  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

One push of the driver's door button opens only that door. A second push within 4 seconds opens all doors. The owner's manual says a Hyundai dealer can change the default setting so all doors open with a single push. Does anyone know how to do this or must I go to the dealer?

Or two pushes on the key fob unlocks all doors...and you don't have to take your hands out of your jacket pocket to do it!

I've gotten pretty good at it. I do it via 'braile' (is that spelled right?) I've learned the position of the 4 (count um) buttons. The only time the fob comes out of my pants is when I change pants!

Yeah, it's handy that way.

The dealer told me that you need to insert it in the dash slot from time to time because it recharges it??? Anyone know if this is true?

When I first heard about this feature, the Smart Key, I thought it was one of those useless frills. Now, I couldn't do without it. What a convenience to never have to remove the key from your pocket and be able to unlock and lock the doors and start and stop the motor,. I'm trying to remember if I felt the same way when I got my first car with automatic windows.

The only reason to put the fob into the dash port is when the fob runs OUT of battery. Then, you can start your car in an emergency. Other than that, you get new batteries when your fob runs out.

This is incorrect. The battery CANNOT be charged in the dash port. If the batteries run out then they need to be replaced.

blasterguam, bigtrace's statement is true. He does not claim that the battery in the fob can be charged, only that when the fob battery dies, you must insert the fob into the port in order to start the vehicle.

Thanks for the correction. I misunderstood, and stand corrected.

I do understand that when the battery dies the proximity code is not transmitted from the fob and the RFID sensor must be right next to the sensor (inserted into the key port) for it to work.

Sorry Bigtrace - I misunderstood.

I mentioned this on a different thread. Once I could not open the door by pushing the button on the door, I had to push the button on the key. Once I was in the car I could not start the car. I received a visual message to insert the key in the dash before it would start. I did not get a new battery and it has not happened again in a couple of weeks (I think it has been that long).

I recently had a situation that I failed to press the fob key twice and I tried to open the passenger door. It seemed to go into safe mode since I could not open the passenger door until I got in the driver side and hit the unlock button (fob and door button did not work). It would seem that I triggered a safty protocal that froze me out for awhile. Afterwards I thought that all I probably needed to do was lock it and start over.

Seemed that way to me. There do not appear to be any contact points for charging.

So much for dealer training!

Well, regardless if this is true or not... there are lots of device that can be charged without the old fashion "metal" contact point. For example, cordless phone, sonic care tooth brush and etc... :D;)

Is Hyundai's smart key like other "keyless go". You approach the door and push a button or pull the handle, it will autoly unlock it for you? My BMW works this way and I never need to press any button on the key fob. ???

You unlock/lock the doors by pressing the small black button in the front door handles when the key is in the vincinity. Pressing it twice within 4s will release all doors. The trunk has a seperate button which works similarly.

The biggest difference to the systems implemented by all the other manufacturers is the lack of tie-in to the memory settings. You can not assign a smart key to a specific memory setting but have to press the button inside the car if you need to switch.

Cheers

Thomas

Interestingly, with the fob in the pocket, pressing the black button on the PASSENGER door is smart enough to unlock all 4 doors! Makes perfect sense if you think about it.

Is there a primary and secondary smart key for the Genesis? On my old car, the seat positions were memorized by each separate key fob. So when I unlocked the car with my fob the seats would move to my position, and the same with my wife's fob. Or are both smart keys the same? Is the Genesis intelligent enough to recognize each smart key with different seating positions?

Thanks!
