  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Question re: Unlocking / Smart Key

Is there a primary and secondary smart key for the Genesis? On my old car, the seat positions were memorized by each separate key fob. So when I unlocked the car with my fob the seats would move to my position, and the same with my wife's fob. Or are both smart keys the same? Is the Genesis intelligent enough to recognize each smart key with different seating positions?

Thanks!

Answer is post #18. Not as inteligent.

Although most cars are in this segments are like that. Also most cars you can set to just unlock the driver door or unlock all 4 door at the same time. Maybe next year model they will address this.

Thanks - I obviously missed #18. Thanks for the clarification.

Resurrecting an old thread here. Is it really necessary to go to the dealer to change the unlock behavior? The owner's manual says you can change it by pressing and holding the lock and unlock buttons on the keyfob simultaneously for 4 seconds, but I tried that and it doesn't seem to work (I have 2010 with Tech package).

I'd like to change it so one press unlocks all doors, but it's not really worth making a trip to the dealer for. Can this be change from the DIS service menu that I've seen mentioned in other threads?

The DIS has what appears to be the desired function:
Press the INFO button on the main DIS input panel.
Select "System Settings" and press the DIS knob ("enter")
Select "Auto Door Unlock" and press the DIS knob
Select "Drivers Door"

The owners manual (page 272) says selecting this option "Doors will be unlocked when the driver's door is unlocked."

Except I just tried this on my 2009 V8/Tech and it didn't appear to do anything. With all doors locked it still took two pushes of the driver's door outside black button to unlock the other doors. Locking/unlocking the driver door from inside the car didn't affect the other doors either. ??

I lock the doors and set the alarm with the black button on the driver's door handle. I press/"beep" and the doors are locked. Press and second time and I get two "beeps" indicating the alarm is activated. I understand that you cannot activate the alarm using the key fob.

Ron:rolleyes:

Mike C - The setting under "Car Settings" in the DIS control how/if the car automatically locks and unlocks the doors when you start/stop driving, from what I can tell it has nothing to do with the behavior of the external lock buttons or keyfobs.

Ron - You sure about that? On my car, one beep means car is locked, two beeps means unlocked (though initially only the driver's door, a second press is required to unlock the other doors, which is what I'm complaining about).

When I hear the two beeps after the single beep I can't get into the car. I believe I actually read it in the manual. Does anyone actually read the manual? I have tried for all sorts of things but have trouble getting the answers I need.

That's odd. I just double checked. With all doors closed, press the doorhandle button results in one beep and all doors being locked. Pressing it again results in two beeps and the driver's door unlocking.

I double checked the user's manual, and it seems to agree with this. It says to arm the alarm, all you do is use the keyfob or exterior doorhandle button to lock the car (assuming all doors are closed).

And so, I just went out and checked the user's manual and the function of the black button on the handle. You are absolutely correct. For the past couple of months I have been wandering away from my car with the driver's door open. Good grief!:( I'm glad I put my misinformation forward on this thread. I have no idea NOW where I came on that little bit of bad news.

Thanks, JKohn,

Ron;)

Whew! That's for sure!!!!

Ron

Don't they automatically lock themselves after a few minutes if the door remains unopened after unlocking?
Either way, it's good that you now know about it! :)

Dan

You're right, Dan. If you open the driver's door inadvertently as I have been doing, it re-locks after several seconds, less than a minute.

I had a spill in the trunk recently as I opened the lid. I quickly threw down my keys and got my paper towel roll mopping up the liner. Disaster in some cars, I threw the trunk lid down.... BUT, it wouldn't lock with the key fob inside the trunk. I'll bet you all have stories about laying your keys down in the trunk and locking them in.

I'm surprised that the trunk unlocks if the keys inside. I haven't tried it on the Genesis.

I had this one time when I had my Vette, I went to a driving range, put the key inside the bag.
As I was leaving I opened the hatch(thinking that the key was inside my pocket), put the golf bag inside and shut the hatch!
Obviously, the door didn't open... $hit!!!!
Imagine that stupid look on my face.

Dan
