in the genesis. And I can assure you. If you were to listen to the same XM channel, in another car (with a "top notch/hi-fi/high end sound system") that is integrated (not a dinky lil add on with an fm transmitter or aux 3.5mm line input).. you'll likely notice better quality.

The reasoning behind this is the sound processing technology & software used in the Lexicon amplifier. It's certainly not fair to any of us. However, on digital signals (such as CDs or DVDs [movies or audio discs]), the processing is more than accurate.

In reference to your point about watching a movie while driving: I'm sure, as adults in America, we understand the dangers of having any distractions while driving, especially movies. While not getting on the "government politics" of it. lol.. I tend to agree with the present move not to enable it. As a "kiss and make up move" they should've offered a rear seat system for us. To allow people (such as children) in the back seats to watch a dvd.

Thanks for the info and your thoughts. I guess I will just be patient and do more looking untill I find full information on the Hard Drive. I also do agree with you about the movie . Even a rear display tied into the head unit would be great and have made a good option. I must say I do love the car and I have had the opertunity to drive all of the new models I was interested in and the Genisis won my heart. If I had to say what sold me it would be the seats , they have to be the most comfortable I have ever sat in.
Gary

Specifically, about the hard drive, what you like to know?

The seats are the most comfy I've ever sat in ,,, for a sedan.. Suv: in my opinion, acura MDX. lol. but to each his own.

Considering that Corsair has a 64GIG flash drive 40gigs is well insufficient!

I actually think the XM and HD radio functions of the Lexicon system sound very good. They are obviously of a lower bitrate and sampling frequency than red book CD audio or DVD-audio discs, but compared to standard analogue FM or even MP3s I hear them to be far superior. I've heard XM on some home systems that were very well designed and didn't hear any significant differences from the Lexicon.

I do wish the USB input could handle a wider variety of file formats, like FLAC or OGG or WAV. I know this could be done, just a matter of updating the firmware of the system. If I was working for the Genesis program, I would position the car as the end-all tech powerhouse and issue regular updates to the system, to be applied via USB, to present new features, upgrades, etc. Heck I would even PAY for these things if they were done properly. Hyundai may be missing out on a potential revenue stream here. If someone on this board has the capability to make modifications to the software, I'm in big time! I would love to be able to customize the interface or add features.

I really love this car.

You are right one the money, if Hyundai was to allow access to the software for customization or changes, they could build loyalty to the Genesis brand on a scale probable never seen before.

Even if there was enough info out there to "jail break" the system for those that want too it would be a great start.
