  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Questions about 1st Genesis purchase

Dealer says there is a 5/60,000 bumper to bumper warranty still left on the vehicle. So now, it seems like an extended warranty makes less sense. I'd be paying $1,600 to cover 40,000 miles. Am I thinking of this correctly?
HYundai calls it bumper-to-bumper, but it is not, since there are exclusions. The audio and other electonic (Nav, Bluetooth, etc) systems only have a 36 month / 36K mile warranty.

Wow. That's completely against what the sales guy said. I asked about the iPhone interface and he said it was covered if it or the stereo broke down for 5/60,000. Hmmmmm.....

Does it make a difference if the car is certified?

Giving a CPO a better warranty than a brand new car wouldn't make much sense. My guess is, you've run into what many of us on the forum are quite familiar with - dealer incompetence.

One way around that - ask him to put that in writing and make sure it states that it's an essential term of the purchase. My guess is, he'll say "OK" then go and actually research the unqualified answer he already gave you and then come back and regretfully inform you that he was mistaken.

This is just like my salesman telling me the '12s came with 3G wireless hotspots.

If you want to know about the Hyundai manufacturer warranty, I would suggest you go to the Hyundai website and see for yourself (hint: audio, Nav, video, etc only covered up to 36K miles / 36 months). It is the same for all Hyundai vehicles sold in the US. If the dealer is offering some other kind of warranty, you need to get it in writing.

Also, in case you don't know, all contracts for more than $500 must be writing, and that includes all terms, conditions, and warranties. Oral statements and IM’s are unenforceable. This is according to the Uniform Commercial Code adopted by 49 states (Louisiana has some kind of French law thing governing contract law).

Thanks for all the help everyone. I really do appreciate it. Picking it up on Saturday am. Not going to get the HPP. Lookin forward to tinting, rebadging, etc!

Dealers are incompetent. Educate yourself, never accept anything they say as fact.

Why is it that with auto dealers and the government, you don't have to know $#!& about your job and you stay employed?
What? Auto dealers (really car salesman) are experts in getting you to buy a car from them and getting you to part with as much money as possible in the transaction. They will say anything to accomplish that. I don't understand why you think they don't know what they are doing (pardon the double negative).

Very good point. Perhaps I'm overthinking it...
